View Full Version : [Progress Stops] Can't finish installing new patches
I can't install the new patch (2.0.7). After the download and the black screen with the grey bar that fills up, my screen goes to the desktop with a small grey window and a darker grey bar that says installing. It always gets to the last chunk of this grey bar before the bar goes blank and says "Error updating file: ./hon.exe" This is not the only time this has happened. I usually just wait for a week or two until the next patch, uninstall, and reinstall the new client (reinstalling the current client does not fix the problem. There is an error installing the current client as well with the file hon.exe)
Please help. Thank you.
Also, I cannot find my console.log after following the wiki steps. The only files in my Heroes of Newerth\game\ folder are another folder for <core>, a folder for <maps>, and five files--> <cgame.dll>, <game.dll>, <game_shared.dll>, <resources0.s2z>, and <textures.s2z>. Please help me find the console.log if it is necessary. Thank you.
The folder you are looking in is your INSTALL folder (ie in program files). As per the wiki, you need to be looking in MyDocuments
Sorry, I wasn't using the admin account on my computer. Here is the console.log
So...no solution to this?
please follow the wiki and provide the console.log as per instructions
Was what I posted not the console log? I redid the steps and seem to have come up with the same thing...but here goes the second attempt.

If you need additional help, please post on the Mac & Linux Forum (http://forums.heroesofnewerth.com/forumdisplay.php?f=182) Please provide
console.log uploaded to: http://tools.heroesofnewerth.com/upload.php (console.log must be a valid zipfile)
provide the output of glxinfo | grep -i "opengl\|direct\|server\|client" && lspci | grep -i vga && uname -a
provide the associated crash report (remove old crash reports and recreate crash if required)
Please follow the wiki, if there is still an issue please follow these instructions
doesn't change the fact how you post the console.log
please upload and paste url
Well you had Linux instructions so that's why I said that. Anyway, I tried posting this thing twice. If there's something I'm doing wrong, more specific instruction would be nice. Obviously, I'm incapable of following the wiki to your satisfaction.
The linux instructions w.r.t. providing console.log are exactly the same
As to the wiki....

I fail to see how that isn't clear

Actually, please use this one. It is more recent.

need to uninstall and d/l new client. disable any a/v while updating
That didn't work. I got
"Error opening file for writing:
C:\Program Files\Heroes of Newerth\hon.exe"
is hon still running...
ie the process
and you should have uninstalled, that files existance shows it isn't fully installed
the fact that it cannot be overwritten shows it is open
It gives me to option to abort, retry (which never works), or ignore. So should I just ignore it?
no
you must have HoN process still running
open up the process manager (right click taskbar)
I tried again. I have my task bar open and it shows hon.exe twice as well as honclient-2.0.9.exe. I got the same error message though.
KILL hon.exe
THAT is why you cannot uninstall, reinstall
You need to kill all instances of HoN.exe as well as honclient
Kill them all, kill them with fire!
Then remove the folder you installed HoN to. You MUST destroy the remains completely
Then and only then can you begin to install with any hope that it will work
LoL, I killed them :-)
That seems to have worked. For some reason, even after I uninstalled, I still had a HoN folder in program files with pretty much everything still in it so I got rid of all that. No errors installing this time. Thank you!
