View Full Version : Honcast's "Top 10 Plays"

Ok well I just watched the Honcast Top 10 Plays of the Week 4/29 (http://honcast.com/video/2011/04/29/honcast-top-10-plays-of-the-week-429)and I'm sorry but this video is garbage. Normally I wouldn't make a post about it but I am truly astounded on what Honcast considers a "Top 10" play.

I mean really? With a few exceptions (shoutout to grand) most of these plays are just awful. The vast majority of these plays has more to do with the other team being awful then the player doing anything remotely impressive.

I see better plays then the so called #1 play on a daily basis in inhouses. The #1 play was not even remotely impressive, so a nomad with a massive level advantage who somehow manages to not dodge a single rocket runs around in circles and tanks a few hits from a couple heroes as well as a keg & turret from a engineer who is 9 levels under him....

I could make a video of astonishingly better quality from a single day of playing inhouses. I mean come on, step it up.

The Aluna hat-trick made me lol a great deal and I think was worthwhile in the video, the Myrmidon play wasn't awful either, the Andro swap was also pretty amusing and worth a watch. However, every single other one was just god-awful, especially the #1 play where I was like banging things against my head wondering why he hadn't already ult'd to get the double kill and get out.

I think whoever selects the top10 these days must be a pretty low tier player and easily impressed.

Do it then. We know it's bad, but how many top 10 replays of the week are there?
Also feel free to submit your own replays, they go off of submissions, not from them looking for it specifically.

So you see token killed by minotaurs every day?

So you see bubbles getting his shell in the very last moment (he didn't skill it before, that's the special part in the scene...) so he can dodge the deadly last hit from tower? Of course you can say he should have one point in it allready, but he didn't and was able to think that fast instead of having a panic reaction oh my oh my god i'm dead.

It's not about the mistakes, else it would be the 10 misplays of the week. And in every so called progame you see mistakes, they are the reason why people can have brilliant moments most of the time. You can allways blame someone, no doubt. But in my opinion it's worth to watch. I think they could work on the presentation, but thats it.

and follow x_raiders suggestion, because this sounds pretty interesting if this is daily buisness to you what i described above.

The plays are bad (Some, not all), but I'm pretty sure they don't get much material to work with. Some more pros should send some better plays in.

If you don't, then you might as well be quiet and not comment on it.

Pro players used to submit plays to Honcast top 10 all the time but for some ****en reason they would take these mediocre plays from pubs instead of the what we send them.

It is most likely because honcasts is too lazy to go through all the plays and just half asks it.

Well, the plays are provoked by a player, who does a mistake and the other wo does it well, and many scenes have a surprising turn around in it. And perhaps the "pro"-plays weren't as entertaining as the others. You don't have to be pro-soccer to do a trickshot, you don't have to be a pro-soccer to hit the angle from 40 meters and shoot a goal.

You guys are for sure better than the players in there, but they've decided to not put it in. And when you talk about pro playerS you mean yourself or someone else?

what if they simply decided to not look on the names but on the play?

Yeah during a week of games I see better plays than those and against more competent opponent's as well, which makes them vastly superior in relative terms.

IMO Honcast are trying to get the whole of the community involved in this. **** bracket or not. Now whether it's a good idea or not, it probably isn't.
It can't be everything about you pros. The game is balanced around your opinions but you come here to whine about some spotlight video, which doesn't consist of plays from tournaments or IHL matches? Pathetic.
Here's an idea Jah, you make IHL Top 10 plays of the week. I and many others will enjoy watching it, if it's any good of course.

Damn, a lot of jelly haters in this thread!

Anyways, this is like the same mentality that people have about our "Honcast Top 10 Community Rankings" acting as if we are doing this to make a point of OMG THESE ARE THE TOP 10 AND YOU CANNOT ARGUE AND NO EXCEPTIONS. Like really, get over it... both of these features (obviously this one) are 100% purely for entertainment! People get the misconception that these are actually "Top 10 MOST "SKILLED" Plays of the Week" when it is not, it is top 10 for entertainment value.

There is nothing more too it, its simple as that... this mentality that people have of "omg I could do so much better" and "wtf those players are all 1500 scrubs" is just sad but at the same time a representation of the HoN community. Like, just sit back and enjoy the video for entertainment and if you cannot then don't bother watching it in the future... but don't get all butthurt for the wrong reasons and make a forum post because you are a :madm:.

Also, the whole "half-assed" approach.... like really, we got 300+ submissions this last week alone and it only grows. The fact that we are even going through the effort to put out such a video with community involvement is great and I would hope one could understand what we go through to make it happen. Now I just most likely fueled the fire of several forum trolls, but whatever... I am just in the mood today I guess!

TLDR; If you aren't gonna watch these videos for PURE ENTERTAINMENT VALUE but instead judge the skill level and actually how great they were compared to what you could do... then don't watch them.

I'd like to see some of those top plays you speak about, game IDs? Just to compare them with honcast's...willing to bet one of the arguments you'd use is a "consider who's he making jukes on" or "consider that the ones he's killing are pros" to justify how boring those plays are. Then you'll go to wadota and fap to randoms making big plays against other randoms, because they are entertaining.

It would seem you are jealous tbh. Pro players are everywhere in streams and honcasts, can't non competitors have a chance to be spotlighted just because "they play vs 1500 scrubs"? Get a life nerd.

And as for breaky saying its for entertainment only, I believe a couple weeks or months back I saw a magmus play. There are more examples but that was appalling, I guess it was rather entertaining though, I was amused by that show of low skill level.

It is far more entertaining to watch a good play at a higher tier than a lower tier because otherwise you're not entertained so much as baffled at why the opponent's are doing such retarded things. I mean the #1 play was a guy who seemed to have very little concept of moving out of the way of damaging nukes, he runs back over a chipper ultimate for example. Also didn't use his ult to get an easy double tap and run off =\. Not much entertaining about watching someone spam Mirage Strike against people who can't find dust in the shop.

Guardian Wisp (http://www.playdota.com/heroes/guardian-wisp) Ulted back to fountain while tethered to Pudge, thus teleporting both.
Tether breaks while they both sit in Fountain, waiting for Wisp to teleport back into the enemies.
Pudge times his hook perfectly so the grab occurs at the same time as the teleport back*, which causes him to return to Fountain

*If he hooks too late, he doesn't hit him anymore (obv), if he hooks too soon Wisp breaks the hook and teleports into enemies anyways

Jah is obviously just mad that his play(s) didn't make it into top 10.

There have been bunch of clips from pro players on the vids so far, you can't exactly blame HoNcast for not stalking IHL games for top plays if people aren't sending them.
With that being said though, Breaky should take notes of awesome plays during the games he casts, N0tail's "Tortrick" for example would easily crack into next week's top 10. :)

Breaky. Perhaps you should sometimes get like a pro player to pick the content? Like once every two/three weeks, just to please people that cause commotion. I also think it would be pretty cool to see what the best consider to be, well, the best.

it's always fun to see big play in IHL.

I blame the pro players for being too good to submit their replays to the top 10.

By golly we make sure that well known players and teams get priority on the top 10, and guess what, they don't send them in.

We have HUNDREDS of submissions a week, and they're mostly garbage. We can only work with what we get. Instead of complaining about what the Top 10 isn't, submit some good ones with your awesome "top tier" plays.

Maybe you should submit these amazing ihl plays rather than complain that the plays that actually are being submitted are awful.. I'm pretty sure honcast would love nothing more than to fill the top 10 with pro players but if the only plays being submitted are from pubs and mm then they are pretty much restricted to those

I don't get the rage vs jah. He just said, and I think he has a point. I mean, some of the "top 10 plays" were good, a few weeks ago. But this one ? Honestly, it was just boring.

Also, the "it's for entertainment" is a bad excuse imo. Name it "fun plays" and show some fun plays, but if you name the thing "top 10 plays", it's supposed to be awesome plays, and until now it has always supposed to be so ("awesome plays").

No guarantee since I haven't bothered with that for a long time, but it's pretty much the only explanation I can wedge out of my brain:
Stuns don't stack. The chemical rage dodged a 3x Multi from Ogre, and while that stun is still "on", he can't get stunned another time.

OT: The fact is, that they don't get better plays submitted. I still find some of them entertaining. You don't have to watch them if you dont want, but some people want to see them even if they are mostly bad.

No, what you're reviewing is the community submissions, but you are making their (as you say it) lack of quality out to be Honcast's fault.
