1. Introduction




Succubus is one of my favourite heroes in HoN. She is a nice disabler and in early / mid-game her ganking-ability is incredibly. Succubus is very strong in mid-lane though dont mind if u have to go bot/top lane.
At beginning Succubus has not much HP so care but with heartache you can easily survive if you dont get ganked by more than 2 enemys.

2. Skills


Smite [Q]

Description: Succubus causes a target enemy to be smitten with her beauty. Drastically reduces their base attack damage.
Manacost: 125
Details: -30/-60/-90/-120% base damage for 20 seconds.
Analysis: This skill is nearly a second disable for hard-hitters. You dont need this in early game, skill it late.



Heartache [W]

Description: Succubus breaks the heart of a foe, and feeds off the despair it causes, simultaneously damaging the enemy and healing herself.
Manacost: 125/150/175/200
Details: Deals 75/150/225/300 True damage to target unit, and heals self for same.
Analysis: This will save your ass in many situations. In early/mid-game you can make huge damage to the enemy and due to mana-regen you can farm/gank in mid-game without going to base.



Mesmerize [E]

Description: Succubus mesmerizes a target. The target becomes completely disabled, and takes some damage over time. If any unit attacks the mesmerized target, the effects are passed to them.
Manacost: 165
Details: Applies Mesmerize to target for 4/5/6/7 seconds: Deals 20 True damage every second, applies Silenced, Perplexed, Disarmed, Immobilized and Splash Immunity. When attacked, Mesmerize is removed and transferred to attacker. Magic Immune targets may attack Mesmerized units and not have the effect transfered. Heroes may attack Mesmerized allies to tranfer the effect to themselves.
Analysis: This is your first disable. If a target is mesmerized and you atack it, you'll get mesmerized and your target will be free. You have to know which enemy you need to mesmerize and which not. You can get out of a gank of 2 or 3 enemys with heartache to get some life and mesmerize to disable a stunner / slower or dmg-dealer. Also nice if you got the mana to mesmerize and get to the enemy or disable him as long your allies need to come there. Atack and afterwards finish with heartache. Very nice in mid-game to gank 2 enemys easily.


Succubus' Hold[R]

Description: Succubus drains the essence of an enemy, dealing damage over time and stealing mana. While being drained, the target is unable to act.
Manacost: 200/300/400
Details: 5.1 second channel, dealing 100/155/215 (155/215/270) Magic damage per second, 5% of maximum mana drained per second and given to inflictor, applies Silenced, Perplexed, Disarmed, Immobilized and Revealed. Can be cast on magic immune targets but they will not take damage.
Can be boosted with Staff of the Master (bold shows the improved values).
Analysis: Since you get lvl 6, this and heartache will get your nice ganking-ability. If you are in middle just take a look which enemy is there and start with Succubus' Hold following with Heartache and he'll be dead. Ofc depending on which enemy there is but actually in mid-lane this will nearly kill every hero there.




2.1 How to use skills effectively

This always depends on the situation.

The 1v1 ganking skill-cycle is (would suggest this only if you already got lvl 6, otherwise keep farming):
-You start with Heartache to make damage and maybe get some life if it isnt full
-Continue with Succubus'Hold and press Shift-key to instant mesmerize after Ultimate expired so he can't just run away. If you just let it expire he'll have maybe 1 second to walk in fog and then its dangerous to follow cause there could be the whole crew.
-After those skills finished he should have low-hp and you can finish with some attacks followed by a heartache, because while he is mesmerized you can get to him.

If there are 2 enemys:
Normally 2 enemys are not that a big deal for succu because she can simply disable one of them and while this is ultimate the other following by heartace. Ofc then the other hero is already attacking you but your heartache will give you the lost hp. You could mesmerize him again and wait till a ally comes or just ignore him and get back farming / gank another or whatever.

Teamfights:
I would suggest to not disable Jereziah first with mesmerize. When he gets back he will instant heal the focused unit and your whole team gets damage. Disable him while the focused unit is half-hp or something like that.
Put Smitten on a hard-hitter, Scout / Night Hound / Madman / etc.., so this hero wont kill your teammate so fast. Use your Heartache ofc to heal yourself but also to deal nice dmg, maybe if the enemy runs away.
Put Mesmerize never on the focused target.. Your allies wont be able to attack him because then they'll get mesmerized. Put it on a huge aoe-dmg dealer or on someone who channels his ultimate e.g.: Magmus. He'll waste his ulti and you'll avoid huge dmg for your team.
At the same time you can disable a second hero with your ultimate. Actually there is no real rule on who you have to take this. It always depends on the situation and the enemy-heros. Just play him and you'll see and know who to Hold and when it is a waste..


2.2 Skill Build

This is my favourite Skill-Build. Of course there are many others but i prefere this and actually this is very nice for me and my playstyle.

Green = I just would take Smitten if the enemy-lineup has 2-3 huge-dps hero with attacks. Otherwise I would take it last.


2.3 Skill Build Description

So, I love this build. The early stats give you HP and Mana which you both need to gank / farm nice. Since I got level 7 (heartache maxxed) and my ulti is ready its nearly always a kill and I gank much. Doesnt matter if it is 1on1 in a lane or 2on3 or wathever. Your disables (both) allow you to gank very good in mid-game.

Of course there are many other ways to skill, but as I said, this is my favourite and i love it. In Pub 5on5 you WILL get a huge amount of kills while in mid-game and your team isnt epic-fail.

3. Items

You need Manaregen, more HP and more Mana for the beginning. Depending on the situation the way of which to buy first changes.


3.1 Early Items

Description: I always start with those items. Doesnt matter which lane you are. You dont have HP-boost items but in early you dont need them because of your bigger mana-pool and your mana-potions you can Heartache often and get life from this. Care if they gank you, you got low-hp at the beginning.

4. Gameplay

How you really play is in [2.1]. The Laning isnt that hard. Just try to last-hit and deny as much as you can ofc... If you got some dmg just Heartache the enemy and be happy.

Just one tip: Succubus is a nice counter to Arachna.
Why?: If Arachna uses his Ultimate to gank you. Just mesmerize yourself and the spider is mesmerized after attacking you. So his ultimate is a waste on you!

4.1 Allies and Enemies

Good allies: Actually everyone who can stun / slow the enemy to gank them nice.

This is pretty much how I build/play Succubus each and every time. The other Succubus guide was just epic fail - this one is much better.
I tend to get different starting items though - a bit of life regen (perhaps one set of runes?) since Heartache is very expensive early on and Succubus has low base INT and of course minor totems with only one +3 int item. Since it usually leaves me with more gold I get more mana potions.

Oh, and since I almost always go middle with Succubus I tend to ferry a bottle with my team's courier as one of the first items.

Best hero for 1v1 / 2v2...great guide too! I tend to get a bit more HP than what you are getting though.

Doesnt matter for me. I usually use Heartache not before I hit level 3 because of the damage and life I get. And the first time I use mesmerize is usually at lvl 6 or 7 at ganking time.. This is in Pub-game 5on5.



@ bottle..
I tried buying a bottle to stay longer in lane and just gank more. but actually... After buying steamboots I go for Mana-Tube and this is a nice mana-regen. Ofc bottle would be nice but since I got sac stone, bottle was always useless.. I got no problems playing without it.

I'll try hp regen ring and more mana-potions. Think it could be better - yes.

I read the other succu guide and also thought - epic fail. There were many ppl who requested a new one in comments so I decided to make this one. Hope this helps. I'll update it as much as I can.

I wouldnt say it IS the best hero in 1v1. Ofc it is a very strong hero in 1on1 and he'll gank you in lvl 6-12. But I wouldnt say that there is ONE best hero in 1on1.

I read your guide and took a stab at playing succubus. I have to say you did real well covering all the basics. The main things i notice when playing her is that she's REALLY slow and that my creep stats are around half my average whenever I play her. Past early game she's a terrible farmer. Ganks fund most of my luxury items.

I am no expert but you really have no use for a blink while someone like Tempest or Behemoth do. Shroud on the other hand would provide you with a quick stealth-out option which is probably better.

For Succubus I have found that a heavy nuker with AoE attacks like Torturer and Soulstealer work amazingly.

best partner in 2v2 ? i dont know really.. i dont play 2n2. manny heroes can be good cause u can disable one enemy all the time.

Thanks for that great guide. As a beginner I tested nearly every hero but Succubus is now my favourite hero.

The guide doesn't tell it exactly by for me it works best to first buy a manatube for the regen before finishing steamboots. What's youropinion about this?

Yes. Why would Succubus need +attack speed and damage? Mana is what she needs and Steamboots still provide her with it - in fact some hitpoints on top of that, even if the armor is gone (but then it is increased slightly by the agility buff).

I usually find Smitten worth leveling over Mesmerize after level 1. You can ruin an autoattacking hero's day completely with it, they can't even last hit/deny under it's effect. And you really shouldn't need more than 4 seconds of mesmerize in most situations.

Must agree with him, Accursed is a pain in the ass due to his fire shield and ulti (which usually activates when you're channeling Succubus hold and completely removes all damage you do to him with Succubus hold.)

i find that lvl 1 mesmerize is more useful than heartache. Not only for the reasons given above but also that if your fighting for the rune at the start mesmerize is key to any 3 on 1 rune gank or 3 on 3. As well if your ever caught in a situation where you are level 1 facing a gank it will save your life over 75 hp that heartache gives you.

like tanubis said as well, lvl 1 mesmerize is sufficient unless your building for ganks. but if your facing someone annoying like rhino, soul stealer, pebbles who have high dmg early getting smitten is key to shutting down their early farm.

for items i find that what the other team is for heros and what they have for items is key. Usually a mana tube comes first but because you can go in so many directions with that item there is no problem with starting from there. A heavy stun/disable team would prompt me to get linkins, which is prefered over bkb in succs case for many reasons. First is the hp/intel boost, second for the hp/mana regen, and third for the wasting of a stun on her or multi stuns. When you ult any hero focus is put on you but if your bkb'd focus is taken off and the stuns are allocated elsewhere, but if you have linkins the other team will most likely focus stuns on you. Either you will stop the one wasted stun on you or you'll absorb the one and take a couple more, but because of your higher hp +15 str compared to +10 you'll absorb the blow better. This allows your team to not be stunned and hopefully ground pound the other team that is focusing their attention on you!

As well linkins is a cheaper and better item than a soul stone and it provides much more help.
Succ doesn't need that much mana regen and nothing that the 15 intel and 150% mana regen won't provide for her mid game.
where soul stone is based on her ability to capture souls in order to gain mana regen.

I do agree that succ is one of the best one on one heros
but she is also possibly the best team support hero
no other hero can disable two heros while killing a 3rd
and personally when being jumped or tower rushed i have more confidence in succ's ability to get the job done over any other hero.
smitten ensures that any dps hero is completely useless.

overall though a decent guide, but i think you should rethink the items based on the strength of linkins over soul stone. as for the skill build it is a good approach but a skill approach like
1. mesmerize
2. heartache
3. heartache
4. stats.
5. heartache
6. ult
7. heartache
8-10. smitten
11. ult
12. smitten
13-15. mesmerize.
16. ult.
17-25. stats.

this is the build i use and i find it very helpful! :D
mesmerize is a great skill but 80 true dmg at lvl one compared to 140 at lvl 4, that 60 dmg isn't going to be missed early as well as those 3 seconds. 4 seconds is a lifetime in hon.
