View Full Version : Madman is still madly OP

Even after the 0.1.28.0 patch which nerfed the madman on strength and strength gain per level, Madman is still pretty OP during combat.
Even though I am a somewhat noobish player, I find that with madman, I can get about half a dozen kills before dying. The same goes when I am playing against him, since I often find myself dead before I could type "OMG MADMAN ON THE LOOSE!!!

Although Madman can only stealth himself for 4 seconds, the massive speed boost which he gains for it more than compensates for the lack of its duration. With a proper life stealing item, madman is still capable of dealing enough dps to topple even the most heavily armored units, and with berserker on, he practically becomes invincible.
Personally, I would just like to see the berserker duration shortened and its cooldown lengthened. I would also prefer it if madman didn't get such a massive speed boost while stealthed, so as to make it harder for him to run away every time. Madman's criticals should be nerfed a bit as well, so that they don't happen as often.

This is not a hero guide or strategy

Don't type. Get a mic :)

Though yes, the madman needs to be griefed early to prevent him from beefing up.

I have been playing madman since i joined, and i havee to say that Though he is op after levels 16, he really needs to be given time to grind alone without harassing otherwise he is useless.

I have played against friends who love to gank, and they would leave me on 2hp knowing that i would have to run all the way back to base to heal wasting 30 seconds before i could farm again. in a 2 vs 2 or a 3 vs 3 if stopped from grinding at earlier levels, he will inevitably be rooted by a giant pole endgame.

That said, i just played some friends who didn't believe me how OP he was endgame, and allowed me to grind, Accursed and Magebane vs Madman. I went Wispering helm from the start, then Wingbow, and Abyssal Skull. I then after clearing an entire lane by myself and taking out 2 towers was attempted to be ganked by them and managed to kill both with 20%hp at lvl 18. I then had enough money to buy the Savage mace, and then i was unstoppable. I would dps down accursed through his ultimate, whilst magebane was dropping everything he had. My health dropped down to about 40% during the inevitable stuns, but then as soon as i was able to attack again it went back up to 100% and stayed there. Both died quicly, magebane tried to escape but the daze/sprint combo meant it was impossible to get away.

With 2 manatubes to finish it off, there was nothing else i could possibly want to finish that character. It was OP in every sense of the word.

But at start game? hell. it's weak as anything.

Madman is a pubstar, and Hawky, if they were smart enough to get blademail, you'd be toast.

Well said.

Though would the lifesteal still be considered to "hit" even though it was myself it was hitting? that coupled with a short stun would end me.

The real question - is he better then Swiftblade or some of the other carry heroes?

I think not - simply because of the lack of early nuke immunity/aoe. Swiftblade's AoE can be devastating when combined with some of the ultimates on support heroes. I would also rather have Night Hound w/ Cloud or Bloodseeker with the 6+ second Silence and Rupture in a team fight then Madman.

Every carry hero can get OP against bad picks and disorganized teams -> most of pub play.
The only match I've lost so far to a Madman pick was when our RD picks were bad, and we were losing anyway to his 4 teammates. I've lost one match picking Madman for exactly the same reason. He's not OP by himself, but by the other 9 picks in the match.

Pardon the DotA terms and names, still learning the new ones.

Totally agree. shukuchi + blink/nuke/slow + high dps = ... they were supposed to nerf him, not buff!

ofc you can kill anyone using all stuns/sheepsticks/etc on him... but you'll probably lose the game before you buy that sheepstick... or madman will have bkb/satanic and 5 lvl advantage by that time. (2 flee/chase mechanisms ensure that he gets lots of gold/exp and doesn't lose any)
Blademail? GL with that, it's only waste of gold.
