If you are quite familiar with Dota, you are welcome to move on to the next thread. However, if you aren't, before you start blindly jumping into matches (even "Noob Only" matches):

Create a game, check on "Private Game" and "All Heroes" then choose a side and start your match.

You are now free to explore the map, stores, graphics and other gameplay nuances on your own.

Please keep in mind you will need to play the game out till the end or suffer a "leavers" penalty. Winning the match will unfortunately also effect your rank positively, but it's beta so it's no biggie.

Enjoy! :D

You don't have to worry about this, you will not get leaver status from leaving a game where you are the only person playing. I spent first few games just checking the new heroes in single player haven't finished any of them and I still have 0 leaves.

You are 100% correct sir. Just tried it out and what's more it won't boost your personal win/lose stats.

You can also use this to practice last-hitting and killing your own creeps to keep the creep line near your own tower.

The best advice for new players so far.

I can't understand how some people play their first game vs humans and expect to have fun.
Even if they played DotA before but many did't played it and start "nude".

I would even say: Don't play a hero that you didn't played/tested in private singleplayer game before.
Had two games yesterday where a feeding chen ruined the game and did't used the ultimate once...

IMO, that's whats wrong with this game. Balance issues, bugs, those can be fixed. I'm sure it will do very well in a small niche, but it will never have any real mass appeal unless they can make it fun from the get go.

"You haven't EARNED your fun. Go play by yourself for a couple hours, then maybe you can have fun."

from the perspective of a player that has always known what dota was but never played, i jumped right into noob only games, and got harassed instantly. my response was simply "did i not join a noobs only game?"

as long as there is a good ranking system, almost similar to how halo was done but probably not as in depth, noob only games should end up with just that, and new people might not end up as discouraged.

i like this tip of playing solo a bit to learn the class, but honestly it sounds way too boring for as many heroes are there would be to test. I think it would be help players new to the dota experience for noob only games to maybe leave out some componets for faster game play, with either less towers at the start, cheaper items or keep it simple with none of the recipies. Seems like this would allow new players to get more games in just learning several different heroes while actually getting to play the game.

Just to point out, if you play alone and do finish the game, it DOES boost your winstats (or lower them most likely).

Killing your own creeps? Does it really works?

Yes. You can use the target hotkey to attack your own creep if they're below 50% health.

This is called "denying", and if done well, will keep the wave near your tower and lessen the xp & gold gain for enemy heroes :)
