I am on ubuntu 11.04 and have been experiencing this problem for some time now (also with 10.10). Only when I am wirelessly networked I experience lag spikes. These lag spikes are so severe though that I am usually about 1/2 to base by the time I return from my lag.

My guess is that my network connection is refreshing or something during that time and that is what causes my lag. It does however seem to occur more when in fights than just farming

I am not experiencing any frame rate issues however. Even when lagging everyone just stops where they are but movement animations continue with no problems.

Unfortunately wireless in general really isn't that good for gaming, Wireless isn't that great at sustained data rates.

It could be that yr drivers are flipping your wireless card into lower power mode tho so examine your distro's forums/documentation on options available

Wireless is difficult to use smoothly, especially if you have a lot of wireless traffic nearby.

Are you using 802.11g or 802.11n? Do you use WEP or WPA encryption? How many computers are on your network? How many wireless networks are nearby? Is the problem apparent when using any other programs, or just HoN?

To help reduce wireless dropouts, try the following steps on an 802.11g router:

1. If possible, do a wireless survey in your router and choose the wireless channel 1, 6, or 11 with the lowest interference (the lowest negative -dBm value)
2. Reduce the distance between the router and your computer
3. If your antennas (router or wireless card) are directional, point them towards each other

If you're using an 802.11n router with a 40MHz spectrum, try switching it to a 20MHz spectrum band. This will reduce speeds but improve reliability in heavy areas.
