Am I the only one that's highly confused why we're using IRC scrim channels when we're all on a universal chat server?

More so why are there like 80 different ones?

Scrim channels usually have supervisors to observe players performance in matches, which lets them ban noobs from the channel. These matches usually arent for practicing, but are meant to be played by good skilled players that know the using of wards, monkey and have some common sense of play. These channels have their own stat tracking also, which beats the one of HoN's sometimes. It also let's you play in an unique club to have a feeling of awesomeness.

So true. As long as pickup games stay in little niches, you can be king of your own little land!

The same reason you use IRC for scrims in TF, CS, CoD, Quake and many more. Even though they have dedicated community features IRC is much more versatile, and enables the use of many bots and neat scripts to improve the matchfinding experience.

I'm about 90% sure everyone on steam isn't on a global instant chat and if they are it's just as pointless.

So basically the answer is there is no reason?

Chat server is not working like it should.

That's why. when chat server is fixed, you won't need to.

Channel moderation, people tend to idle other channels on the same IRC network, etc.

If you want to stay a channel operator in the chat server ingame, you pretty much can't leave the channel. It doesn't work like that on gamesurge, at least.

Bots, also are an added bonus

I'm a fan of IRC but it's pretty obvious that finding scrims via IRC for HoN is pretty low. There are just not enough people using it. I would really like to see a mod/update that improves in-game chat. Basically just copy a few key features from IRC.

-Timed Messages (Allows you to put messages on a timer that well auto send to a specific channel)
-Channel Registration (Allows moderation of channels other than clan channels and gives you Op when you return)
-Auto Join/Idle favorite channels
-Copy/Paste Chat

I think with these small changes we could get a lot of people in scrim/recruitment/ringer/team channels and boost the competitive scene.

I made a thread (http://forums.heroesofnewerth.com/showthread.php?t=25844) over in ui mod section that deals with this.

I would support both irc and ingame scrim channels. I prefer idling IRC because it doesn't actually require running the game. Plus, it's easier to scroll through and see who has advertised in the previous hours to pm.

Have fun in 30 min queues and ending up with an AR game when it finally pops.

How about turning down the option of AR then... ... .... ................................

There used to be some INhouse scrim games which worked exclusively on IRC. However, you would also find the most butthurt/ragers/morons there if you missed one creepkill.

No a prison-community was nicer than with these so-called pros. Glad those days are over.
