View Full Version : [Discuss] Best item for Plague Rider
I played 1 game with Plague Rider thus far and it's been ages since I played Lich. Totally dominated with 1 core item: Staff of the Master. 550 plague damage and 60 sec Ultimate cool down GG. Any other GG items/builds?
here is the way to go:
you are not playing a carry hero, you are suuporting your team. There are 2 ways of playing that hero, you either go with carry on your lane to help him getting creepkills. You imply do that, by denying creeps with you spell, and harras the other heros with ur nuke. playing him this way, you need to make sure, you get some HP due to fortified bracelets, and WARDS, to help ur team out. Your spells are strong enough, if the rest of ur team has an easy time. If you got money, go for astrolabe.
2nd way to play, is solo mid.
the first item you get is Astrolabe (merkansm). You go for the Post Haste (boots of travel) next, so you can mass gank on lanes.
If you get up more money, go for the staff of the master, or for Totem of Kuldra (guinsoo).

^ That. Skip Post Haste if you're not dominating the early-mid game though. It's extremely powerful through the ganking phase, but once you reach the mid-late game there's limited reason for Lich to be porting around the map.

A couple of fortified bracelets, power supply, astrolabe, and new steamboots. After that, buy all of the observation wards your team needs, carry some health potions for emergency patching up, keep a tp handy at all times. If you're making surplus money go for a totem of kuldra.
Very different compared to other Lich's I've seen in DotA. I like the perspective you guys have on him.
-Feeding your carry instead of getting kills with ult.
-Using farm gold on support items that are mere luxuries to a carry
-Mid-Late game survive/support
Do I have that right?

I usually just go two fort bracers, steamboots, astrolabe for the early/mid phases. A bottle as well if I have to go mid.
After that I either get a SoTM or a Totem of Kuldra depending on whether we need more damage or the extra disable.
(Wards whenever it's my turn to buy them.)
After that? If I'm obscenely rich(which ultimately I shouldn't be, but he's a very easy hero to farm with);
Restoration Stone.
Oh how funny it is watching them run..

Basically. Lich is a classic support hero, so he plays team ***** almost 100% of the time. Early game you're ganking with your nuke, keeping mana supplied with your 3rd skill. Mid-late game he sits back and casts armor buff on the entire team, supporting with astrolabe for a huge armor boost. Of course, you ult whenever you have two or more heroes away from most creeps and nuke to clear creeps and slow heroes.

Is sacrificial stone a viable option after your core (astrolabe and stuff) + staff of master + totem?
Frostwolfs skull + restoration stone, heart and stuff all are options I guess when you manage to get a sickload of gold.

Sacrificial Stone seems excessive considering we have Extinguish to keep us at full mana and Astrolabe to provide health and buffs.

He really only needs 2 core items to be worthwhile: Astrolabe and Staff of the Master. For boots, get Steamboots early and then swap them for Post Haste if the game drags on too long. Get some form of disable, preferably Totem of Kuldra. And of course, wards. Played properly, Plague Rider can be strong as hell, and you won't die very often. Then you can consider getting Bound Eye if the opposing team has Scout/NH/Assassin's Shroud.

You should never farm that much on this hero, all you need is blink/ steamboots, 2 fort bracers and lots of wards.

Agreed. "Item independence" is the catchphrase for him.
Although I'm just wondering, what's the blink for?

You need following:
Steamboots, HP(optional), Astrolabe (optional mby another support gets it), STAFF OF THE MASTER!!! This is a must and cannot be discussed. In teamfights his ulti is the only crucial move and you got to boost this for optimum performance. Wards (optional but lich is mainly ward *****).
Dont say he can't farm a staff of the master 4300 gold is not much + steamboots is nothing for core. And astrolabe is also farmable you can farm that the first 12-13 mins in lane or so. And after wards you'll build up SotM until lvl 16.

Frost field plate + ult = wtfpwned
Seriously though, its a good support item that synergizes really well with your powerful ult. If you are farming really well then get a port key for a perfect frost + ult combo.

Same thing it's for on any non-initiator--catching up to enemy heroes to cast your spells (especially ult in Plague Rider's case) at the right time, and occasionally escaping.
