I find the Eldar parasite works nicely instead of Whispering helm it's toggle ability is nice for a burst of attack speed and in combination with the lifesteal it can keep you admirably alive against melee heroes. you just need to watch out if you hitting a nuke caster like Pyro or something because 20% more dmg from his spells is borderline suicide
The magebane is by far the hardest hero in the game to kill. The enemy team has to be practically all stuns. He can Blink away from puppet masters hold, Glacius' freeze, he jumps over Behemoths line area block. jumps through trees and up cliffs. It's almost inexcusable to die with this hero. Theres also no one better at chasing into a base to get that last hit and escaping alive then him.

had a magebane jump away from me and get stuck in the trees so i aoe nuked him while he could not move. Almost as funny as the time i used puppet masters ult died and watched the person i put it on attack the puppet until he died and i got credit for the kill.

He's still a pretty fragile melee hero and silencing him makes him very vulnerable. So any gank involving blood hunter, defiler, anyone with a hellflower, etc. combined with a stun/disable will be very deadly. Not to mention that blink is also his initiating tool, so disabling and focusing him immediately after he blinks into a team battle is effective.

Meh, guides are good, but I don't really feel like writing one, i'd rather play.
I'll fix a lot of the stuff here soon-ish. Maybe make it a lot longer.

In that order. Stun lock who ever you want for an easy kill.
Now I'm sure if you are playing against good players they are going to try and silence and focus you. So you are probably going to need something like a shrunken head before the warcleft and everything else to increase your survivability. But if its a pub stomp don't even worry about it.

Does lifesteal (elder parasite and satanic) stack with his mana burn?

Nice guide, but why the
'option A/option B' ?
It's really not useful, it just confuses new players, like me.

Because, depending on who you are facing, you might level Combustion over flash to be more offensive and flash on the hero and burn his mana, or you might want a shorter cooldown on flash if you have a hard lane and need to use it a lot.
BUT
always level Flash at level 1, that way you dont get 1st blooded while a level 1 combustion is pretty useless.

People underestimate Magebane. Blink's not the only way out. He's also got ridiculous speed, the best amongst AGI heroes.
Stun lock proves fatal for any hero and therefore saying that a Magebane is fragile under them circumstances is stupid. Any character is vulnerable against chain stuck-- stun lock.
You should consider using Shield Buckler early in the game. Helps keep levels and survivability until you can max out magical defence and ultimate.

for some reason I just CANNOT manage to NOT suck using magebane (or chronos for that matter). Hopefully this guide will help a bit.

The key is farming. Farm, farm, farm and you might eventually just pwn their entire team in a chronosphere. These heroes are terrible without sufficient farm, so you better be good with the last hitting. :P

Brutalizer has a 2 second cooldown if I recall correctly. Stunlock should not be possible.

Where do I buy stout shield. Does it go by that name? Can't find some of the stuff mentioned.
stout shield is purchased at outpost, which there's 2 on the map. One on legion side at bottom and one at hellbourne side at top.

It is also sold at the base shop, from the same category as the basic weapons and armor. Called 'Iron Buckler'.

What do people here think about Helm of the black legion(vanguard) on magebane? And on anyone actually.

THis guide is not noob friendly. Well at least finding the items aren't. :(

Magebane is one of very few heroes that I believe have a really strong use for Helm. Magebane is extremely fragile, especially to physical DPS, and Helm neatly addresses that specific weakness. It is relatively easy to farm, and comes in components that will allow you to finish it entirely in the lane. It improves your weak early game tremendously.

Vanguard is a must. I got Vlad's on him because I didn't know about orb stacking. It seems to be okay. My Antimage build in DotA was:
Ring of Regen
Scroll of Town portal
Trees
Then:
Boots
Ring of Health
Power Treads
Vanguard
Vlad's
Basher
Yasha
Butterfly
He's a really kickass carry hero, but I played -em so meh.

My build is;
2 runes
1 potion
2 minor
1 pretenders crown
then i go to my lane, when i have 300 i get buckler at the outpost, then lifetube at the outpost, then beast heart at the secret. Then just farm the rest (same build as you)
Its a very good build imo, since you get regen and then you can buy everything at outpost
i get warpcleft after wingbow though

I've never played the magebane before so this might be a noobish question:
Is riftshard(crystalys) and the Uppgraded version(buriza) anything to go for with magebane ?

No, you will want high attack speed first, so either go Warped Cleft or Wingbow. Then stack on your physical damage, Savage Maces are great. Once you get to this point you might consider getting crits, because then they are actually going to pay off.

i would also suggest a codex/dagon cause once you use your alti you pretty much have nothing but blink. it's just somtimes nice to have something else besides alti and close up hitting for damage

I'm a newbie to HoN (with no DotA experience) and Magebane is the only hero I find interesting. Despite that, I see him as a low tier player/I'm bad with him. My experiences:
- Helm of the Black Legion is ok but you can't polish a turd i.e. his HP is always going to be low, so I'm wondering whether buffing something so low is the wrong way to go? The regen is nice but as his attack speed is so high I'm thinking a life steal might be better?
- I play with some friends who are experienced, and they tell me Magebane is a great late game carry, but I struggle to see how:
---------- His mana drain is a static number, not a percentage, so the drain is negligable late game
---------- Stunlocks rape. Someone made a good point here saying stunlocks rape *any* hero, but even one stun with focus fire brings you down
---------- Late game, I rarely see heroes with low mana so his ult does little damage
---------- I see two options for late game 5v5 battles: jump in early and die, or wait for low HP enemies to retreat then teleport in to finish them off. The latter plays pretty much as the Scout which, IMO, offers no help to the team. Advice?
- This is probably just because I'm a newbie and not a Magebane fault, but I struggle SO hard when farming my lane at the start: ranged opponents completely dominate me, I'm constantly on low HP early on even if I play passively. Advice?
- People assume Magebane is the bane of... mages, but am I wrong in thinking he's great against low manapool, high mana spell heroes such as Swiftblade? A few hits against him knocks out his Whirlwind.
Many thanks for help and tips!

Some heroes, without the right allies/items, will have mana issues even into the late game, which you can take advantage of in team fights. Also your ult scales as the opponent gets stronger/gains more mana.
I haven't seen that many successful magebanes, but he *can* work if you get farmed up and the other team doesn't (which is true of most heroes). He's not really better than other choices as far as late game carries go, but his skills do allow for some level of scaling (his magic resist is pretty sweet).

I take all of this back!
Just finished a game and carried as Magebane- using the strats here.
Went for trees + ring of regen and played defensive @ legion bottom.
Got my helm pretty quick and with the RoR I was able to last hit/deny in my lane.
Steam boots set to strength came next, followed by abyssal skull.
With high speed + blink + all that regen I was cleaning up in the forest despite having no intention of jungling (the opportunity presented itself :p )
There was a comical moment when pyromancer ambushed me then proceeded to chase(!). He blew his spells ASAP (got me to ~20%) losing all his mana. I teleported into his face and my ult put him down.
With all the jungling and occasional gank I had silly amounts of gold and added Wingbow, Doom Bringer (figured I was never gonna die with 2,000hp + blink + magic resistance) and Hack.
By the end my damage was 500 and with his attack speed he was an absolute monster :s
Anyway- he does seem very item-dependant. You NEED hp (contrary to my first post) and life steal combined with his attack speed lets him tank.
Really enjoyable character to play- when things go right ;)
