View Full Version : [SOLVED] Can only hear in game sounds and NOTHING ELSE

The title is pretty self explanatory... But let me go into further detail.

Here are a couple of the issues I am having...

1.) I can't hear any sounds in the menu or lobby whatsoever including the announcer. So I can't hear the countdown when the game starts or even something as simple as when you click on something in the menu and a window opens.
2.) I can't hear anyone talking in the game even though I can see their microphones being used. People can hear me though I just can't hear them.
3.) I can hear the sound effects of the characters and the world but I can't hear the announcer yet again.

I don't know what else to say really. I have attached the following photos hoping that maybe someone can figure out what my problem is. If there is anything else you need me to do please let me know. Thank you for taking the time to help me.

Were you ever able to hear any sound? If so, when did it stop? And have you tried pressing either ctrl+s or ctrl+m in game?

I just bought my Alienware computer about a month ago and installed HoN three days ago and did not hear any sounds except for the ones I mentioned.

I went in the game and tried ctrl + s and it muted EVERY sound. So I can't even hear the in game sound effects as far as creep and hero attacks and water sounds go. I tried ctrl + m and noticed that it is supposed to mute the music. I don't hear ANY music to begin with so it doesn't mute anything. Could this be a clue as to why I am having sound issues?

Could you upload a console.log to http://tools.heroesofnewerth.com/upload.php please?

It might just be that your music volume is simply too low.

Can you post that panel in the first screenshot with the "playback" tab selected?

Here is my console log... http://tools.heroesofnewerth.com/view.php?key=14b749b554b5a303&action=download and the view link http://tools.heroesofnewerth.com/view.php?key=14b749b554b5a303&action=view

And here is a snapshot of my playback setup...

Wow, that's a LOT of "Assembled snapshot from frame". Please try reinstalling the game and upload a new console.log if it persists.

Okay I am going to uninstall the game right now. Crossing fingers!!!

AllStarNoob
03-15-2011, 02:29 PM
I am downloading the 2.0.17 honclient right now. I have the 2.0.15 client but would you recommend I install the newest version?

AllStarNoob
03-15-2011, 02:58 PM
Nope it didn't work. Same issues. I am going to try reinstalling the Alienware graphics drivers and uninstalling the newest ati amd drivers and see if that may be the issue and if it's not then I have no idea what's going on and hope we can get to the bottom of this issue.

AllStarNoob
03-15-2011, 03:11 PM
Nope didn't work. Still have the SAME issues. Any other suggestions?

New one...

Your game version says 1.0.17. Could you please update to the newest version and play a game, then upload the log?

AllStarNoob
03-15-2011, 04:54 PM
How can it say that if I downloaded the 480mb windows 2.0.17 version directly from your website and installed that one? It makes no sense... Also when I log into the game it asks me to update the game and nothing happens.

I will uninstall the game again and see if that fixes the issue again but I have the right version...

AllStarNoob
03-15-2011, 05:01 PM
Okay I look in my programs and see that I have the 1.0.16 version which makes absolutely no sense and then log into the game and as you can see I installed the 2.0.17 version and still get prompted to update to a newer version and nothing happens. Look on the bottom right...

The newest version is 2.0.18: http://dl.heroesofnewerth.com/HoNClient-2.0.18.exe

AllStarNoob
03-15-2011, 05:06 PM
Alright I will download that version now it will take me 25 minutes. But when I clicked on the download link directly from your website earlier it gave me the 2.0.17 version.

Downloading now will reply hopefully with a good and not bad news. Crossing fingers...

Tobias
03-15-2011, 05:21 PM
Yeah I'm not sure why that link hasn't been updated, but unfortunately I can't do that.

AllStarNoob
03-15-2011, 05:49 PM
Alright well I installed the newest version as you asked and I am still getting NO sound in the menu. And the same issue persists unchanged when I am in game.

http://tools.heroesofnewerth.com/view.php?key=c0173039fddb14c7&action=view There is my console so you can see.

I don't know what's going on but I have to go now and will be back in two hours. If this problems persists and it can't be fixed can I get a refund? Also I noticed there is a weird buzzing sound when I am in the menu and I am not sure where it is coming from.

Alright I will be back later please let me know if there is anything new you would like me to try.

Can you tell me if this happens in practice mode as well (it should)? Also, can you try deleting your startup.cfg file, please?

Also, if you could run this (take a screenshot of the result) http://www.thesycon.de/dpclat/dpclat.exe and if you could tell me which model your laptop is, that'd be appreciated.

AllStarNoob
03-15-2011, 08:06 PM
Okay I don't know what practice mode is unless you're talking about "tutorial" mode. I did try that and again I can only hear the character and the atmosphere sound effects.

I have an Alienware Area-51 desktop.

I also deleted the startup.cfg folder and still no audio.

And here are the results of the program you asked me to run...

Tobias

That's not the full name of your laptop, what is the full name?

AllStarNoob
03-16-2011, 12:25 AM
I don't have a laptop... I have a desktop. And this is the exact desktop I have... http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Alienware+-+Area-51+Desktop+with+Intel%26%23174%3B+Core%26%23153%3B +i7+Processor/9697549.p?id=1218153427558&skuId=9697549

And sorry it took me so long to reply I had to go to work.

Tobias
03-16-2011, 10:58 AM
Oh sorry, I was thinking about another model.

I seriously can't find that model anywhere on Dell's website, all theirs have Nvidia cards.

Could you attach a dxdiag report? http://forums.heroesofnewerth.com/wiki/index.php/Elementary_FAQ#How_do_I_generate_a_dxdiag_report.3 F

AllStarNoob
03-16-2011, 01:23 PM
Here is my dxdiag... Am I compromising the security of my computer by posting all this info on a public forum? I would think not since you would have asked me to do this privately.

I attached the dxdiag as a .zip file but it is a .txt file I just couldn't upload the .txt file because it was 25.5kb and max size I can upload is 19.5kb.

AllStarNoob

Okay well I will check back tomorrow and see if I got a response...

AllStarNoob
03-17-2011, 01:38 PM
Alright I'll be checking periodically throughout the day to see if I get a response. If I don't I would like to get a refund please.

Tobias

I've been doing some digging, and apparently there are some issues with your driver (only the 64 bit version).

There are a few things we can try though.

If there is a setting called "reverb" in your audio settings, disable that.

Try changing your audio quality to "high" and try changing your audio quality to "low".

Let me know if any of that works.

AllStarNoob
03-18-2011, 09:48 PM
I have no idea where reverb is. I looked in every setting I could and could not find it.

Also I tried changing to low and very low sound quality ingame and nothing happened. There is no "high" setting.

Any suggestions?

Tobias
03-19-2011, 09:30 AM
If you configure your playback device in your (Windows) sound settings, is there not a setting called reverb?

AllStarNoob
03-19-2011, 08:51 PM
Nope I do not see a reverb option...

Tobias
03-19-2011, 08:55 PM
Alright. I am willing to try and continue debugging this, but I can't guarantee you that we'll be able to resolve it.

As I can see that you haven't played that many games yet, and this is quite a gamebreaking issue, I therefore am willing to offer you a refund instead, but that is your choice.

AllStarNoob
03-19-2011, 09:30 PM
Well I want to keep the game but I just want it to work right. I think it might be an issue with the game trying to play sound through my hdmi chord I use to connect my video card to my monitor.

Also I have a surround sound speaker system set up on my computer and I didnt see an option in the game to enable surround sound system setup. I wonder if maybe you would know if they programmed HoN to play certain sounds through certain speakers (like the announcer in one or menu sound cues in others) or if the game makes HDMI priority.

Any ideas?

Tobias
03-19-2011, 09:37 PM
That could be it I suppose. Does your monitor have any speakers you could try turning on (to see if it plays anything)? Or do you have any other way of connecting your monitor than HDMI?

I don't know if HoN supports surround sound, but if it does, it should be in the options.

AllStarNoob
03-19-2011, 09:51 PM
My monitor does not have speakers so that is not an option. Let me try and trouble shoot that option and hook up a dvi chord instead of my hdmi and see if that fixes the problem.

I will let you know what happens.

Tobias
03-19-2011, 09:53 PM
Alright.

AllStarNoob
03-26-2011, 07:21 PM
Alright sorry it took me so long to do it but I finally swithced the hdmi chord out for a dvi one and I am still having the same audio issues. Also I get prompted to download the new patch and I click yes but it does not work! Why is it so buggy?

And also any other tips I can use to fix my audio issues? I think the major problem is my surround sound system but like I said I don't know why HoN doesn't support surround sound and also if other people are having the same issues I seem to be having.

AllStarNoob
03-26-2011, 11:23 PM
I was able to update the patch. I tried for about 2 hours troubleshooting my speaker setup and it has to be my surround sound system setup. In the end I think there may not be anything I can do about it :(

Tobias
03-27-2011, 02:50 PM
It's a bit hard for me to troubleshoot this as you seem to be the only person experiencing from this, and I don't have a similar setup available to me to test with. However, I'll try and get IAmRoot to look at this, an extra pair of eyes can't hurt.

IAmRoot

Could you set your speakers to stereo rather than surround sound? There may be something up with it trying to send a signal to a nonexistent channel.

AllStarNoob
03-27-2011, 03:30 PM
Yeah when I set it up to stereo I can't hear anything at all... Only when I set it up to 5.1 or 7.1 do my speakers get sound. It tries to play sound out of speakers that don't exist...

AllStarNoob
03-27-2011, 03:37 PM
I think the announcer talks through those speakers... Which I believe are the Front L/R speakers... And I don't have any plugged in there. This is supposed to be bypassed by using the option "speaker fill" which plays sound in all of my speakers but for some reason with HoN that does not work except for in game sound effects.

AllStarNoob
03-27-2011, 03:52 PM
OKAY I GOT SOUND AND I WAS RIGHT! I unplugged the SIDE L/R Surround sound speakers and plugged it into the FRONT L/R line-out connector and I get menu sounds... I can hear the announcer... And I can hear people talking. So everything is fine now and I am good to go thank you.

Tobias
03-27-2011, 03:54 PM
Good to hear! I'll mark this solved for future reference.
