What is this?
This is a program that will allow you to choose what model each hero should have. This will force the model to your client, so no matter what model is selected, you will see the chosen model.
The program will then create a HeroModels.honmod file that you can add to your HoN ModMan.

How do I use this program?
Make sure both "HeroModels.exe" and "Ionic.Zip.dll" is in the same folder, and open the HeroModels.exe. Now you can select what heroes you want to force a model on. If the bordercolor is blue, you will force the standard/1.0 model. If the bordercolor is orange, you will force the alternative model. If the bordercolor is grey, HoN will decide what model will be viewed. When you are done, you click "Generate HeroModels.honmod", and the program will create a "HeroModels.honmod". Now all you have to do is add it as a normal mod, using the HoN ModMan (http://forums.heroesofnewerth.com/showthread.php?t=25883) or ModManager (Java) (http://forums.heroesofnewerth.com/showthread.php?t=111678). In the Mod Manager, the mod is called "Alt Hero Models Picker". Alternativeley you can set your Mods folder in the Options, to automatically save the "HeroModels.honmod" file and start the Mod Manager afterwards.

- Both files in same folder.
- Open "HeroModels.exe" and select models.
- Click generate, and copy the "HeroModels.honmod" to your mod folder and procede as usual. ("Alt Hero Models Picker")

Green border? Orange border? Blue Border? Grey border? say wut?
I have simply "made up" four categories "Green border", "Orange border", "Blue border" and "Grey border".

Green border: This is when you force a client-side custom model from your HoN\game\ folder. This will force a custom model to be shown only for you no matter what model is selected ingame.

Orange border: This is when you force a client-side model, and this is what the mod will do. This will force a specific model to be shown for you (and you only), no matter what model is selected.
Blue border: This is when you force all client-side models to have the standard skin, no matter what model is selected.
Grey border: This is the way HoN normally handles models. The chosen model will show.

Still confused? Example time!
Player 1 got my mod, and forces all the standard models (blue border).
Player 2 got my mod, and forces all the alternative models (orange border).
Player 3 got no mods (grey border)

Player 1 choses Witch Slayer (Standard), Player 2 choses Female Pyromancer and Player 3 choses Scorpion Magmus. What will be displayed?

Player 1: Standard Witch Slayer, Male Pyromancer, Standard Magmus.
Player 2: Pimp Slayer, Female Pyromancer, Scorpion Magmus.
Player 3: Standard Witch Slayer, Female Pyromancer, Scorpion Magmus.

I can explain more if you need.

What happens when more models come out?
When new models come out I will make the appropriate changes to the program.

How to Update:
- When you click the "Check for Updates" button, the footer will tell you if there is a newer version ready.
- When you open the program and go to the "Options", you can activate "Automatic Version Check". This will be the same as clicking the "Check for Updates" every time you open the program.

If there is a new version out, you can click on "Get New Version" and download it with the integrated updater. You can also download the new Version manually in this Thread.

Known bugs:
- Not tested: If you use a screen resolution of less than ~ 860x650, then it might be hard to use the program.
- You probably need .NET Framework 4 (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/netframework/aa569263).
- Seems to only work for Windows. If anyone knows how to convert a vB.NET program to Linux/Mac, please take the time to show me.
- Alt Rampage Charge animation bug. His horse doesent bend his head down (dont think i can fix that :/ )
- Problems with some Hero animations when any player uses a bought alt model

3. Open Internet Explorer(Not Firefox/Chrome), and write "javascript:alert(navigator.userAgent)". Take a screenshot of the pop-up, or write it all down and place it in your feedback.
4. Do you use the one from Notausgang (http://forums.heroesofnewerth.com/showthread.php?t=25883)(vB.NET) or SHiRKiT (http://forums.heroesofnewerth.com/showthread.php?t=111678)(Java)
5. Pretty self-explanatory.
6. Does the problem occur when using HeroModels.exe, HoN_ModMan.exe, or when you are in-game?

First of all, great job. Just a quick thing, the icons get glitched up on my comp, running windows 7 64 bit at 1920 x 1200 resolution. They seem to be displaying glitched up images, no big deal but its a little confusing :(

This looks like it comes from the Alt of Witch Slayer, do you have any other Mods installed that change his model?

He doesent give me any error. Try deleting resources999.s2z in the hon\game dir and only apply the hero models mod and see if the error still occurs.

Valks Old Javelin trail works with this mod.

Removing altavatar="false" wouldnt make any sense. It also could cause problems to do this.

@Meridi: Try removing your resources999.s2z file in the mods directory.
Are there any other resourcexxx.s2z file other than the resources0.s2z?

Try deliting them too. DON'T DELETE THE resources0.s2z!!

altavatar="false" just removes the option to pick an alt, but you have to pick them anyway.
Removing it won't "cause" anything, I did it.

Most of you have enough coins for alt avatars and want to use them, don't you ;)?
What I'm trying to say is that this made sense for a few alts at the launch of HoN 2.0, now it's obsolete.
But it's your app, do what you wanna do.

This is a general downloader file. You can use it like this:

java -jar Updater.jar ARG1 ARG2 ARG3

ARG1 = Path to .exe file (HeroModels.exe) file
ARG2 = HTTP URL to download the file (just Dropbox it)
ARG3 = Path to the Updater.jar (yes, kinda useless, but this is for auto-deletion)

Well, if you need any changes, just tell me. The program won't start up after updater because it will try to do "java -jar ARG1" :P

Although this ain't VB, I think most of the people have Java installed in their computers.

I am not sure if having other hero mods or skins than those with alts/being effected by this program is a problem or not. however i removed all skins,both mod and s2z's that effect all characters that i am using alt skins through this program. now after updating from v1.18 i think, to the newest v2.2 i am now getting an error. i removed the resource99 or w/e file as well.
error is...
""AltHeorModelsPicker" caused a problem:
Could not find the string with "previewmodel="preview.mdf"" as sought by line 25 of C:\Program Files (x86)\Heroes of Newerth\game\mods\HeroModels.honmod\mod.xml
This may be caused by...."

Because you bought an alt avatar and want to see this avatar every time you play (and show off).
If you set it to dynamic and an enemy plays the hero but doesn't have it you're screwed ;)

On the other hand some ppl buy alts just for trolling.
The enemy sees your Rainbow Rampage but you don't.

As a plus, after adding a FindAll operation, please use a <find position="start" /> to reset the cursor to the start of the file.

If you use <find position="start">STRING</find>, the position attribute will be ignored.

Yes i thought that Glad would behave like this, but havent got a replay with his alt to test it.

Yes, mixed those two up. its now findall sound/ replace with ../sound/

Removed the ../rig.max & file="../high.model

Need replay for Pestilence alt to test.

Yes, tried to get default ramp to work, but got alot of problems there.

The Ebulus sound should be needed, otherwise shes not plaing her kiss sound on ult?!

Will check the Soul Reaper cast.

Finally found it. Its a problem with Manager.jar.

Works fine in HoNModMan.exe.

This will be fixed in the next version. For now what you can do is:

1) Open HeroModels.honmod with winrar/winzip
2) Open mod.xml with an editor
3) Search for: <find position="start">
4) Replace with: <find position="start" /><find>

@SHiRKiT: Cant you fix that in your Manager.jar?
Dont know why this shouldn't work. It does in ModMan why not in Manager?

The findall thing: After a findall the next find is starting from the top again?! Then a <find position="start" /> would be useless too because it would be ignored as you said?!

Actually, that was a Notausgang implementation and I had to copy it. After a Findall + another operation (delete, insert or replace), he sets the cursor to the top of the file. So I had to copy that action for maximum compatibility. Maybe leave that way and I should add that in the Honmod Format documentation I'm developing.

No, I'm saying this:

<find position="start">and a string here to be found</find>

The position attribute on that way will be ignored ^^

For not getting ignored, you have to use it without a content inside:

Just check out the documentation by Notu, he says: OR a string to be found OR the attribute position. If you put both, the cursor won't return to the top (unless in findall operation). I'm making a more detailed documentation about the Honmod format, to clarify those kind of questions.

This is strange, I can run both all_alt and no_alt without an error on Notausgangs ModMan. There is an issue with The JavaModMan (known) but this will be fixed in 0.9.6.
You said you reinstalled EVERYTHING... are you on Garena.HoN?

Two things I can think of
a) You have .s2z custom hero models (remove them)
b) You use .honmods changing string files

Could you download e.g. XXL Big Hero Guide and try to apply this mod?
If this doesn't work your Net.Framework is corrupted :(

i am not sure if you can identify if there is a certain hero or aspect of this mod that might effect the mario sound mod, but after updating to the newest alt hero mod i got this error.

"could not find string starting with "<frameevent frame="1" cmd=playsoundlinear sounds/death.wav 400 1800 .85"/>" as sough by line 38 of ......mariosoundmod.honmod....."

was just wondering if there is a certain hero skin or something that i might be able to disable or something to try and get both working. i also posted there as well.

At last, I have found the solution. The game does not display preview of pesti(bag with textures mb, she was like red and black texture), so when I disabled it in the "alt-models", modes applied successfully! Do not know whot called this problem, but next time I will also check in-store preview all of the alt-avatar)

i just tried this out...
for starters i had everything at same place (folder) Hon/game/mods right?
what i did was just removing the heromoldels 2.22v and ionic.dll to another folder at desktop and tried again... it simply worked out
btw u need to generate it then u move the heromodel.honmode back to Hon/game/mods fyi.
try it out and tell me if works..

I'd like to ask if it is possible to create a third border/mode for each Hero, which, when enabled, would pick the alternative model for the mod user automatically, but only the mod user.

It would be a hybrid mode - if the user has bought the skin, it will be automatically selected in the lobby. If a random player picks a Hero, whatever skin they pick is left unchanged. It would only be a macro to automatically select a skin.

Is this possible?

No, it's not possible. Or you change it for EVERYONE, or you change for NONE, no exceptions. I thought there was a way to do that, but I didn't manage to make it work.

There is no problem with the Manager actually, just found out:

Do you see those blank spaces you put over there. That's why it's throwing error.

Understand this. This mod allow you to overwrite heroes avatar in YOUR PC, not beyond that. So, let's say that you downloaded this and selected Witch Slayer to become Pimp Slayer (orange square) and you selected Predator to normal skin (blue square). So, let's say these four different cases after you join a game:

- A person pick Witch Slayer. In YOUR PC YOU will see him as Pimp Slayer. The other players will see as Witch Slayer.
- A person pick Wich Slayer and select Pimp Slayer. YOU WILL see him as Pimp Slayer, as long with everyone else.
- A person pick Predator. YOU will see him as the normal predator, as long with everyone else.
- A person pick Predator and select that Bunny Predator. YOU will see him as normal Predator, but the others will see him as Bunny Predator.

Is there a way to make only heroes I pick to show Alt skins, and heroes other people pick show the standard skin (or the Alt skin if they bought it)? In other words, is there a way to make this mod only work with heroes that I pick and disregard affecting heroes other people pick?

Dunno what you mean MohJ, but using this program, ONLY you and your pc will see the alt. The others players follow their picks(ofc if the are using the program as well, they will see ONLY their skins)

Problem fixed: updated hon once and tought it would be 2.0.30.1. In fact I had to update it 2 times to get it to 2.0.30.1 (I was just an idiot.)

I downloaded this just when the DDOS attack began. I installed only Valk Alt and Soul Reaper alt. Now I'm trying practice games but the heroes doesn't cast the skills, they just play the animation... and not only those two, but any hero. So far I have tested Slither (ult does work), Flint, Devourer, Flux and a few more.
This is a known issue with Cast Range Indicators. It only affects practice mode, not "real" games. More info is available in the appropriate thread; the issue is completely external to this Alt Models mod and thread.

Generate the Honmod
Open your Manager
Apply the mod (and any other mods you want)
Goto your /Heroes of Newerth/game folder
Find the file resources999.s2z
Copy it
Paste on the other /Heroes of Newerth/game folder

If you want, rename the file to resources#.s2z where # is any letter/number

Does any have the same problem as me?

When I use this mod and run a practice game, for instance I play Pyro alt. when I use his stun I cannot see the AoE indicator, but if I try with another hero, that is not alt. it shows. Notice: This problem is with all alternative heroes I picked with the mod.

Luckily, it doesnt affect normal games!

You probally have a Range Indicator or something. If you do, then don't expect for the pratice mode to work. If not, then try re-downloading the EXE and reapplying.

Hello,

I installed the program and selected all the avatars I wanted. Then I generated the honmod file, put it in the usual directory and when I apply the mod in "hon manager" i got this error :

I also tried to use the files 1 by 1 for each heroe, I got the same kind of error for each of them (return a problem of icon).

Any help?

Are you in Practice mode by any chance? if so maybe that's why, it doesn't let me cast when I'm in there also, but in a regular game, you're good to go.

The Robot is working for me in Practice mode, Range indicators is the reason for most things not working in practice mode, try it in a real game.

Well, your mod showed me a thing I haver never seen: Findall is a really weird operation. If no string is found, it doesn't throw error, it just jumps the next Replace/Insert/Delete operation without doing anything. That's a really bad behavior and it was completly not docummented. I must ask you to avoid using it. The problem is here:

Good for pointing that out, that shouldn't have happened anyways. The function that generates the code is doing something wrong, it should replace preglobalscale="1.00" and not 1.33.

Thats why all the flying couriers are so small -.-

Ah found it, used the array for ground instead of flying ...

Btw, is there a way to see the line that causes an error, its really hard to debug without, when everything works in ModMan :P
Activating Devmode in the options doesn't seem to help.

Actually, there is a way to see. I've implemented it in 0.9.7, but only for logging. I was analyzing logs to check out if it really was working, because I somewhat hacked the XML Parser for this to work. XML Parsers shouldn't have the option to retrieve the line number ^^ It will be added in 0.9.9 in the DeveloperMode, along with some other features e resources, along with semanthics analyzis and a special feature to load a mod from a folder, to help the developer without need to put his files in the game folder.

Using some of the courier.honmod's on the first page of this thread don't actually force a model but still displays the monkey courier. I disabled all other mods to test some of the alternate courier honmods.

Edit: When upgrading from the 2.27 versions to the 2.28 the alt couriers work now.

I've noticed a glitch with this mod. When someone uses Thunderbringer's alt avatar, when forcing the normal model, his hero portrait is not displayed. It's not on the scoreboard, MIA buttons, killboard, or even when the game loads. I'll try to test this some more, but I'm pretty sure it's not just me. If you could take a look I'd appreciate it.

Swiftblade-/(Sacchi)-Model is not willing to work for me. When I use the "HeroModels"-Tool, the Alts for Valkyrie and Silhouette don't work aswell, so I downloaded the single files of these 3. Works fine with Valk and Silhouette now, but Swiftblade Alt won't work still.
Anyone got a solution for this?

I can list several reasons why this won't ever happen. Just the most important ones:

.honmods can only have a maximum size of ~25MB.
Not every author wants his mod in an application.
With every new S2 alt model the author of such an application would have to edit the entities.
.honmod > .s2z (for updates, copyfile wouldn't be enough). You'd have to rewrite the .s2z using <editfile> and that's a lot of work.

Possible but only for ~10 heroes and a lot of work (like weeks).
Stick with .s2z or .honmods :p.

I'm having this guy's same problem, only it happens with POLLYWOG PRIEST's alt. No portrait, only a white circle. Honestly, I didn't pay attention in picking or loading phase so I don't know if it is just an in-game problem.

I downloaded version 2.29, and manually set all alt avatars to blue since I couldn't find what to do with the .png and the .xml you get from single packs, is it explained somewhere I didn't check?

Other than that, thanks for your work SaTo, I wouldn't play hon if it weren't for you.

EDIT: It does it with Moon Queen too.

EDIT 2: I found another bug: every time someone selects Wretched Hottie (with default models turned on), it continuously plays her death sound, and her "knocked out" animation.

IF you get HeroModels + Ionic.Zip.Dll then you get the right files cause this is an application not a mod.

What you gonna do is:
-Make a new folder(1) and put the 2 files above in it.
-Open the new folder(1) and run the HeroModels file and choose which avata you want to use in game.
-After choosing "wisely" you need to press on the Generate at the bottom of the program.
-Give it some time and when its done open the new folder(1) again and you should find a honmod file newly created.
-Move the honmod file to Game/Mods folder and use honmodman to apply it!
-The end + profit.

Thats the best way i can explain it. Cant be clearer cause of my bad english. GL

I'm confused, does this mod make it so if someone plays a normal pestilence and you chose the lady bug version, you will always see a ladybug pestilence? Or does it simply make it so you don't have to click on the normal swiftblade, then have to wait till the texture menu pops up to pick the sachi version. If it is the second one, well done :D. Because when I'm playing and I have to do last minute swaps with friends, I don't have time to change into different skins, I wish you could just make it automatic that the game knows you want Sachi Swiftblade or Ladybug Pestilence.

You have to think outside the box ;)

I can be done in 2-3 hours if there is a will. You do not need to use .honmods!!! use .s2z for custom models. The program will work like until now for standard S2 stuff and it will also allow you to manage internally .s2z files for custom models.

The tool is perfect for that! You have already the idea for selecting alt avatars already: the modality you use for selecting from alt couriers. For the custom models, when you select one, the program instead of creating a honmod file, will just add an .s2z to the right folder. Nothing fancy, but provides us with a graphical tool to mange our avatars.

Additionally if every custom avatar will come with some king of short xml with info regarding name, description, icon and .s2z file, once programmed for one, you will never have to update anything.

Imho a great tool like this can become so much useful for the community with only this small addition. For sure it will become a must just like the mod-manager.

My .exe file doesn't work. When I press Options I get a looooong error message on Swedish, my native language and it asks me to either Continue or Exit.

If I press Continue my window freezes and I have to exit the process with Ctrl+alt+del.
If I press Exit, well... the program shuts down. Not doing a thing.

If I download the "all alt avatar" mod for mod manager. The manager just says

No complicated things like an auto update needed. The users should download the alt skins they want by themselves from the forums as .s2z files (like they did until now). The improvement your program could make is to have a central graphical interface from where you can select/deselect what alt models you want to use.

I do not know how you coded your interface but here ~1 hour quick and more than satisfactory solution (without any config files):

- for every .s2z file found under HoN/Game/Mods/Textures add an extra choice for that hero in your interface (like you do for couriers), (grey placeholder icons will be enough :) ). When the user selects/deselects this alt model, copy/delete the s2z file to/from the HoN/Game folder.

This way your program will function like until now with the exception that it will be possible to use it for custom models management also.

I can play now, matchmaking and stuff with different kind of alt avatars (I downloaded each of them on the first post, one by one) but some aren't working. Examples is Armadon, Amun-Ra, Thor thunderbringer

Myrmidon and devourer seems to work though.

I have tried it for the magebane file and it works like a charm! Thanks a lot for implementing this.

My question is... how do determine wich s2z files are hero models? This (http://forums.heroesofnewerth.com/showthread.php?t=81567) is not recognized for example.

Suggestion... for 50 models+ the .../game directory gets cluttered. If you have active only 10 out of these 50 I would rather put the unused ones into a special folder /hon/game/mods/textures or something similar.

I suspected he's looking for hero icons :(. That will skip HD textures like these (http://forums.heroesofnewerth.com/showthread.php?t=281447). Maybe there is a way to add them also?

This file can't wotk the way i detect a model.

1) search for "heroes/" folder in zip
2) get heroname from folder "heroes/*name*"
3) extract all tga's to temp
4) parse "hero.entity" for the right icon
5) convert icon to needed size/type
6) delete the other images

Your file doesnt have a hero.entity/icon so it wont be detected.
But those files should be rare i think?!

For the crowded folder, its easier for me to parse only one folder with files. Dont think im going to change that. And maybe people would wonder where their files have gone.

It comes from the filename the download is *.zip if I rename it to the right *.s2z it works. (Since many models are in .zip format and .zip and .s2z are equivalent...can you parse .zip's also? So we do not have to rename them? :D)

For the Models without an icon... AstraZak's Skins and PogS do not touch the icons for their HDs version they provide. Since you have a /hero folder in .s2z file, it would be possible and easy to manage these ones also. Instead of the missing icon put a ? icon (or better a Grey ? with transparent background over the default hero portrait?)

What is also missing is a short tooltip description (filename without the leading resources) when you hover over an icon. Even for the standard S2 ones, a tooltip with the name would be nice. Make it an option maybe?

Yeah tooltips would be really usefull now.

Sadly transperancy isn't the strong side of VB, will see what I can do about the missing icon.

If you have ZIP files instead of .s2z/.honmod ->

Your browser renames the files into .s2z.zip / honmod.zip.

I downloaded a .honmod and I don't know what to do with the files (mod.xml, icon.png). (http://forums.heroesofnewerth.com/showthread.php?p=1527116#Beginners%20Confusion)
I downloaded a .honmod but it's a 'modname.honmod' ZIP-file and I can't rename it! (http://forums.heroesofnewerth.com/showthread.php?p=1527116#microsoft)


PS: The Java ModManager doesn't care whether it's .honmod.zip or .honmod.
