View Full Version : Template linking questions

Okay...I was curious and had a question. Now, from what I've noticed...if I want an image with different links depending on where you click...it has to be .png right? (I've noticed that's usually what it is....) Now my question is this;
A`Nub`is's (I hope I spelled that correctly >.>) sig image, http://monte.d2nsa.de//HoN/Suggestions/New_Signature.jpg has images. But instead of the pics being the links, he has text.
Now my question is this; Is there any way I can make it so I use the template, but the images themselves are the link? I've seen it done with other images, not here....but other places...the problem, though, is that usually it's apart of a sig image service (like XFire Plus, IIRC...) So...
1. How would I go about making specific parts of a larger image (like I said, an image section within a bigger image) link to a specific thing...
2. Would that image work if it were just hosted on PB, or would it needed to be hosted somewhere specific?

If this is the wrong board, sorry...Just tryin to figure this out cause I've had this idea of using it as my way of linking stuff for awhile now...

not possible

And why not? Saying 'not possible' doesn't exactly explain, nor does it give you credit.
I've clicked on & seen plenty of, and even used once or twice, images where depending on the x or y at which u click on an image, it links to something different. Why would I not be able to do it here? The character limit? My lack of a website with which to 'host' the image or w/e itself? Explanations are needed to give your answer credence.

It is not possible due to general forum limitations. It only allows certain coding.
You can do it for a website though.

Ah, that requires HTML then, I suppose?

Ah, that requires HTML then, I suppose?
That, and Flash media can do it as well.

Really? Didn't seem like there was ever any flash media involved in any of the ones I'VE clicked on, but I suppose it makes sense...

Oh, I meant it is possible with Flash as well. Separately that is.

It is also possible with both obviously.

Yes, it is possible, but it will require some work.

All the 'BBcode' to create links in your sig (like the [url] and tags) are just html when displayed on a webpage. Some explanation of hyperlinks:

A hyperlink in html is an 'anchor tag' wrapped around some text. It has an opening and closing part:

<a> text goes here </a>Now to actually make the anchor do something, we add a target 'Hypertext REFerence' (href) to it:

<a href="http://www.google.com">google!</a>The equivalent in BBcode used on this forum is the [url] tag:

google! (http://www.google.com)So this [url] has to be wrapped around something (text or an image, like you use in your sig) to make it link somewhere.

So you can put an image inside your [url] tag that links somewhere, but your can't split this up (with only using BBcode). The only solution is to cut your image up - one image for every specific part. Each part of the image should be wrapped in it's own [url] tag like this:

[img]http://foo.com/myhonlogbook.gif (http://foo.com/mylogbook.html)
http://foo.com/anubis.gif (http://foo.com/anubis.html)
http://foo.com/chaosmage.gif (http://foo.com/chaosmage.html)
etc..
If you paste the tags after eachother without spaces or newlines, it will look like one complete image:

1.gif2.gif3.gif

can you show me an example of something like what you're trying to explain?
Just in case, what I mean is...for example;
Nub`is' image? I want ONLY the space where the 'TL;DR' Book image to link to one thread, and the picture of Anubis to link to a different thread. Could you do that in bbcode and/or in this forum's sig limits?

Minimized

I think the number of pictures in a sig is limited to 1 or tops 2...
If they weren't, you could edit the template (adding your own images and stuff), crop it up into 20 boxes (2 rows, 10 columns), and then line them all up like Asator said, giving them individual links (or no links if the box is empty). If that makes sense.

Well, I guess that is possible as well, Asator (http://forums.heroesofnewerth.com/member.php?u=89891).

EontheWolf (http://forums.heroesofnewerth.com/member.php?u=2507), I'll explain. You know it is possible to tag a weblink to a single image right?
What Asator is suggesting is that you tag multiple images. Each image comprises of a portion of the larger picture.

Example: You tag small images of an eye, a nose, lips. The overall image makes up a face. You can click each small image for a different link.

Forum limits you to only one image however, as Lowboll (http://forums.heroesofnewerth.com/member.php?u=164042) mentioned. So it is still not possible.

Yeah. That's one way. But a character limit would prevent that. What I meant is those images where u click on say....x=124,y=74 and it would send u to wikipedia.org/wiki/pwned , and prizels x=1,y=1 through x=125,y=125 would all send it there....as an example of an image that had multiple links...and then x=126,y=126 through x=200,y=200 would be say.....heroesofnewerth.com
Get what Im saying? THAT is what I was asking if it were possible. I'm sure it is, I just dont know any way to do it without having to rely on a site & constrained link & character limits (IE i dunno how to do it beyond using a website service or doing what Asator said, and both of which are probably unlikely here)
