View Full Version : [Non -EM] SotM on Devourer?
Ubuntu

Is this a good idea?
Will this allow my combo to remain valuable late game?
I usually go for:
Shaman's Headress
Steamboots
Bracers x2
Behmoths
Daemonic Armour (Rare that I'll get this far)
Would it be better to get SotM then Behmoths?
I'm thinking that it allow my combo to remain useful late game, especially because it heals me.
A late game fight could go like this: Hook, turn on gases, auto attack them until I'm at about 3/4 - 1/2 hp. Then pop my ulti on them, then chase with gases and rehook if necessary?
Or I am I better off just sticking with tank items and being an initiator.
Is this a good idea?

I would say it completely depends on the situation. If you are needed to be a tank (Really Dev's endgame role regardless) get Heart. If you ganked well and are still roaming get SotM. Staff really is almost core though, it's an incredible item for him
Few notes on other items as well;
Bottle: I assume you get one but didn't note it on your build?
Barrier Idol: Vs Magic Heavy Teams
Frost Field Plate: This can be better then Demonic in a lot of situations (Especially vs melee carries lacking a blink. Also it gives you a lot more mana, which is awesome because bottle loses.
Mock of Brilliance: The tank DPS item. This synergies well with Rot.

SotM is good before behemoths in my opinion, not only will it heal you ALOT but it also gives your ulti a lot of damage for late game

SotM is definately a solid pick for Devourer.

Also helps with mana which I often struggle with when I play him.

It gives him HP, mana and the parts are cheap, so I don't see why not.

You probably won't be able to farm too much with Devourer, so don't expect to get more than 2 high-tier items every game.
It really depends on what you need at the moment, but Behemoth's Heart is generally a good choice as the next luxury item. If you feel like you're lacking armor, get a Platemail first.

Behemoth's is the best item to follow up Staff of the Master. Since staff allows his ultimate to scale with strength, a high strength item like Behemoth's is a no brainer.
After Behemoth's + Staff, the game should be over. If it's drawing out though, I would recommend Frostfield plate if you're having mana issues, or Mock if you're having trouble doing damage. Also a good item would be insanitarius, as you can activate that before you ultimate to boost your strength another 25 points.

At level 18 with SotM you will have a bit more than 2100 HP and around 6 Armor. That means you'll have something around 2800 EHP. EHP is the short for Effective Hit Points, which is a way to show ur hit points including your armor. It is the measure of your HP agains physical attacks. I considered 18 since it's by this point, or later, that you'll have money to buy an expensive item like Behemoth's or Demonic.
At this point I don't like buying Mock, since its a bit late to fulfill its hole potential. I don't like also Frostfield since you will already have your mana issues almost fixed. So the doubt wouid be Behemoth's or Demonic's. Both with the objective of increasing your survivability.
Behemoth's costs 5500 gold and increases your HP by around 1000. Your EHP would be, then, around 4200. So its an increase of 1400 for 5,5k gold, or 0,25 EHP per gold.
Demonic costs 5550 and increases your armor by 15. That would increase your EHP to 4746. Its an increase of 0,35 EHP per gold.
Concluding, if you are having trouble with spells, then you should go for pure HP first, then for armor. Go for Behemoth's Heart. On the other hand, if you receive the most damage through attacks, then you should get Demonic Breastplate first.
Edit: On the other hand, as Tripwyr pointed, Behemoth's has excellent sinergy with your ult + SotM. However, if your problem is durability, my advice goes best =/

Just as an FYI, Shiva's can be better defense then Demonic. It's 15 armor with a -25% IAS aura, along with a usable slow. It's also 4700 opposed to 5500.

In terms of survivabilty yes. But I discarded Shiva's (or Frostfield) since Devourer won't benefit from one of its main effects, which is increasing it's INT. Mana pool issues are already kinda fixed with SotM and bottle.
I think the +5 and -5 armor auras, plus 15 IAS aura are more than enough to balance the -25 IAS aura (note that its not in percentage) and slow/small nuke + 800 gold. Its just an opinion, though, and the -25 IAS will provide Devourer with even better durability.
So you are right, it's just that I prefer the auras. Not a mathematical fact, but just a personal evaluation. Ty anyways.

Heridshire is right. If your sole requirement is survivability, go for Daemonic. However, this will rarely be the case. Don't forget, it isn't as simple as just calculating EHP. The following conditions also apply:
1. Almost every hero has a spell. Even if they primarily deal physical damage, they usually have a spell for around 300 damage. Take for example Hammerstorm; he deals huge physical damage, but still has a magical stun for 300 damage.
2. Don't forget that staff makes your ultimate heal. Behemoth's Heart adds to this heal. Not much, but it does.

Difference between behemoths heart and demonic breastplate is that behemoth heart regens a lot more while you are decaying away. This makes the EHP of heart a lot higher then DB.
I think SotM is buyable on definitely buyable on devourer.

By this logic you should just stack 6 platemails
couirer
bottle
flying couirer
boots
wards
steamboots
wards
wards
wards
wards
wards
wards
wards
If you get spare money, get a barrier idol if its needed. But you should never take farm from your carry.
If the enemy team manages to get some really crazy hero, consider blink to just disable him during teamfights before you die

I hope the above post is a joke, because it is probably the worst advice I have ever seen.
Devourer is not a support hero. Someone like demented shaman or nymphora should be buying wards, Devourer is actually item dependent.

SOTM dominates. I got pretty fed/farmed yesterday and had upwards of 150 STR with SOTM. I took a Pest to 35% with rot + ult only at level 24 :)
Devourer is really not very item dependant.
With a flying courier and bottle he has all the HP/mana reg he need. After that he just go hook people.

Devourer gets such a major buff from SotM I'd say it's a staple item, and needs to be gotten asap!
