View Full Version : Most unkillable tank?

Which tank is neigh unkillable? I know that I'll be useless to the team but I just want to try this out for my own curiosity.
Is it Electrician with his Mana Shield? Jereziah with his Magic Immunity? Zephyr with his Wind Shield? Armadon with his Armordillo. Devourer with his Cadaver Armor? Chronos with his Rewind?
Basically which hero can survive a 5 man gank that instantly chain stuns you for 30 seconds or more?

I would have to prefer zephyr, with windsheild he's hard to hit, and with tornadoes + mock no one will go near him.
I think Electrician with many bloodstone charges would take the prize.
Devourer if they let you farm for 2 hours to get mass STR (+he always gets hood).
Not Jeraziah, purge -> kill.

Zephyr IMO.

09-22-2009, 06:09 AM
like any tank they can all be unkillable if left to farm, the real question is, which tank is easiest to farm with and i'd say zephyr, his cyclones just add to his ability to last hit, and once you get a mock you will ALWAYS get the last hit and farming other **** is easier

people who say jer or zephyr dont know about purge imo. elect is prolly the best assuming he sjut used his aoe move on creeps or heroes for the more armour. proberbly the msot tank would be elect

There are so many categories of tanks.. i dont think you can really say who is the best tank, but i would say axe since he is the tank i enjoy playing the most :D

Without any more than regular tank farm, I would say Accursed, though a skilled team can counter his Ulti pretty well. With a lot of farm, Electrician.
Farming with Zephyr is a LOT more easy, but I dont think he is tougher than Elec, he is just more annyoing because of his massive AoE.

What about an Electrician with:
Sacrificial Heart
Frostfield Plate
Null Stone
Barrier Idol
Behemoth's Heart
Steamboots
Are there better items for this tank? What about Mock of Brilliance for some AoE damage and Snake Bracelet for 25% evasion?

For electrician to be OP you need that sac stone to have some charges as well. To have charges you need to kill heroes. To actually kill with electrician can be tricky, since you'll be doing what, 40 per second, while gripping the enemy, and your team mates usually get the last hit. To fix this you'd need to buy codex to last hit the enemy before your team does. To solo a hero you could buy totem of kuldra and storm spirit to ensure that the enemy doesn't run away while your grip recharges (grip-nuke-cyclone-hex-ulti-grip-rinse-and-repeat-until-dead).

Electrician's Mana Shield means he has the most EHP, so he'd be the best tank.
Accursed is the only one who might match him, solely because his Ulti means that he gets a few second grace period when nobody can damage him (and let's be honest, they're likely to **** up and damage him a bit, particularly if you pop it manually before they expect it to kick in).

Usually in my team there's someone playing a disabler who can make Accursed stand pretty much still for the duration of his ulti. I prefer Succubus myself, it's just so enjoyable to see the blue fire light up, then make him sleep, and then bite him dead after the flames go away.

My vote is electrician... even after you just get a Totem of Kundra and Frost Plate it can take a team of 5 a long time to kill him.... I find after I get these items people just straight up don't bother attacking me...
If we're talking about straight up hit absorbtion I'd say Electrician... but zephyr comes very close second and furthermore Zephyr can deal a load oh damage as well... Though electrician has one helluva disable(s)

Electrician. Most tanks have less useful abilities, and no good team is going to focus a tank who doesn't do anything in team-fights. However, Electrician has early-game (Energy Absorption) and late-game (Electric Shield) tanking abilities and two very strong support skills.

Armadon simply because his third skill also reduces magic damage that is coming from behind and the sides.

Uhhh no, a good armadon will always be aware of what sides he's being attacked from and will micro accordingly to minimize any damage done to him while spamming spines/goo.

I'm still a noob, but generally I've found mana to only be moderately useful. If you hit 3 or more mobs with his AOE or 1 or more heroes you'll actually *gain* mana. His mana shield should only be used as a permanent toggle at rank 3 and 4 though, and a situational escape ability at rank 1 and 2.
I've been getting Marchers, Frostfield and Sustainer as priority and it's worked out pretty well. If they have a lot of casters I'll usually grab Shaman Headdress as well.

Well it technically deals 195 damage per hit at a rate of 6.67 strikes per second
For a total DPS of 1300.65
Electrician has base 11.62 Armor at lvl 25.
Lets assume he'll probably have another 15 Armor from Frostfield Plate and probably 5 Armor from Steamboots. If he's completed his Totem of Kuldra that's another 1.4 Armor.
That's a total of 33.02 Armor (66.5% Damage Reduction)
Turning that 1300.65 DPS into 435.72 DPS
Throw in a Snake Bracelet and that takes the damage down to 326.79
Electric Shield will turn that into:
163.4 DPS and 122.5 Mana Lost Per Second
You'd be able to survive this for some time given enough regen and HP but not likely a full minute :P
Edit: Oh if you had Vanguard it's a rough 28 damage reduction on the base damage (taking it to 167) and you would be taking 139.9 DPS and 104.9 Mana Loss.

Electrician probably. Remember one game with him that dragged to 78 minutes or something sick like that. I had Phase Boots, frostfield, bloodstone with 6-7 charges, pre nerf heart, headdress and HotBL. I could tank the entire opposing team for 30-40 seconds before I had to start retreating. With elecs third skill (name eludes me atm) I had close to 70-80% reduction on both magic and physical damage. Mana shield with a lardass mana pool and both brutal HP and Mana reg made me pretty much unkillable.

Just conducted a very unscientific test at the well in practice mode.
all heros lvl 25, items used: heart, barrior idol, wingbow, frostfield plate, daemonic breastplate.
I quickly just tossed a bunch of survivability items on them all, some of them are suboptimal for the heroes in question and the idol is useless (bar the reg) for this particular test, but I basically took the first items I found in the list.
Well barrage contest winner is.....
ARMADON! 1:09 (with back towards well)
2: Zephyr 0:56
3: Elec 0:39
Electrician was definitely king of the hill until his mana pool was depleted. With enough reg elec is the toughest tank, armadon with his back turned is best versus sustained damage though. :)
Edit* Practice mode can make for some fun retardation. I made another lvl 25 elec, charged him up with a 96 charge bloodstone and totem of kuldra for regen. Then frostfield, breastplate, HotBL and wingbow. 96 charges of bloodstone + kuldra made his mana undrainable. With 5 prenerf hearts and enough charges on the bloodstone he should be able to tank the well indefinitely, same with pudge given enough str. I got him to 1500 something str in practice mode before.

What is more important to Electrician? Mana, Mana Regen, HP, HP Regen or Armor?
Usually NOT mana regen, because of the way his aoe returns it to him. I prioritize HP > Armor > Mana > HP Regen >>>>> Mana Regen. The only time you should be getting mana regen is if you're going for sac stone (which could be fairly often), or if you need a Totem of Kuldra
Mephs
09-23-2009, 06:40 PM
Most definitely mana regen, his mana shield practically triples his EHP, his hp regen will naturally be pretty good with normal tanking items, but if he runs OOM he's as squishy as just about any other hero. His AOE does return mana, but with a sac stone/totem included his tanking efficiency goes way up.

Ha, ha!
This reminds me of a game I was in - it dragged for a while and it was the stage of team fights, in which me managed to push their lanes quite nicely.
For some reason EVERYBODY kept focusing on me during the final pushes while my team was just nuking the **** out of the enemies - I was just standing there and auto-attacking their raxes. ;-)
Then they respawned, my Ult of course was ready again, considering the times at this stage of the game and they did EXACTLY the same thing over and over again - we basically wiped out their whole base without having to back off a single time since literally no one was getting damaged besides me (well - me neither, since all the damage was negated later ;-).
At one point I even got cocky and typed on all chat "I don't think you know how my ultimate works" but they didn't take the hint...
Well, it was a pub game, so it doesn't really matter but was still funny as hell. ^^
I'd say Zephyr is the best tank in pubs since people are usually too stupid and let him farm in the Jungle with impunity while never pushing hard enough before he is bloated with gear. Electrician is the better tank overall but in pub games the speed at which Zephyr becomes unkillable by the usually not-so-skilled enemies is ridiculous.

09-24-2009, 10:14 PM
Electrician with 3 hearts, a vanguard, a barrier idol, and a bloodstone with 99 charges will tank better than any hero in the game. (haha)
Zephyr is kind of like a bloodhunter, albeit slightly weaker in the laning stage. Against dual melee/single ranged heroes, he has complete lane control with only a stout shield, due to the fact that it doesn't matter if he gets harrassed, he can eat tornadoes for hp and mana... the strongest tank with the strongest early game phase would have to be legionnaire(considering you don't play him like an idiot and jungle all game).
The MOST unkillable tank, period(in a semi-reasonable game) would be a magebane with a SoL, Heart, and armor bonuses from allies and wingbow(just mentioning HP/armor items)... it gives him crazy EHP, especially if he is life stealing. Sure heart's regen doesn't really work anymore, but it's great when you get nuked down and don't have time to go to base.. stand around with your 70hp/s regen and be a walking fountain. It makes sense, pair the best EHP items with the best MHP(made this up, magic HP) passive in the game(PASSIVE, arachna doesn't count) and give that hero a blink and 100% lifesteal, and you have the most unkillable tank.
Endweaver
09-25-2009, 05:52 AM
Dude your sig's distubring XD... @ topic .. Well we have to admit that when it comes to tanking, passive dominates over everything else because you wont have to worry about running out of mana and all. So hat's off to Armodon at being the best tanker in HoN. However a hero's tanking ability goes to waste if people dont know how to play and groom them effectively till the mid-end period of a game. 'Nuff said! ;)

What part of "ignores evasion" did you not understand?
It ignores evasion. I don't know how much more simply that can be explained. When you have a savage mace, ALL ATTACKS ignore evasion, not just the proc.
On another note: Nullfire Blade removes all tanking capability from Zephyr. Zephyr is not even a competitor for best tank. 30% evasion is in no way what-so-ever better than 40% constant reduction from Armadon, or 50% with mana shield from Electrician.

The good old classic Centaur.. in dota.. tobad he isnt in HoN :(
in HoN is Zephyr with the right items.
I can't believe no one mentions predator. 200+ games and I can't recall my team having trouble actually killing an electrician (granted we just ignore him in team fights since most players only build him as a tank). Zephyr always gets purged and I rarely see people do well enough with him early game to be a threat later on.
I can recall probably dozens of games where the end game predator was simply unkillable. With the standard lifesteal build even without end game items like behemoth heart he just lives forever. I've seen whole teams hitting him with everything they have, but the magic immunity just lasts too long. If the predator has a shrunken head or someone like jereziah giving him shields it is even worse. Only way to counter it is to scatter so he can't actually attack and gain health (but this can be impossible if he is in your base and there are creeps or people all over).
Yes, we all know the counter is to stun/sheep/whatever when the immunity wears off, but his goal and his team's is to make sure that during that very narrow window you aren't able to do that. Ends up with half of us spamming sheep stick or a stun on him praying his magic immunity will wear off.
Similarly I can't remember dying anytime after I've completed the lifesteal build as predator.
No one mentions Kraken anything? I'd seriously say that he can be a serious tide turner here. Since he can seperate a whole team, and totaly kill of half of there team thanks to the ulti.
