The whole point of custom maps is playing them online. Having s2 choose which maps we can play online is honestly the dumbest idea any gaming company has ever had. S2 has lost my faith so hard it's not even funny. :(

the important difference between HoN and warcraft 3 is that games in HoN are hosted on the server, in wc3 the host is on the client.
this is to prevent maphacking, but the consequence is that custom maps need to be hosted by S2 on their servers. that's why they need approval first.
and that's why you cannot play them in the official retail hon.

We can already host a practice game on our own, why not allow us to invite people into the game?
What S2's given us is the ability to make maps, but not play them in any enjoyable way. Who wants that?

I wish they would do this.

Because a practice game is hosted locally and you can do whatever you want there.
Wanna spawn 20 Thunderbringer? Why not 40?
Nope, the only way to get a custom map is with S2s approval.
I bet this will take another two months, the SDK at least 6.

However, thats not any different than any other game with local hosting.
In the grand scheme of things, if you can't trust the host, ( random guy or S2 ), to run a fair server, it just doesn't matter. Thats why serious players would only use official servers and personally hosted games would, almost by definition, be for fun and entertainment.
I don't really see the host cheating as the main problem here. It would be no more a problem than in any other locally hosted game. The real problems that S2 faces are technical ( making it all run smoothly ), political ( stopping blatant piracy and avoiding fragmenting the community ) and time ( other things to worry about ). At least, thats how I see it.
That said, I'm all for locally hosted games.
