View Full Version : Honcast - Day9 "Funday Monday" style

So I heared the discussion of having funday monday kind of cast happening for HoNCast.

For everyoen who doesn't know:
Day9 is a well known Starcraft2 caster who set's challenges to players which they have to accomplish ingame to submit their replay to him.
The very fun thing about these casts is that he mostly sets challenges which explore usually underused strategies.

Back on topic:
Breaky and co were talking about how they were hesitant about doing something like this since they'd screw up peoples games with challenges like "Build Shroud on Night Hound" and so on...
Now what came to my mind first... why would you do that?

I mean there are so many good challenges you could get out there, just think about what we havn't seen lately or is in generell never used but obviously useable.

For example (a few things that just come to mind):

:succ: with PK - How many people actually tried that? Succu is so rarely seen and the disables might just be really great with her + team.

:vind: as main carry - Especially after the recent buff pretty viable however close to never seen. Why not have people try him more?

:witc: rushing Harkons - These was this "Carry WS" thread going around, I always wanted to see that ingame. I mean, it sounds fun.

Furthermore, you could set team challenges, like "Destroy the enemy shrine within 20 minutes" - concede means you didn't destroy the shrine.

Just my thoughts on this.

Greetings

I think it would be fun, but your ideas are too specific

It also works alot better as a concept in sc2 then in HoN.

But yeah, the suggestions should atleast be hero independent, like

Not allowed to buy certain items
not allowed to go to X lane
not allowed to take any tower down before 30min mark
not allowed to skill stuns

etc :P

Nah... Quit trying to get people to sabotage games.

The concept works alot better in sc2 yeah :P where you can kinda conrol how you want to play your game.

HoN is very different

I actually did all of those things. I kinda like PK on Succubus to be honest.
Vindicator I usually play with the old Silencer build which leaves his annoying debuff to be picked after some stats, atleast that's how I remember it, I might be wrong. =)

More weird stuff I've tried (that I know are mostly stupid or just uncommon)
Portal Key on Hag, Thunderbringer, Bombardier and Slither.

Puzzlebox - Arachna, Slither, Wildsoul and Keeper of the Forest.

Restoration Stone - Deadwood, Blacksmith with codex.

Those kinds of challenges are actually fun. Makes a game more interesting for you, however people on your team will hate you in many cases. It will also catch opponents off-guard.

Not a bad idea, but id rather people submit things of interest instead of making a million honcast viewers sabotaging games.things like that you need serious skill to do, most do not.

Why do people care so much about people sabotaging games? I mean it could be a no stat game, or even an Inhouse... It's not like it doesn't happen anyways and it's more fun to see people rage about something someone is intentionally doing.

I think it'd be more fun to issue challenges to teams. Like "Win a game by only pushing one lane" (You cannot intentionally kill a tower outside of the lane you are pushing) or "win a game where every hero buys a Portal Key before you take a Rax".

Day9's funday monday is about running interesting strategy, not just making discrete, stupid choices.

A change of strategy isn't just going: "i'll get bad items/skill build on this hero and see how it works out", it's an entire change of the way you go about things.

It's easy to say, in Starcraft terms: "Go nydus network, you must have 2 nydus worms in production at one point in the game." Because that's something you build your strategy around, the production of nydus networks and the constant ability to harass with those Nydus networks.

A change of strategy in HoN/Dota is a lot harder to achieve because this isn't a 1v1 game, you need to co-ordinate what you want to achieve with your team, otherwise you're going to look like an ass when you run assassins shroud/impalement combo on Torturer and think everyone will just let it slide.
