Long have we gathered in Item Suggestion, but we have yet to see any results come from all the effort put into these suggestions by a growing number of players.


As far as I know, the suggestion forum for items has been open ever since the game was in beta, and good, solid suggestions are piling up both in the normal item suggestion forum, and in popular, where thousands of votes have been cast. It is sad to see so many solid suggestions and effort by players being completely ignored, and that's why I propose a petition (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petition)


"It's about time for a new item".

It doesn't even have to be a player based idea. All I'm hoping for are new items.


So if you have ever looked at an item here, which you thought would be a nice addition to the game, or possibly have made a suggestion yourself, I invite you to vote yes on this proposition, so hopefully it will get the attention it deserves from our dear S2 staff, and one day they will add a player based item. Because at this moment we are down to about 2 item added per year. Both from Dota as far as I know.


Of course I understand we don't want bad or overpowered items in the game, which is why there's a popular part of the item suggestions, for good, solid suggestions, and of course tons of testing. Chalice and striders are good examples of this. Took alot of balancing, and are now nice additions to the game. No reason why more items couldn't be. What I am trying to say is that although there are bad suggestions, it's sad to see players spend time and effort when it's being ignored completely. This part of the forum has been around since beta, which is years of suggestions which have yielded no results. There has not been a single player based item in the whole time of Heroes of Newerth.


We will use this thread as a written petition, which I invite you all to post in and vote yes on.

Update!

I spoken to Nome and he insured me they are working on new items as we speak, it's just taking a while since items are harder to balance! So hopefully we have gotten some attention with this petition, and told S2 that we'd love new items. Me personally more then new heroes.

Anyway, with 700+ votes now, giving about 90% yes on wanting more items, hopefully S2 will get a nice feel of the community opinion. That yes, we'd love more items! Soon!

btw. id much like to see a few new items instead of heroes, so that people can at least choose between builds, builds are the most static thing in hon atm. I want more countering of items, not only heroes.

They have added more than one item per year. I think the current pace of adding content is good. Heroes and items. Balance could be a bit better, but thats not for this topic.

That doesn't even make sense. How would the poll ever get misleading when there are 2 clear choices? And did it seem like i only wanted yes voters to post here? Pretty sure it doesn't say that anywhere, or is even implied.

And you should be allowed to think 1 item per year is fine. That's why i gave a "no" option for poeple like you. But 90% of people disagree with you, and that's the point of this thread. Poeple want new items. Maybe you don't, but everyone else does.

The problem with new items though is that they impact the game more heavily than a new Hero does (assuming it isn't another Old engineer lolol). Just look at Chalice and Striders, huge impacts on the game because of their implementation. I'm all for new items but they better damn well be balanced. :o

I couldn't agree more. But at the same time we can't just stop adding them. There will be a couple of game where we will be annoyed by new items, but look at chalice and striders now? In my opinion they are both fine additions to the game.

I think that an item that includes snake bracelet would be good; The only time people ever purchase one is when they are buying wingbow.. More evasion in matches would be fun to see.

instead of new items i would like to see some nerfs and buffs for current items. There is some equipement that players never use because other items are just better. So why add new ones then when they can just rework existing ones to be better or more balanced.

I think we need a new item, however it is an important decision.
An item needs to be added that is useful, but doesn't change the game. There should be no new item that is baseline. So no item like bkb, frostburn, butterfly, etc. Generally common items are game defining, and would require rebalancing.

I couldn't agree more. See how game changing striders and chalice were before their nerfs. But we can't let the possibility of a couple of not so balanced games stop us from making new items.

Chalice and Striders are good examples. They did make the game a little unbalanced, but after some rebalancing, and now i think they are a welcome addition to HoN.

A new item would be nice. Maybe a good tank item for supports or at least make staff viable on more heroes, since that usually makes for a good survivability item but whenever pyro/witch grab it theres not much they can do with it.

Don't forget though they have added a few items considering spellshards, blood chalice, and striders.

Also, maybe the "Dev heroes" option, could be changed to "Development Content": So that this would now include items in development, so you may choose if you wish to play games with or without any new items added to the game.

That's why you have testing, SBT's, Dev mode, so on.

Chalice and Striders were good examples of this. Awful when they first came, but after further testing, and some balance changes, they are welcome additions to the game. No reason why other items can be that too?

Make hatchet go into Runed Axe, since it's gotten only on Melee Heroes that need farm, makes perfect sense.
Lower a bit the cooldown on the treecutting thing, and increase the creep damage bonus a bit and it's perfect.

Please do not derail this thread with items suggestions. There is a good reason why hatchet is not sellable and can not be upgraded in some way.

Giving S2 a poll result that shows that a lot of people would like to see a new item implemented would not force them to do anything, but supply them with information that could help them decide what to focus on next. And if the poll showed that the majority of players voted "no" instead, it would be just as helpful, so don't be afraid to vote. We can only win.

We are at 450+ votes now, which in my opinion is enough to make the outcome of the poll useful and make it give a clear indication of what the general thoughts are in the HoN community. 90% of players who voted on this poll said they'd like more items. S2 creations or player based ideas.

So hopefully based upon 450+ votes. 90% of those being yes. S2 will consider making some new items in the game.

I don't know if they actually do see this petition, or have heard about it, but i hope they will listen to their community and add items.

Hopefully they have seen it. Would almost be pushing it to PM one of them to check out this thread.

Voted against I dont want tu rush s2 to do something so hard to balance afterwards.
look at items like striders and spellshard that made the metagame go from farm feast to gank oriented and sol's bulwark to make it more pushing strat. But I do agree that it would be nice if s2 would commit to port an item from these forums every like 6 month and create the rest themselfs. A new item effects the game MUCH MORE then a new hero. You simply dont rush good things.
