I really enjoy playing NH and wish to find out if people play him in scrims :)

Never played competitive or anything, but pretty sure he isn't. Other then his cloud he has nothing to contribute to the team.

0_o some clans back in dota used to use sa, hes not a bad character just hes underpowered compared to other possible picks.

Most of his advantages over other carries can be negated if the enemy team is composed of experienced players. He's a bit subpar.

He can be still be quite alright in competitive play - well SA was in DotA.
His perm invis allows him to track down enemy heros who are neuting or changing lanes and allow his team to get in place for a gank.
Also end game with a nice farm he can still reduce the opposition to tears..

The only thing he's good for is killstealing from more important carries.

He's not a very strong or often-used pick but he can still be useful, especially with the right combo. His cloud is his single best skill.
Pharaoh wall + Silence Cloud = 5 seconds of opponents who can do nothing but sit behind mummies, crying softly to themselves as your team kills them.
To a lesser extent, tempest and kraken can also make good use of his cloud with their ults.
Problem is, except for cloud, he's pretty worthless in a team fight until he's finished with 10k+ worth of items. Most critical team fights early and mid game will be him putting up cloud then running away before he finishes dying.

He could be picked depending on what lineup you are facing. If you are up agains't heroes who have skills to detect invis players he is pure **** ;)

Night Hound is an effective carry if you last pick him to avoid a Pestilence counter pick and if the other team has several "paper heroes". Night Hound can easily 3 shot heroes like Glacius, Demented Shaman, Pyro, etc and his cloud makes him effective in team fights. We used him in a couple rounds of Avan's tourney and won with him but we haven't used him recently.

Nighthound cant 3 hit a pyro or demented shaman.... maybe a glacius. The reason is that nighthound has such a bad farm that by the time he does any damage these heroes already have sac stone, SoTM, etc. And are actually not easy to kill.

You obviously have never played NH properly if you can't do any DPS with him.

The only good thing he had lately in dota is his small hitbox, but in hon? pure crap if u pick the right heroes against him ;/

I'm seeing a lot of garbage such as "The only thing he's good for is killstealing from more important carries." which doesn't address the point at all. I think what we should be focusing on is how the NH could be a potentially devastating or gameturning character for his team, or to the opposing team. I think there was a good point made about tracking down the opposing forest farm, I think that you could potential exploit that with some wards... also, if he's chosen last, your opponents really have no choice other than to gem, or ward, in which case you can either gem yourself against the wards and they've wasted gold, or you can single out the gemmed character.
Either way, I'd like to see some more intellectual brainstorming and less garbage.

He isnt a viable pick at this point IMO, he does have smoke which is nice, but hes just not worth a pick in most competitive lineups, too many good counters/better picks
I seem to have 3/4 of finished writing an insanely detailed guide to NH.
Check it out and decide for yourself...

He's a great carry. Especially mid game if he gets farmed and maybe even late game depending on the circumstances. If he doenst get focussed right away by the other team late game. Expect your ints to be dead almost instantly. Cloud + backstab x 10 = x_X

Have you ever played a competitive game? If you have SA, there shouldn't be 'more important carries' mr. EM player

NH has horrible animations compared to SA, so no he's not viable.

Smoke and Backstab got shat on by IceFrog after ONE version where he was viable, even though Slar/Bounty were common counterpicks.

Situationally viable. People seem to think that he actually depends on invis as an escape mechanism, protip: he doesn't. It's for intelligence gathering.
The unfortunate reality is though the only situation where he's viable is if scout is banned and pesti not on enemy team. Scout is basically a better version of him at the moment and even then scout's not exactly high tier.
As the metagame expands though (and when they decide to you know, not make scout and nighthound almost completely redundant heroes) and more heroes become available he will become more appealing. Cloud is EXTREMELY powerful if you can keep someone in it, as was mentioned earlier it's very good combined with clockwerk especially, as he can cloud on the barriers and then leap in to help him rape his target, who will be completely unable to fight back between the miss chance, the ministuns, and the silence.

iono its not that hes bad, it's that heroes like sand wraith, tDL, madman and magebane exist.
Heroes that I refer to as super-carries for a reason.
