Introduction:

After reading through this thread and the end of this project I was very dissappointed, a lot of people tried to help
ScreenShotx and did him support with his map. So much support and enthusiasm about this project it would simply
"die" ? I requested the files and asked him if I am allowed to continue this project. He agreed, now here we are...

Valkyrie Wars is revived!



Gameplay:

The aim of that game is to reach a number of hero kills by using the javelin skill of valkyrie. You have additional
abilities and items to make it more interesting, more difficult and more fun! Only valkyrie is available, it won't be possible
to enter the area of the other team, you will have to use very good aimed javelins to win that war.

Map:



reworked map layout

Increased "battle" area and added hiding spots, the spawn is more protected and added a few plateus to encourage
dynamic gameplay.


Game:



45 Hero kills to win needed
each kill grants 1 level up (100 experience) only for the person who did the kill
each assist grants 25 experience
assists can be achieved by using traps or [Alone in the Darkness]
it's not possible to assist yourself to gain additional experience
player being flagged as AFK won't grant any experience
hero max level set to 15
added AI, a simple Valkyrie running arround spamming Javelins (thanks an7hraxjax)
Note: Pick Legion (AI is Hellbourne)
Note: AI will be removed when this map can be played with others


Additional Informations:

All the abilities are mostly based on community suggestions. All numbers are more like placeholders.
The real balancing will start when it is possible to test the map with others. This is the final release.
There only will be bug fixes, no new things until we have the possibility to play this map online with
other people.

The map is allready seperated in two parts by a (river, fissure or whatever).
Sure I can make it a square but my point is about the "things" inside, since I
can use everyshape I want on the 3 layouts. Furthermore I plan to add at least
one "type of rune" but I don't want to create a Pudge Wars port because
there allready is one.

I very like the icons how they are now. In my opinion AvunaOs did a great job.

I don't denie it, but since the 2nd ability is the "main" ability, it's quite a strange icon for it... Or maybe it's because I know the spell in GW (it's a sucky spell), idk.

It wasn't a blame in any case, hold on ! :)

btw. first rune is done, on pick up you gain an additional charge on your arrow skill (like if you catch).

I wouldnt really pay much attention to the icons since that is least of your worries.

The map has some nice props too, I like it!

If you send me the link of your map, I could make a simple AI, that runs randomly to 4 (or whatever number is necessary) spots on the map, and that throws an arrow to you every 5 seconds ... Would be quite easy to do.
If you want to try scripting it yourself, have a look at the resources/heroes/madbomber in my map. Or read below.
- assume you want 4 location setpoints on the map, make an entity files for an invisible, invulnerable gadgets, with name="Gadget_Location_X" (X going from 1 to 4).
- define these gadgets in your entitylist, name them "loc_X" with type "Gadget_Location_X" (X going from 1 to 4)
- give the location gadgets each their own aura with range="200" or so, that applies each its own state (targetscheme (AI) heroes), name=State_Location_X
- each State has a structure like this in its <oninflict> , this is for State_Location_1:

The more locations, the more gadgets and states you gotta make ... :)
Give a move order onspawn and onrespawn of your AI and it should work.

With <setent1 name="your_hero_name_as_declared_in_entitylist"/>
<useability slot="1" source="source_entity" target="ent1" queue="front"/>
you make the AI use abilities. Apply a state in onspawn with continuous="true" with this order in it to make the AI use it's abilities automaticly.

It won't dodge the arrows, but if the AI are moving all the time, it can be quite fun to play around with this. And it makes single player testing more interesting :)

It's pretty cool, but I've got some suggestions : reduce the catch cooldown... it's huge!!
also the ulti cd is quite long. And levelup on first kill ... you can set levelup experience levels in game_settings.cfg

Less cooldown, more action !

Don't insult my bots :D, I made it in 2 hours !
You can improve it easily by adding some waypoints + adjust the routes, tuning the rate of attack, and implement the catch mechanism.

Also, the bots are just to make the demo a little bit more entertaining. Primary goal is human multi-player. But we wait for the S2 platform until you can test this.

Checked the video, looks great! Though I really reckon that the 3rd skill "Alone in the Darkness" should be replaced by Leap. That's my opinion though, haha. Keep up the good work!!

The 3rd skill is already slightly modified to fit more a fast game play by modifying
the behavior of the javelin skill. All abilities are now build around the javelin ability
and the ultimate ability ( which is completely reworked now ) so that you will have
to "combine" your abilities to beat your enemy. Furthermore some "tactical" things
will be included ( actually they are all already included in my, unpublished, version)
like traps, wards and modifiers (buy able to change ability behavior ).
So the ability preview video is actually outdated like most of the stuff posted on
the main page.

As I am still waiting for the person, who creates custom graphics for this
map, before release I am now improving the code by changing intern mechanics
I used ( I love learning process and how you can look at things you made one
month ago and realizing that it could be made in a better / elegant way than
I did before ).

I still have to improve the tool tips ( especially ability description ) to match
the newest changes. I will release the new version soon, this time it's the truth.
It will be the newest version, but I guess without custom graphics, only to
get some feedback about the items, abilities and other stuff. So I can tweak
this stuff, when I get the custom graphics I will implement them into the map.

After this I guess I will only "bug fix" the map until it will be possible to play this
maps with other guys. The fact working and not being able to "play" it is a little
bit frustrating and only doing it for learning purpose is okay but not as interesting
as for play.

Even if one day later you use XML, it will be nothing like you've learned in here.

Phoenix, you made your point that you don't like scripting for the HoN engine, but you don't need to post this in multiple threads.
The map section of the forum helps people to make maps, but it's not the place to bash on the scripting language.
Maybe you should start with actually contributing instead of all this criticizing.

I'm pretty sure I already stated that XML is used for scritping by other people than S2. Also w3school is a website about web development and things related to it, so the usage they explain about XML there is usage related to web development. Even then, in their "How Can XML be Used?" page (http://www.w3schools.com/xml/xml_usedfor.asp) they say that "A lot of new Internet languages are created with XML." So I don't know what was your point in posting that link.
Also, S2 is not the only company using XML like this. You can even find a list of XML markup languages here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_XML_markup_languages). So yes, learning about XML as a scripting language is certainly not a waste.

That you don't like XML or you think it shouldn't be used that way is your opinion and I don't mind it at all. What I don't like is you going around and misinforming people.

Anyway, this unexpected set of events will force me to PM you with my reasoning.


Make screenshots and describe the whole situation please, I will try to reproduce
it and fix it. BUGS:
Bug 1 - The starting position of the valkyrie seems to collide with the shop. This actives the path-blockers removal and allows me to go to the wrong side of the map as demonstrated by these two images:

Bug 2 - It seems to occur randomly when I kill the enemy valkyrie bot or when the bot kills me. Although the javelin hits the target, a copy seems to just be created and stands there with no reason at all.

There are also other nuisances like having a "scout buff" with no description at all ... But this are the main bugs I found after playing a few minutes.

Okay, the bug with the spawn position is knowen to me, I have to say
at the point I implemented it I was just to lazy to create a new gadget
as a spawn target, will fix it in the next release. The second thing with
the random appearing javelin, it is a powerup, collecting it grants one
additional charge on your javelin ability. They powerup spawns random
at one of six positions (3 per team) every 30 secs and stays for 15 sec,
then it dissappear if no one did pick up.
The scout debuff is a simple visual to show that the ai (bot valkyrie)
currently know where you are, if you move to far away the ai dont
know your position.

As a suggestion: the powerup thing should really be re-thinked IMO. I am not sure if most people will immediately think "Hey, this is a powerup!". I suggest a different model.
As for the scout buff, at least give it a description, it can't be that hard can it? :P

It had a description, I removed it, the original was "AI has seen you!"
Maybe I add it again, with model gues people will be confused, will look

Hey xHoax,
you need to download the map, it is a .s2z file, you can download it here (http://www.mediafire.com/?36yfh240zk07lvy)
then simply put the file into your map folder, it should be in your hon/game
folder, for example in my case it is:

e:/heroes of newerth/game/maps/

If there is no maps ordner in your game ordner, simply create it and put the
map file in it. Now you can start your HoN and create a practice game, select
the map Valkyrie Wars and set the game type to PRACTICE and test it =)

Danm I just loved this. It's so cool, creative and funny at the same time. I had a great time just by playing against the AI.

About Issues, I could just notice only 2:

1. Sometimes, rarely I would say, a random javelin spawns near me or the AI, but it's not flying and neither me or the AI trhown it. It just stands still there, and I can pick it to get an extra javelin. Weird o_O

EDIT: I skipped the post where you say this is a powerup. The only thing that still remains strange for me it's the long time to get one of these. Maybe it's cuz I do not move a lot

2. Probably the spawn area is not protected or something, or it's not meant to be. When I got 2 javelins, either getting the extra one by Catch or the bug meant above, I could get the kill and trhown the other one right away and got a double tap lol. The time between the 2 kills was short, so I deduced it hit the AI on his spawn. If it is indeed protected, then it's just me, ignore this.

Other than these issues I can only mention the already said scout buff thing, the last item missing it's description and I got confused how the tricky shot really works. The description told me to activate it twice but I can't, I just throw it and move it likely to hit the AI.

This is the feedback I can give you for now. Hope someday this is playable in multiplayer, cuz it's so cool. Keep up the good work! :]

You go to your installation folder and add it to your /game/maps/ folder(C:\Program Files\Heroes of Newerth\game\maps\ in Windows). Then you start your game, and the map should be there in the create game panel, and you can play it on a practice server.

What exactly did not work? Hosting the map? Error Messages? Some more details would be nice. I am working on the map again. Upcoming version will include finaly the game length setting and some minor bug fixes.
