View Full Version : Legionnaire and PK
I've seen since a few games a lot of players doing this:
- Picking Legio
- Calling jungle
- Staying lane until lvl3
- farming BLhelmet
- Farming boots
- Maybe, if im on a lucky day, this guy will get PK by 30min. Sometimes they just not even get PK and get tanky (more expensive) items.
Why these guys dont rush PK? What i learned by reading, playing and asking is:
- Callling jungle
- Go straight to jungle, making lvl3 in lane is a disvantage for my solo TM
- farm lifetube
- farm PK
With this plan i can start ganking before 20min of game.
So, the question is: Am I playing legio the wrong way? or is just that I (several times) played with these really bad guys?

only real baddies would stay in lane till lvl 3 in a random team.
so it's kinda logical that they skip pk.

helm / marcher / pk is possible within 15 minutes (if u get easy creeps in the jungle)
but normally it should be within 20 minutes if u stack well and also go for ancients.
Unless you got killed during jungling phase, or when your laning partner called for help
and you tried to help (but got no kills and wasted time).
helm / def boots / pk / shaman / up boots / barber armor / beheheart /
That's my point zOle, why would you build him like that? Getting helm, boots and pk takes 5600 gold, farming at constant 250 GPM you will get those items by 24min of game, assuming that you didnt get ganked, and that your teammates can handle the 4vs5.
Building as i do, you can get lifetube, portal and simple boots spending 3100 gold, at 250GPM means that you're ganking at 13min.
See the difference?
finishing helm before pk is situational, but i usually like to

- Callling jungle
- Go straight to jungle, double stack yellow, hit lvl 2
- gank lane, make firstblood
- farm lifetube
- farm PK

The problem - as I see it - is, that a lot of people still seem to prefer maxing out Whirling Blade instead of Charge, crippling their Legio early on.

if u go lifetube only u will have problems with stacks and ur pk will ultimately get somewhat delayed anyway. and with pk and lifetube at 18 minute mark ur no more than a squishy tank. Get hotbl to stay in the fight post PK and to increase farm. np

Or max out Charge first so you can gank with Charge-Taunt shiftqueues
I still dont get it. I have no problems farming, neither stacking w/o the hotbl, and rushing pk is really useful for early ganks, where there's no actually too much dmg incoming and the idea isnot engaging against a complete team, but ganks that helps my carry farming. I usually double stack the yellow, and double stack for pulling the lane.
New question: "The problem - as I see it - is, that a lot of people still seem to prefer maxing out Whirling Blade instead of Charge" i do this, why is it bad? Charge isnt that great, a stun or even getting b fast behind tower is enough to counter it.

Charge is your best jungle ability, and is best used verses triple stacked camps. Lego's whirling blade only goes up by 25 dmg per level, which I think may be the smallest scaling ability in the game, and thus should be maxed out last.
To go back to your question, you need to look at how the charge interacts with your whirling blade, and with your hp. Having the creeps attack 50% faster means more procs from your whirling blades, which equals more damage. The 50% less damage means two things, one you take less damage (duh), second the creeps that used to do more damage that you could block, now do less than your blocked damage, essentially giving you a chance to kill a triple stacked camp with minimal damage. And once you have your helm, you have a chance to kill it with 0 damage.
Also, your charge is instant damage and a dependable damage. Which is always preferable in team fights, than a luck base damage source.
And finally just as extra info, be careful on who you charge. Charging a hero that has a lot of proc based items, may inflict more harm than good.

hotbl, shroud, sols bulwark, post haste, bottle.
lategame split up hotbl and make behe heart + nullstone if needed out of the components, build bulwark into breastplate and get riftshards lvl 4 as last item
great explaination there. defnitly this forum need some sort of karma/fame mod ;)
After i posted i started checking on guides that maxed Charge and i found basically what you explained here. I must say that my "style" of jungle is more like in old DotA where Terrify was useless to jungle.
Im gonna give a try on this skill/item build. thank you guys.

Well there is you problem. You just need 1 or 2 to blades then max charge. The charge has received some nice buffs over the last few months. Some people dont even get pkey since the charge is so good now. Pkey is still needed for team fights but for ganks an early maxed charge will get kills easily.
yea, i did tried jungling in this way. I must say i had a happy surprise when about at 18min i got HOTBL, normal boots and Pk in 3 games in a row.
Defnitly maxing Charge makes jungling a lot faster than maxing blades.
Anyway, I still think that PK is a core item for Legio, and you cant past the 30min time line without it.
Thank you guys.

I guess Elementusers guide has it all covered but:
1) To farm properly in jungle you need to stack spots. You can kill a triple stack faster than a single camp.
2) You can (and should) ALWAYS gank your lane. As often as possible (by possible I mean you have a realistical chance of getting a kill).

I max taunt/charge fist (depends)
get ult and choose stats over rank 2 in counter helix
and the thing you arent thinking of OP
is that the reason why legi needs to farm for 24 mins just to be useful
is why hes a bad hero :/

In my opinion, there are several heroes that need to have a relatively large farm to be utilised efficiently. But Lego can be an effective ganker early/mid game even before he gets his pk. But then again, if you're maxing taunt, I can't see that working out all that well.
i had this game today. picked legio (it was a public game), called jungle, started stacking and doing my stuff. Swiftblade gone to bot lane (legion) and starts the game.
After 6 or 7 mins of game, instead calling for pull he took the "pulling neutrals", after he got ganked, even warning him about enemies in our jungle he periodicaly took neutral making my farming way too slow.
By the end game i was like 9-6 and this SB was 4-11. What im trying to say is that how important can be satcking and killing properly the neutral to max out the gold incoming.
@[E]ElementUser yours is among the most complete guides i've read on this subject, good work ;) i've read it when i started my research on this.

Ganging asap can be really nice in working teams which actually help you. But most people go jungle becouse they want to be somewhat selfsufficient. Getting complet HotBL and boots before starting to gang actualy gives you pretty nice chance to survive/solo kill if something goes wrong.
Getting PK also depends on w/e your team has another initiator. If my team has like kraken/pharao i will just get bulwark first to help demolishing some towers.
But in higher games early pk is prolly better becouse it would actually net you kills yeah

Lifetube, red boots, PK, finish boots into ghostmarchers and then Bulwark and Shieldbreaker lvl3. You will be oneshotting scrubs in no time.

Because they're selfish, misguided a-holes
And especially with legio it's a real WTF
