The IDEA

To create an incredibly simple MOBA game with as little money as possible.

The REASON

MOBA games are a cash cow. Every developer of this genre accepts that. DotA 2 will have microtransactions and we need a shift in the thinking of developers. The new MOBA will cost exactly $2 US, to keep away trolls and stat padders.

The PLAN

We'll need a team of volunteers, who have experience in programming/texture/art or have had experience making games. A website will need to be set up, and we may have to make it on one of those free blog spaces until the game is created for downloading.

The PLEDGE

We will be 100% not for profit. We will NEVER make you pay for anything beyond your $2 transaction and will not introduce a cash shop. We will most likely never introduce anything new but will do balance patches.

What YOU can do

Volunteering would be nice. Name suggestions are another thing, but expressing interest in the game at all would be great.

As of now this is entirely theoretical. But if we get the support from people with development skill, a community and the time, this game will be made.

It will have poor graphics.
It will have poor player support.
It will not be easy.
But it will be AWESOME.

We can call it the League of Heroes. It'll have graphics as shitty as LoL's and we can clone every single hero from both games. Also, we can hire Jon St. John to voice our default announcer.

10/10 totally thought you were serious.

Woah there. Constant updates? I said there may be patches for OP heroes, and we obviously can't run the servers.
This isn't a troll thread, please don't make others think it is.

Too bad the website URL has already been taken.

So you want a team of volunteer developers and pay the website server costs and update server costs and login server costs with $2 from each account.
Good luck, if it works out i'll buy 10 account from you.

Website server costs I'll probably end up paying for. Login servers are a good point though. Honestly, the $2 from each account is nothing. As far as update servers go, we won't be releasing many updates so that isn't too much of an issue.

How many people do you plan on joining this game? Paying for the website servers will cost you a lot. Also how will people download this game?

We're pretty much covered under most circumstances. If we can't afford download servers, we won't charge $2 and just host it on TPB. That's free.

Thanks for the idea refining.

poor graphics, poor support, not easy...

so it's dota? We already have that game.

What's my 2 dollars go to? you said it's a non-profit game, why do I need to give you 2 dollars?

Also, you seem to confuse not for profit and not making profit. IE I have a garage band, we're not a not for profit, we're the latter.

If you're not gonna pay employees and present not even a skeleton of design, how are you gonna get people to join?

Is this is a joke, Do you know how hard it would be to make a moba game even semi fun and balanced. Its not just gonna be like do a few lines of code and youve got your game, your going to need a ton of stuff and the mechanics will most likely be dodgy as ****. Why would anyone play that over dota or hon or lol.

Devourawr
02-19-2011, 12:05 AM
Sorry, maybe I wasn't clear about that. We will need that money to ease the pain of update servers and hosting. It won't nearly cover it, but the money does that AND stops account feeding/smurfing.

@ cami

Of course it won't be easy. This game will take a long time seeing as it will be done entirely in spare time. The balance part is just playing the game and refining what you experience. It will also be cheap, so we're looking forward to that bit.
Like I said, the game will be incredibly cheap and be casually based. Faster gameplay is a must if we are to attract anyone. We just wot end up including hidden costs.

Unless it exceeds the quality of HoN, i see absolutely no point in playing it.

An entire game made from volunteer work will out preform one made by a rich developer, I can see that happening.

Let's say everyone agree to work without pay to push the project. What can you do OP? Because if you do nothing, you shouldn't even be there.

Riot is giant and S2 is large. There's no way you're going to make a game that can compete with their products on a shoestring budget.
