For those who are disliking the graphics, do the following:

Watch a replay in 1080p on Youtube instead of a live cast. It's higher quality the cast and likely more similar to what an individual player can see without dumbing down the specs. The models look much nicer this way, though I prefer the HoN graphics more. It just makes it look much more polished than the stream does.

The UI can be changed easily, as can cosmetic things like an announcer. My only real qualms with the game are the lack of dissimilarities between buildings (they all look so bland and similar, when different buildings should have different feels), and how retarded some of the portrait models look compared to others (i.e. Storm Spirit to Mirana).

Valve at this point hasn't declared a "pay" system for the game.

If it's F2P, there will be microtransactions. I'm just hoping there won't be pay-for-power like there is in LoL.

If it's P2P, and not a monthly subscription, I could get on board with that, as long as it doesn't introduce pay-for-power later.

Looks pretty awesome to me. This is just the icing on the cake when it comes to inspiration for stepping up our game. We haven't really been pushed much over the past few years, on the art side of things, so I know we welcome the competition. It can only make hon better.

Not that I don't want you to step it up, but actually congrats, HoN has better art IMHO. I know that what I am saying is entirely subjective (but when it comes to art, C'est la vie), but your character design is far superior. All concept art looks thought out, and well detailed. The implementation of that art (3D models) also looks faithful to the concept art, well detailed, and the has fluid animations.

Also note, non of your heroes look retarded (No, I am not being politically incorrect, I literally mean mentally damaged, and yes its stupid I live in a society where I feel I even have to defend the use of a word)

Its also pretty amazing how well all the characters feel like they are in the same universe, with only Emerald Warden feeling slightly out of place (even then, its not much)

So long story short, HoN doesn't need to worry too much about the art, HoN easily wins here.

Watch it in full screen 1080p, after u watched the whole clip then go play a HoN game. You will realize HoN isnt that much superior in graphics as you remembered it to be (or that the graphics looks so much like LoL as everybody seems to claim).


DotA 2 got beautiful graphics, the forest, water, cliff walls, mist and lights. It's very thin and clean too just as DotA was (Note this game is a REMAKE OF DOTA, not a remake of HoN, thus it's a remake of the DotA gameplay) with just as much soundtracks and special effects that are necessary without it being a firework festival.

The only thing that does REALLY bother me is the UI, they really need to fix that. It doesn't blend in at all with the rest of the game that is beautifully created. It looks like something they just threw together cause they ran out of budget or something.


As a Starcraft player, I can relate to all this spamm and rage going on atm, it was exactly what happened when SC2 was announced and everyone raged over the cartoonish look of the game and how blizz totally let everyone's expectations down, then when it was release it turned out not to be that bad.

Anyway, I will definitively try this game out, I played DotA for 4 years and I think Valve nailed the gameplay completely, so then again its just a matter of taste if you prefer HoN gameplay or Dota, but the game clearly does not suck.

You can watch it on anything you want. Everything was a shade of light green including the heroes. They were tiny in comparison to HoN heroes. Puzzlebox size. All the spell animations were a blurry light color. The game play was slow. I watched it at a net cafe with friends and none of the 10 liked it. I'd wait til full release if massive overhaul then I might play both otherwise I wouldn't touch it.

I think we should probably just wait and see. S2 has put out a great product, Valve is now trying to do the same. I have a feeling both games with co-exist fine, and will probably get business from one another. It's really up to the communities decisions and reactions though. Personally, I will try Dota2, and will certainly continue to play HoN as well.

Took me a while to get used to HoN. I still refer to most HoN items to their DotA counterparts to this day. After watching two days of DotA 2, I'm getting accustomed to the looks of the heroes and the new graphics and item icons. It's starting to grow on me. I think it'll be the same way with DotA 2 for most people. At first I didn't like HoN, but I stuck around. People are judging DotA 2 way too quick without even trying it.

Why would you do a $1m tournament, where the whole world is watching, on a game with placeholder art?? That makes so sense. The point of this tournament is to show off your game and you want to show off the best don't you? Or is Valve desperate to get their foot in the door before LoL/HoN shuts them out so they rushed it?

Either way, whatever they put out is what will be judged. And right now, we are judging what we see. If Valve takes in any of the feedback going around at the moment, they sure have a mountain of work to do before retail.

Eartshaker = Behemoth. Both are kinda cool and represent well original Earthshaker.

... The reason HoN can use Behemoth's model is because they created it in Savage. Wtf does savage 2 have to do with valves model changes? They did it for copyright issues in some cases because Blizzard owns the rights to a lot of those models.

I agree, but when discussing "carry potential" we're usually refering to what a carry can do with say - 10k of gold, compared to another carry with the same amount. Although Spec is usually horrible and very slow at taking off- whenever she manages to survive that early game, not many other carries can stand up to her.

Remember, chinese teams usually play a "4 protecting 1" strat whenever they pick like this. So they'll do their best to make this game as long as possible.

My bet is still on Tyloo, even though Morph is farming greatly.

When she was originally ported she shared 2 skills with Drow, now it's been changed to something SIMILAR to Viper's. Viper's doesn't slow attack speed; Arach's still does. Also, Viper's Q does more damage. So if anything, it's a mix between the two now.

Last I heard Predator rarely plays 1v5 and sometimes has a team to set up kills for him. Null Stone won't help **** for that, Tablet and Void Talisman are the counters to Preda. Also, it's nearly impossible for a support to get a Null Stone.

Everyone has been complaining so much about the chinese hardcarry farmfests, and I gotta agree a bit, it's pretty boring to watch. That's why I love watching the european teams. Na'vi and mym run push strats similar to the current metagame in hon to great success, and m5 are an even manlier version of OK (old hon metagame of ganking/double roam with stunzzzz). Am I the only one who loves how all these strats actually work, and how the metagame is so diverse?

The team compositions are also really diverse. I've seen 2-1-1 with jungle, regular 3-1-1, 2-2-1 AND "the nooby" 2-1-2 and they all work out to their own strengths, with none of them seemingly standing out. If the variation continues to be this big in dota 2, I really can't see any top teams staying in hon once the beta is out. Really enjoying this tournament a lot so far (maybe except bo1 in the knockout rounds, it should really have been bo3 from the start and not only in the three finals).

Epic game, though morphling did throw quite a bit though. First by not buying anything when he had 9k gold and only one buyback, and then by just running up to the entire OK team by himself when they were pushing for megacreeps. Nonetheless really intense match, I'm ****ing loving this game more and more for every match.
