good tutorial, will help a lot of new modders, but i also have some critique!
first thing, the quality could be better, it wasn't that bad, but i couldn't read the text in the boxes, like the entity editor for example
also, i think there is a part missing in the tutorial, the second video starts with foliage, or to be more specific, you are in the middle of explaining foliage, but in the first video there was nothing with foliage at the end
getting phone calls or messanger popups (like steam/skype) is annoying and unprofessionel, i know it's unfortunate and you maybe haven't thought on that and it may not be your fault that you get a phone call in that moment, but i wonder why you didn't just cut that part out and do it again
some things could have been explained better, like you explain what foliage is, but you also say that you should just press it for a short moment or otherwise it gets clumped up, which is no wonder if you set the foliage density on max
and moving around the camera so fast/often is a bit annoying, i mean i know the most features of the map editor, but you started and constantly moved around
i imagine that this could be confusing if you see the map editor for the first time
if you don't know what some functions of the editor do, i wonder why you do a tutorial without researching it beforehand
and things like saying that the color painting doesn't work or isn't very handy and you should not use it is not good in my opinion.
it works, you maybe just use it wrong. If you reduce the brush strength and use it for setting accents (you could do a path on the same texture for example) or highlight something, or just use it to get a nicer transition between two very different textures.
please don't get me wrong, the tutorial was good, but it could have been better
just my thoughts

Thanks Luke for the feedback.
My aim with the tutorial was to give my opinion and advice from my experiences with the map editor, teach people ticks that took me a lot of time or investigation. The reason I told people to steer away from paint colors was because in my experience they do not look good. Same with foliage, I didn't pretend to be an expert with it, I said in the video it never quite turns out when I use foliage. However the S2 maps pull it off superbly, I also named the tutorial a Basic tutorial. I could of gone into more detail, done more research, but that will be for an advanced tutorial. This covered all you need for now.
Anyway it was my first ever video and I am sure my next will be better as you say.

I just checked the videos and I see what you mean, a few seconds must of been cut off when I split the video in two for YouTube. I know it is hard for someone who knows more than the tutorial to say something positive, but again this is for people who have not yet tried map editing.

yes i know and as i said, i think the tutorial is good, just wanted to give you some feedback on what i think you could have done better.
You did a good job of giving a good overview off what can be done with the editor.
I thought of doing a tutorial myself, but since i don't know all the features of the editor yet, and the lack of fluently speaking english hindered me a bit of doing so.
And now we have a good tutorial so it's even more unnecessary to do so :P
and a tutorial on scripting would be a lot harder since it's more complex
btw, do you plan on doing more tutorials in the future?

Thanks Luke, and yeah I can do more but there a lot more knowledgeable people out there than me. I used fraps which doesn't seem to record anything that's not in game so I can't record my desktop.
I might do a specific tutorial at some stage, maybe a neutral creeps and base creeps howto guide, or an advanced overall guide, but again I do not think I am an expert in all of this, I just know the basics and a few other tricks.

Thanks omgwtf, I posted it on general when I first uploaded it, I got a lot of positive comments with most people just posting to say thank you. As the thread was not a discussion though it quickly fell to the second page as everyone posted thanks once then didn't reply or view it again.
It will be interesting to see if tutorials like this get recognized as well as the premium guides.
