Hey folks i really like this game so much but i suck like hell.
Sadly I have never played dota or any strat game before this.
I am always the most bad player in my team and people always complain about me cause my k:d ratio which is often 0:12 or sth like that
I want to learn this game from the beginning but in every game that I join (even newbies only games) people flame me or kick me thats really sad.
Is there anybody who wants to be my mentor ? doesnt matter what hero you can show me to play with i want to learn any hero...
I am 23 got my headset and speak german or english ...
I dont know what to buy how to react on certain situations and stuff like that ... i really try to play defensive which works fine for the early game but later then i am too much behind their levels and cant do anything.
I have never been so bad in any other game i think HoN is just a very hard game because most have played a lot of dota before this.
My teammates want me to stay in the base so that i dont feed the opponents but i guess that isnt a way to learn the game :mad:

Hello MachoManMo!

I'm really, really new to this game, too. I haven't even played 100 games yet (DotA and HoN) and I still haven't played all the heroes. But I'll try to give some advice to things I've realized helped me a lot. But still, take this only as a newbie-to-newbie advice.

First off: read. I cannot empasize on this hard enough. But reading all you can really helps. Especially guides directed to Basic gameplay and game mechanics, Basic hero theory and Basic items. In order to start playing the game you have to understand basic concepts such as "last hitting" and "lane". You also have to learn that the mini-map is one of your best friends.

Then decide what kind of character you want to play and find a guide for one hero that you think suits you. I suggest you start by learning a ranged hero, since you will have more time to react when they rush. Unfortunately I don't know what is a good starting-hero..

And a few good things I've learnt:

Never play "Easy mode" (EM) - it's not easier!
Don't start the match by buying an expensive item such as boots. Instead get lots of minor items (Runes of Blight, Totems etc.).
Try only to learn one or a few heroes until you've understood basic gameplay.
Learn as much of the terminology as possible (gank, mia, carry, tank etc.).
Try to understand your teams movement. If all your teammates say "b" and go back after a push - you should probably do so to ;)

Again: READ!

Read a hero guide. Try to understand what role that hero has, look in the items list and read about what the suggested items do. Then go play an -AP game (no rd,sd,ar since that won't give you that hero). After the match - go read the same guide again and try to understand what it says.

As soon as you've understood the very, very basics I suggest you play some random games (rd,sd,ar) to learn a new hero.

---

That is:

Play one match, go read the guide for that hero, play another match AP and choose that hero, go read the guide again.

Repeat.

---

Most likely good starting guides:

And a few more. Also, look at different guide-videos, such as those:

- Stay in lane to get experience, if you listen to your teammate and stay at the base your not gaining any...

- Stay behind your creeps, pick a ranged agility heroe that is easy to play (Arachna, Andromeda, Moonqueen)

- Try to start with heroes that are easier to play (more passive abilities)

- Be aware of what is going on in the other lanes, is someone missing ?

- Be aware of your teammates, call for help/ganks

- Notify your teammates when the enemy on your lane is missing

- Try to get an item build before the game, so you can concentrate on playing rather than reading item description in game

- Read the guides :)

You can also play practice mode and spawn waves of creeps to practice last hitting

Kinda unrelated but you'd be getting a lot more advice if your post was more legible :

Now there is ONE simple thing you can do to get to average level.

1. The FPVoDs (first person videos). It is obvious video is the best way to learn anything, especially games.
If you asked competitive dota players a way to improve, all of them would say 'watch replays'.
Now we don't have replays...
But thanks to some players we have even better. First person videos !

Soulstealer by Glorify : http://forums.heroesofnewerth.com/showthread.php?t=20085

I wanted to stress this since most people in this thread will only tell you to read premium guides (which are good, don't get me wrong !) . If you watch these videos you will have enough to be an average player already. Then you can read up a bit to get more knowledge of the game.
