We dont pay a subscription therefore we dont pay for upkeep, if you go play WoW then you pay a subscription and you still get downtime, and by downtime i mean conciderable downtime. So i dont really think you have grounds to complain.

We payed for a game, and just because we don't pay subscription the game still have to work that's only fair

Again servers are offline..I am getting really sick of these issues. I understand that you are having hard times lately but that doesnt change the fact that i can't play.

and it's your responsibility (s2) to keep the game up. I mean, it's ok if the servers don't work in a while ... sometimes your car is broken, sometimes you hurt your knee and can't play soccer ... sometimes servers go down.
But what I REALLY dislike about this is the utter denial of giving ANY information to the players ... this shitty MOTD is called message of the DAY, not message of the MONTH or message of the HEY I GOT NEW ALT AVATAR GO BUY COINS NOW.
It's not that difficult to update it twice or three times a day, like whenever something special happens (and down times ARE special to me, even if it's only for half an hour. It would take less than 5 minutes to write such a notification and would calm down so many thousands of players).
Furthermore, this MOTD should be readable without the necessity of login in or, respectively, on hon.com with a link given on the login-UI from the game so that everyone has the opportunity to know what's going on at the moment.

Again, if you didnt want to read the whole post, the important idea is:
it's ok that the servers dont work sometimes for any reason (i dont really care), but you should let your customers KNOW.

btw: if i go to a restaurant that is closed without any sign or information or anything so i cannot get my food there, i doubt i would go there another time (except i go to this restaurant for a very very long time and know the service is good); it's the same with S2 being the service and HoN being the food - i can't get my food and S2 has NOT proved to be a good service yet; the only reason why i will return to check the food out another time is because i will not have to pay for it again.

In 2 or 3 hours, or, how it will turn out to be, the day after tomorrow, when HoN is back online and everyone is satisfied again, they will publish a hidden topic in a forum with things like "there were some minor problems we had to abolish" or "we apologize for the slight inconveniences" or shitty stuff like that, not like they might tell us "eeh right now 2 of our 3 technical staff members are in their holidays and the third one was the innovation for our logo and apparently he turns out to be an ape, so im afraid he cant solve the problems right now", which would rather fit the truth.
I dont know what they are thinking - whatever, they should rather stop developing the game and just try to keep it stable and working, its not long until dota2 will be released and then NOONE with some rationality left will keep playing this commercial stuff.

S2, what about this idea:
you could demand like 1000 gold coins in order to let us log in again?

We are back in the office after sleeping a few hours and we plan to patch this morning sometime soon. We just had a quick power outage here (grr storm) and are working on a database issue before we patch, but we will keep you updated.

For now you can still play as normal and you shouldn't notice any interruption. Just letting you know why stickies disappeared and why you might (unlikely but still) have trouble finding a server.

You flood the host with information in which it cannot respond. This is probably what you are referring to because I doubt you have any more knowledge than that.

Actually game is not "HoN", but DotA on s2 engine. DotA was originally developed by Eul and Guinsoo, then being managed by IceFrog with some ideas he stole from True.Rus and Cacodemon. No s2 stuff was injured in the process.

haha, I come back yesterday after a long break from HoN, after the DDoS downtime, only to play for one day, and see more downtime. I'm up for some side work as hardware maintenance since whoever is poking around can't figure it out.

DoTA2 free = dead HoN. Sorry. At least you can walk away from s2 having learned how to manage downtime and hardware.

Yeah okay... And when that "happened", you kept pushing the ETA by 2 hours at a time, and now, 8 hours later, you come up with this. So tell me, did it take you 8 hours to find out your processors were fried?

I found profound wisdom in something someone told me once, it's very simple and it goes "Things are most likely the way they look". And "things" look like your staff is scrambling through "Networking for dummies". Causality is a fact of this universe, things don't just "happen" for no reason. Your file system crashed? **** happens, good thing you tried it on one box at a time. Your file system and it's counterpart crashed? Someone didn't know what they were doing, and neither did the rest of the people working with that person. I understand S2 is a new company, and with everything new comes new challenges, but if you plan on making a solid reputation for yourselves and create sustainable business, you're going to have to understand that the rules change when the customer is asked to dish out money (albeit a small amount, but still money), and this kind of unregulated inefficiency and utter lack of customer communication is not going to work (I bring this latter point because I've had to go to general posts to find an official post regarding what was going on, this current thread, I've had to browse for the last 20 minutes to find out i had wasted 20 minutes). You can no longer afford to have your cousin who hooked up two linux boxes in his basement run your networks, you can no longer use norton firewall for your security, and, that should have been a no brainer, you can no longer, nor should you have ever lie to your customers.

You stole this game concept from other people, and it's brought you wealth, don't throw it all to waste by refusing to make the tough calls.

I agree it's quite frustrating to see constant issues with HoN. I also agree that S2 could have done a lot more to protect their servers, but again, it's a business. They never guaranteed us 24/7 perfection. No use flaming them.

What I will say is that when the Playstation network crashed, they gave people refunds/rewards (3 months free play or whatever) to make up for it. But that was a 2-3 week outage. Either way, I think S2 should consider doing something for its customers (free coins or something like that, doesn't even have to be big). It costs them nothing and is a nice gesture.

And for the Others yes ofc im pissed to because it feels like i play 2 days not this 2 days its well than i want to play and its not working. But atleast its not S2s fault, its the fault of Little Kiddies who like to hack a game, maybe that are LoL players who cant accept that hon costs 30 Dollar and is (normaly) more stable and has better servers than LoL.
