I think the only reason that was boring to watch was because of the lame ass turtling.

I want to say though, i really prefer the Dota 2 models over HoN models. Spectre looks awesomeness.

The problem DotA2 has, amongst many other things, is that it copied the "themes" of the DotA heroes. Which is okay for a hero like Lich, but not okay for a hero like Venge or Mercurial, who don't really have any "solid" theme.

I mean Sandwraith or Andromeda seem much more like their abilities fit to who they are, while VS and Spectre just are "some things that do some things".

Oh, and turtling, and in general, 60 minute games are completely normal for DotA.

I like the map design and artwork a lot, but I like HoN too... I was expecting more gameplay improvements from Valve.

If Dota 2 sucks, HoN is the scum of the Earth. Sorry, but Dota 2 looks like a much better game.

The thing is, DotA2 plays a lot more like LoL.

It's slower, farm all game, and then do stuff after the game is 40+ minutes long, while HoN gives you action from start to end usually.

Which is weird, considering that the "jungling tri-lane" meta DotA has atm, should actually foster more action, since you have 4 heroes getting farm early.

If you enjoy an average length of 45-60 minutes per game, and farmfests, you will probably enjoy DotA2.

Besides this game, 4 other games have been played. 3 of them lasted 30ish minutes and one lasted for an hour. However ifyou look stats, those 3 games looked a bit runovers.

Well, it's clearly dota, with all good and bad parts.

The observer mode surprises me. They add no development into it (to this point) and that's quite sad. Even the old obs mode of HoN had more functionality. Don't mention the starcraft 2 observer mode.

I was expecting crispy, mature dark graphics with great, detailed animation but all I got was this cell-shady style kindergarten look with no balls whatsoever. Especially the projectiles and spell effects have no OOMPH or distinguishably unique, detailed feel to them. The worst thing of all (Which can thank god be turned off in HoN) is the selection outlines which are an annoying and ugly unnecessary element for the educated gamer's eye. 0/10.

As much as I enjoyed Bradzilla's stream, I still think DotA 2's better. Sure, it has a horrible spectator UI (does it even have one? looks like the normal player UI to me), but everything else is better.
Though Valve DID make a huge mistake by deciding to stream a china vs china game first, lmao. We'll see how it really goes soon, once we get to see some non-ricing teams duke it out.

Do people who post on this even know what they're talking about? It's not the game that's slow, it's the teams. In any competitive matches both teams will generally play passive trying not to make any mistakes. This is even more so for asian teams as they generally play as passive as possible even from Dota 1. The graphics look great imo, but the presentation of the product needed more work.

Looks a bit iffy, and the animations are far from up to date I think. The heroes kinda "glide" instead of walking. Also what the heck is up with those chinese??? I have never seen a more boring game in my life. Even complete noobs would actually attack the other players more. Why the hellborne (dire?? wtf) played so scared is beyond me, seeing they had a big gold lead wich they could've used to buy back infinitely if they failed a teamfight. Also they had token multiple times and still didn't commit to teamfights. Don't care if the mechanics are a bit different, that's just plain wrong.

To me it does look like lol.

The way I see it HON has crisp clear graphics, the abilities are fairly simple looking, valk throws her arrow its a flying arrow.

Lol has lots of SFX whenever an ability is used, rather than seeing the actually ability you see lots of flashing lights, it works with the cartoon anime style graphics, HON doesn't use so many effects, you just see the ability.

Peb does his stun you see rocks and that is it, no flashy lights.

Dota 2 seems like a combination to me, fairly clean graphics in terms of the heroes, creeps etc but then when they use abilities you see lots of flashy lights etc. Not so much as lol but much more than HON.

Imo HON is easier for an outsider to watch, someone that doesn't play the game won't know much about what is going in LOL, at least I don't when I watch, HON seems simpler to watch in that sense.

I imagine it won't matter once you get into the game but for an outsider it is confusing.

The game seems much slower to me, anyone else notice this? it feels like they are running around without boots even when they have them.

I watched 1 game which was really boring, no action for really long periods so it was boring to watch, hopefully the next games will have more action.

Is the camera zoomed out more? I thought that might be why the game appears slower, because you see more on the screen than in HON?

That always bothered me about HON, you see so little on the screen you have to move your mouse so much more just to see where the action is, you can't fit your team and the enemies onto the same screen during fights.

Hope they fix the stream, can't hear half of what the commentators say, I am sure it is frustrating for the players to be playing with such lag as well.

For people who don't know why there was lag.
The stream started with using the DotATV in game streaming set up.
Once the stream broke 1 million viewers the game started to bug out so they had to split it off over to ownedtv set up on another side computer (why we lost the shoutcasters).

They forgot to split the China stream and that broke 1 mill on it's own so it made another huge lag spike.

By the end of the game there was over 2.8 million viewers of the main stream and it was making issues for the person spectating.

It's much worste. You see HoN have made a game, they had beta tests and then was under DDoS attack. Dota 2 and Valve were so confident that did not made any beta testing but instead decided to make World's championship and they failed on this(not a large DDoS from botnet, but simply their game code works bad). Just realize the difference.

No, it's not just Gamescom network. If you check chat you will notice that players whom are connected locally not through the Internet experience lags as well. Or didnt you saw that "DELAY" and "LAG" messages all around the game.

It's much worste. You see HoN have made a game, they had beta tests and then was under DDoS attack. Dota 2 and Valve were so confident that did not made any beta testing but instead decided to make World's championship and they failed on this(not a large DDoS from botnet, but simply their game code works bad). Just realize the difference.

There were always server issues with HoN servers. They didn't start with the DDoS attacks.
They didn't do any beta tests, because they arent even in beta. It's an alpha version, and ur expecting it to work just like a finished game.

I just don't like that they showcased such an unpolished game. I would have much preferred them wait a few weeks/months until everything was almost polished. It would have made a much better showing. Instead it appeared quite laggy etc and was kind of a turn off. I know the final game will be far better but first impressions are important.

DotA has currently "jungling tri-lanes". You have a trilane, and one of the 3 heroes in that tri lane will be able to jungle very early, if not from lvl1. Which is basically what we are starting to see in HoN too.

Anyhow, my 2cents about DotA2 so far:

Annoying sounds:
I'd rather have an announcer tell me what rune I pick up, than the hero that picks it up.
I don't want my hero to say "deny" everytime I deny a creep.
Illusory orb sounds very annoying and awesome at the same time.

Bad looking visuals:
Lion's stun would be a good example. It just doesn't look good. I don't have a problem with "clean" effects, that's one of the things I loved in GW1, but Lion's stun just looks bad/bland.
Levelup-visual. It looks bad. I honestly thought it was a heal when I first saw it. I'm not even sure yet that it is the level-up visual.
Heroes: Most heroes are just poorly designed. It seems like Valve tried too hard to make heroes look the same as in DotA, while staying away from their looks as far as possible, because they aren't legally allowed to. They should just try to be more original with their looks.
Item icons aren't good either, sadly. I'd honestly prefer the DotA icons over what DotA2 has currently. They just have better contrast on the icon, and make them "pop" outmore.
