Countering Plague Rider?

I just played my first game against this hero today, and I was wondering if there were some good methods to dealing with him.

I was Pollywog Priest, solo mid against him and even though I was outlaning him quite heavily (around 3 last hits and 2 denies/minute), I still found it quite difficult.

He has a near-unlimited mana pool, which he derives from denying you exp
He has a fairly strong nuke, especially against your typical low-hp solo mids
He has an ultimate that is bound to hit you at least once simply by virtue of his slow nuke

Maybe I wasn't aggressive enough with my jolts, but I didn't want to push my lane any more than his skill-free denies already did (I was constantly pushing past river).

Any advice?

It's hard to be aggressive against a Plague Rider, as he was a great solo in DotA too (yay Lich).

Get a Mana Battery against him, but it's still not enough to nullify his nuke harass

try to place your wards on top of him and then sheep + hold untill he dies

get the magic damage items fully upgraded.

dont attack unless you got creeps near so they can take some of the bouncing ultimate attacks and never try to catch him with 2 ppl alone.

Remember, Plague Rider does have very low HP, so he is vulnerable to nukes and Strength Heroes. As long as you get a stun on him and quickly rush him with nukes, he will die soon enough. He is tough though. He set his ulti on me when I was the War Beast on 100 HP. I spent two minutes running away from a massive blob of death. Everyone stopped playing just to watch me die.

Oh yeah since you're pushing the lane & soloing mid, it's advisable to get a Bottle & get runes to counter his harassment

He's a strong solo, but he's fragile and if you can bottle runes and perma-nuke him right back you should end up sending him back to the fountain more than you yourself end up going back. (Not too advisable with Pollywog as it would cause mass pushing, but with Thunderbringer or Soulstealer it works out decently.)

Play a bottle TB with wards.

Pollywog isn't a great solo and is better off in a lane. He can't take much damage and his Jolt is too mana costly with not enough damage, his other two skills do nothing for soloing until you get your ult at lvl 6. But if you're solo you've probably lvl'd your Jolt instead of your holds so it's just bad overall.

Like an earlier poster wrote, stay next to creeps when the chain frost ( ult ) comes out. Basically like you would vs a bad swiftblade ult.

Stay away from creeps you mean, you want it to jump less on you and the AoE effect on each jump to completely miss you. You pretty much do the opposite of what you would do for a Swiftblade ulti.

By fix do you mean they'll just make it faster? Or is there something else wrong with him?

Get your courier and bottle, and keep your HP high. Plague rider lose his strength as time goes by

Ha, yeah. Even though the ult seems pretty easy to beat (in a variety of simple ways), I feel like it's going to bounce way less or something next patch.

isn't his ult physical? anyways, in a game i just played, using a bkb, stops his ult cold, no more bounces and whatnot.

Felt like me in DotA, Lich would easily outlane Rhasta because Rhasta is even more fragile than Lich.

Non-DotA terms: Plague Rider is fragile but Pollywog Priest is more fragile.

So with this in mind, I can see how two equally skilled players with these heroes would result in a win for the Plague Rider.

IMO solution is always ganking. :P

His Ult's projectile speed is quite slow. If you see it heading for you, move away from targets it can bounce to and it won't bounce.

Pollywog is a pretty piss-poor solo mid, I'd agree with that. Played mid because no one else would (Succubus turning down solo mid O_o)

I don't play him a lot, so I find it nigh-impossible to land ward contains on anyone without cyclone stick. I tried a standard Ward/Shackles at 6, but he just Ulti'd and Nuked me once and I was already dead before I could toss that Level 1 Morph down. Against a low-hp solo mid, his ulti doesn't even need to bounce to shut you down at 6.

Well PR's ulti is quite strong early and mid, as a solo mid vs him you should call for gank before you or him hit lvl 6. have a good earlygame initator or stunner come to mid. Stun him and nuke his ass and the u go:

to counter lich... err i mean plague rider. get any hero. now get a mobility item. such as dagger,lothars, or force staff :D.

now. use your mobility item to get near him.
now since you are side by side with him. he can only unleash "frost nova". and because lich has low hp and bad attack speed. you can kill him with your nukes and normal attacks.

note that if chain is used. you know very well it only hits once, when there's no bounce :D. so its a good tactic.
