I know this seems like an item people don't like, but is it really that bad? I tend to use squishy casters and it would seem like a good item to me...especially if a swiftblade starts his ult on me or some other hero like pharaoh traps me with mummies....I'm sure there's other items that are better but it definitely sounds intriguing to me to be able to return 100% damage when activated

I think it's excellent on legionnaire for his taunt

It's useful on targets that are going to focused heavily, like Defiler/Torturer/Soul Reaper, and it actually possesses pretty good attributes too. I don't like it on Lego because of the huge +Armor bonus from Taunt.
It's really a player specific item, but I've seen it used to good effect before on the heroes mentioned (and in decent games too).

Ah ok, thanks. I use torturer on occasion so I'll have to give it a shot. I use to love going for the sac heart but i'm not so sure I like it as much without the life regen from the charges that was removed.

Sac Heart is still great on Torturer.
Barbed Armor is good on targets that don't want to be focused. It's not necessarily great on targets that do want to be focused (Axe, Tanks that carry Mock, etc)

Is the sac heart still good on tort? In a battle, I'm usually not around long enough to drain a high level tort's mana....the usefulness use to be the health regen with lots of charges...without that I feel like i'll need to back off more to recuperate my health.

Unfortunately, the damage return duration is both short and modified by armor.
That is, the returned damage is first modified by your armor (ex say cut by 33%) then modified by your enemies armor (ex another 33%) so if the enemy does 1000 damage you take 600 damage, the enemy will only take 400.
I guess it's better than nothing, but aside from everything else it's somewhat hard to use.
It does seem like it could be usable on legionare, however, as you force the enemies to attack you.

So true damage means it's unmodified by armor on both the attacker and the recipient? Also, can the barbed armor actually cause the attacker to kill themselves if the damage returned is greater than their remaining HP?

This is an amazing protective ability on Hellbringer. Life Void + Barbed Armor and you reduce the damage you take by 50% while dealing it in full back to your attacker.

Use it on yourself just before soul reaper ultis for extra lolz.
It does prevent some characters from being focused, its a bit sutiational and a bit underrated, but its up to you I guess.

what happens if you stack 3 of them on the same char? do they all have the same cooldown or something?

You can deffinitely die from it. I (stupidly) used pyro's ult on a soulstealer with barbed armour and got owned.

I would say Barbed Armor is the best for Legionaire, i usually get Portal Key, jump into a pack with mobs and a hero, use taunt, use barbed wire, and terrify, the damage is so immense i'll be able to execute within the time taunt expires
this works perfectly endgame aswell

Why is this? I saw a HB use it earlier and i wasnt entirly sure why, he was a good player though.

Life void+ Barbed armor. Now, think it for a moment.
So let's say I'm Torturer and have the barbed armor....scout targets me with his ultimate...as soon as I see this i activate my barbed armor....does a ranged shot like scout's ultimate still deflect 100% pure damage back to him?

Lets say it hits you for 600 damage before mitigation. Your personal 25% magical damage reduction reduces it to 450.
You take 450, scout takes 450, scout dies if his hp is 450 or below.
Awesome item on Nymphora, makes them a lot less likely to target your squishy ass :(

Is this correct or is it 450 dmg to you and 600 dmg to Scout? I thought you returned true damage, before mitigation now?

You return the amount of damage you receive after your personal mitigation as true damage.
So before, you get hit by a 600 damage nuke and its reduced to 450, so you lose 450 hp, then that 450 is dealt to scout, then FURTHER reduced to 338 health lost. So you lose 450 and scout lost 338.
All that got changed is that now you take 450 and scout takes 450.

Random scenarios:
Scout has 1500 hp
"Hero X" has 2000 hp, and 30% Magic reduction
Scouts ulti is percentage based, so 30% magic damage +250 of "Hero X" = 850 prior to mitigation. 595 Damage dealt to "Hero X" = 595 True Damage reflected? or does the calculation of 30% (Scouts HP) +250 - "Hero X" Mitigation?
Soul Reaper has 1400 HP
"Hero Y" has 2200 HP
Hero Y currently has 1200 HP (~1% outside of his execution range) Soul reaper has 1100 HP, if he was to ulti what would the result be? Does this result in Hero Y being reduced to low hp whilst Soul Reaper remains half full due to the scaling of his ulti, or does he take the full amount of damage dealt to Hero Y?
Basically, do percentage based attacks deal the exact amount of damage the target took back as true, or do the percentage scaling effects carry through?

Nothing scales through, they're two separate damage packets. You take so and so damage, that damage amount is then returned in a new packet.
