View Full Version : Magmus and the Staff of The Masters

My question is should Magmus go for this item after obtaining a Portal Key and some Enhanced Marchers? I can see the use of this item since it upgrades his ultimate fairly well.
I can see someone going for this item in a longer lasting game which does not need another disable or even the need to obtain more survivability.
What are your thoughts and opinions on this?

Magmus has a powerful ult, but there are games in which boosting it is not the best way to contritube to your team. It depends on how the match is going, but for pub games and for combo-based picks, it will be probably recommended.

i played a game with a magmus that bought this staff instead of a shrunken head, the result was him never getting an ult off

Staff doesn't do too terribly much for mag's ult; sure, it guarantees that he hits more targets further away, and it decreases the cooldown, but all that is fairly useless if you never get to finish channeling it due to stuns/disables (which is why a shrunken head is exponentially better!)
That's not to say that getting a staff is never the answer...if you've already bought marchers + a shrunken head and you've got the 4k+ gold to spare, go for it.

one solution is to get behemoth instead 0.0 Although i interrupted his portal keyed ult with pharaoh once, i was targeting someone else, and he portaled into my ult 0.0

I assume he doesn't know what fog of war is.

You can still interupt it with wards/a stealther if you spot him but yeah portal key from the sides out of sight is usually better than running in with bkb. Bkb works fine most of the time though combined to the usual stun>ulti approach, there's few heroes that can block it so you just need to look out for them.
