Just saying that if I had a game I couldnt keep up for others to play I wouldnt take their money to have em sitting on my forum and flaming becouse I cant keep the servers running. But thats just me

I mean it is already great that S2 is posting the current state of their difficulties, not every developer would do that. Especially telling how bad things are is even worse than keeping every news in the back, but they do it for YOU, so you know what is happening and why the game is currently not working.

Of course it is really bad that the whole system relies so much on just a few servers and that nothing work at all without them. It is also shitty that somehow only S2 got problems hosting on servers at "large facilities." But that is how things are at the moment and you cannot change it by crying and spreading disappointment. They are trying to fix their issues, so at least give them the chance switching to different servers to get rid of the DDoS attacks and everything else. It takes some time to make things happen. Everyone sees that S2 made mistakes just by the fact that the game is not working most of the time, but they are working on it and telling the exact issues to the community (Thats pretty rare at game developing). So stop pushing it and better support the game you like so much (without the technical issues obviously) and stop destroying it. It won't help for neither side and who knows how good/bad DotA2 will be...

This excuse is BS. It doesn't hold water. Apparently the processors are working because you know the filesystem is corrupt. What hardware is going to fix a corrupt filesystem? The only thing that's going to fix your filesystem is something like fsck unless you're running windows. If that's the case no wonder.

With that said I can have any piece of hardware replaced in my datacenter within 4 hours. You need to buy better hardware in the first place with legit service plans.

I only play 4-5 games a week and this is sad that I'm noticing patterns of downtime.

Changing a processor just can't break your HDD; most likely the technician in charge went nuts and started to hit the components with a pipe wrench while screaming SWIMMINGLLLLYYY.

On a more serious note, the idea to do maintenance on both your main server and backup server is just plainly retarded... Most "real" companies have "Disaster Recovery" environments to rely on and they patch/upgrade it a couple of days after the production fix, to make sure such screw ups never happen. This has been a best practice in the IT world for years, but seems like S2 haven't heard of it yet.

I wish those lvl 25s at s2 would try harder to inform the community about this kind of downtime. Why not post it somehow on the homepage, or at least diligently maintain a sticky forum post. I would like to see diligent updates with information about progress and a eta of the next update. I think a lot of my frustration about downtime comes from my lack of news.

Yeah okay... And when that "happened", you kept pushing the ETA by 2 hours at a time, and now, 8 hours later, you come up with this. So tell me, did it take you 8 hours to find out your processors were fried?

I found profound wisdom in something someone told me once, it's very simple and it goes "Things are most likely the way they look". And "things" look like your staff is scrambling through "Networking for dummies". Causality is a fact of this universe, things don't just "happen" for no reason. Your file system crashed? **** happens, good thing you tried it on one box at a time. Your file system and it's counterpart crashed? Someone didn't know what they were doing, and neither did the rest of the people working with that person. I understand S2 is a new company, and with everything new comes new challenges, but if you plan on making a solid reputation for yourselves and create sustainable business, you're going to have to understand that the rules change when the customer is asked to dish out money (albeit a small amount, but still money), and this kind of unregulated inefficiency and utter lack of customer communication is not going to work (I bring this latter point because I've had to go to general posts to find an official post regarding what was going on, this current thread, I've had to browse for the last 20 minutes to find out i had wasted 20 minutes). You can no longer afford to have your cousin who hooked up two linux boxes in his basement run your networks, you can no longer use norton firewall for your security, and, that should have been a no brainer, you can no longer, nor should you have ever lie to your customers.

You stole this game concept from other people, and it's brought you wealth, don't throw it all to waste by refusing to make the tough calls.

Lots of words of wisdom for S2 here. Especially with DOTA 2 around the corner. When times are dark, good communication helps you save your face as a serious company. I must admit it has been handled a lot better during the DDOS attacks.

In fact I just came back to enjoy the game after 2 week break since I had no time for it. Straight from DDOS to hardware failure. Bad timing :/

This seems to be the official rant thread and I don't think S2 staff bothers reading it but just in case they do, I might put in my 5 cents. I have some background in networking so I'm not talking here out of my ass.

I don't know the complexity of the insides of HoN and S2 backup system (you do have one S2, don't you ?), so I might be a bit simplifying here.
Cloud computing can be a fairly new idea if you're not keen on the topic. Nevertheless it THE way to deal with short-time hardware shortage. On top of it it's ridiculously easy to set up - just look at Amazon EC2 service (http://aws.amazon.com/ec2/) with servers spread around the world. Paying 2 servers for a few days if dirt cheap. But even if it's not a matter of 2 servers and it'd turn out to be costly, since I don't always have time to play HoN I'd gladly pay an extra buck or two to play in times of crisis - which sadly for me seems to be frequent these days (call it HoN insurance :)).

Granted I don't work on computers, but I sure as hell know you don't do something new to all you've got all at the same time. Also, Im no expert but im pretty sure its easier to make/get hacks for First Person Shooters then it will be for a game like Dota 2. its like when people used to compare PCs getting more virus' than macs because less people used macs and based on that there was less virus' designed for macs because those designers felt it was just a waste of time.

I have played hon since the beta (around when pandamonium came out) and only played dota for a mere month, and you have done everything in your power to make it just like dota because thats what people want.

But ever since valve and icefrog were QQing you have made it everything possible for hon to not be like dota, which people do NOT like.

Problems right now -:
1 - pay $30 for 2 skins LOL! e.g. TB and Arma
2 - pay $30 for a worse version of Duke Nukem (I know it was made by the same guy but it sounds nothing like him fs)
3 - removed secret shops......

Where are you trying to go with this lol? This has nothing to do with my post of simply saying to either stay or leave. But I would like to include on this topic. I still play DotA to this day, only because blizzard is a trusted company where there are never problems when it comes to running on its own. The only con of DotA is the community. Most matches are bot-hosted, and much of the community is now dead, due to games like HoN and such. I only bought HoN in order to having a more fast-paced, lively community. I honestly didn't know this company at first and I just based their reputation off of my peers' suggestions. Knowing how bad they are now, I'll still continue to play because it only costed me $25-30 which is nothing. If HoN never goes back up again then I'll just stick with Dota \:

So fck horrible. They have issues too often last month, and now they just shootdown all servers for a 24 hours. S2 made good begining when they have released HoN. But it seems they have not enough resourses to handle it. W8ing for DotA2 ^^

I agree, an offline mode would be really nice to add in. Can practice just against bots to get the hang of (new) heroes. Also a LAN match just between mates with no stats

So's I purchased the account on friday in the evening, worked fine, everything great. Servers crash... I can deal with that. Now, my account gets changed to a trial account. WTF?!?!? So I contact S2, and they gimme a link to the account recovery page. I go there, nothing. It keeps giving me this BS error message about how all accounts have been restored, and it can't find my purchase. So I send a message to S2's help desk. And nothing. Well I don't give a rat's ass nymore. I'm effing getting my account back even if it costs me a freaking liver. My transaction ID is 3691559455.

And again, the chat server is down, and again there is no annoucement at all about that. People don't even complain anymore, they are used to that not working game.

But seriously the hosting and network part is one of the worse i've ever seen. I only consider the early beginings of Gamespy to be worse than S2.

Unreliable servers, endless patch, corrupted databases, pretty bad ping, unsecured servers... On the network side everything is bad.
When other companies updates their games, you won't even get a 1mn disruption, on HoN it's always bad... Maybe it's time for S2 to choose other people on some part of the work. Cause network and hosting are killing the game and pulling it so low below the network standards in gaming.

Try running in Win95 compatibility mode for the patch, then normal mode to play.

Just got another leave due to this ****. I was in a game. And it just froze and kicked me out. The game is nowhere to be found, I can't reconnect. My only 2 leave are from bugs.

But S2 lost the heart of many players in the past weeks.

I pre ordered the game and was very supportive.

Now i just disrespect S2 attitude and the way they handled all of this.


How can you say that.. When DOTA 2 comes out im not saying its gonna be the best right off the release but its gonna be a hell better then this is now. Not to mention a few months later when the game is op with patches. I would be very surprised if S2 didnt lose more then half of their gamers. Right now I cant matchmake they have to patch every other day it seems and still fixes nothing just minor insignficant issues. This game is just turning to crap even with the steady Champion releases.
