I spoke to Nome about this, as it was his hero.
Basically, it was scrapped because it had too many original concepts in one hero. When you have a hero with that many potential abilities, they simply become too versatile and the development team wants to avoid that in the future.
The good news is that many of the concepts that existed in Druid have been retained on other heroes in the pipeline!
