Where To Post
- If you have a simple mod related question, don't make a new thread, ask it in the "Ask a question, Get an answer (http://forum01.heroesofnewerth.com/showthread.php?t=83279)" sticky. This includes trying to find a mod.

- If you want to request a mod, request it in the requests subforums, and make sure to read the posting rules in that forum.

- If you want to post a newly created COMPLETE mod, post it in appropriate sub forum, if your mod is a work in progress, keep it in the main Modifications forum.

Forum Rules
Much like any other area, be nice. If you're going to criticize someone's creation or feedback, be positive about it. Don't post something like 'omg dis is teh wurst mod ive ever seen die in a fire plz'. Give the thread creator some positive feedback such as how they can improve their mod or suggestion. Please keep any and all disputes flame-free.

If someone is misbehaving, report their post using the http://forums.heroesofnewerth.com/images/buttons/report.gif icon to the left of their post.

Common Mod Question and Solutions

Here are some of the common mod problems some users are facing, and the solution to it. We're going to start deleting bad posts to clean up the amount repetition there is in threads. The same questions happen to get asked over and over in the same threads and people are tired of having to answer the same questions.

1) Where can I find a list of available mods? Which mods should I use?
See this thread (http://forum01.heroesofnewerth.com/showthread.php?t=112409) for a guide to available mods.

2) My interface has stopped working since I updated hon
See this thread (http://forum01.heroesofnewerth.com/showthread.php?t=152925) about common patch related issues.

3) What's all this stuff about s2z and honmod files?

.s2z files are renamed zip files. The original method of creating mods was to edit the game files and then repack them into a new s2z file. The game loads through the s2z files starting with the base game files and then adding on. As a result of this method, two s2z mods cannot edit the same file as the changes will conflict and only one mod or the other would work. The only way multiple s2z mods that edit the same file could work together was if they were manually combined. The HoN Mod Manager is a program to automate the combining process through the use of an instruction xml file.

4) How do I install an .s2z mod?
Some mod threads will have slightly different instructions for installing but they all follow the same basic instructions. To install, place the .s2z file in the HoN game folder.

The default locations for these are:

Linux: /home/<username>/HoN/game/
Windows 7: C:\Program Files\Heroes of Newerth\game\
Windows Vista: C:\Program Files\Heroes of Newerth\game\
Windows XP: C:\Program Files\Heroes of Newerth\game\
Mac:
1. Press Finder
2. Press Applications
3. Right click 'Heroes of Newerth', and press Show containing files
4. Open Game folder
5. Move file here

5) How do I install a .honmod
You will need the HoN Modification Manager located here (http://forums.heroesofnewerth.com/showthread.php?t=25883).

To install mods (*.honmod files) put them into the mods directory (see below for locations) or drag them onto the program window (Windows only). Any mod files in that directory that are compatible will automatically show up in the program.
To use installed mods you need to enable them first (e.g. by double-clicking on them), then select "Apply Mods" from the "File" menu. You'll need "Apply Mods" each and every time the game was patched or you have installed/uninstalled/updated any mods. The program will remind you of this.

The default locations for the mods directory are:
Windows: C:\Program Files\Heroes of Newerth\game\mods
Linux: /home/<username>/.Heroes of Newerth/game/mods
MacOS: /Users/<username>/Library/Application Support/Heroes of Newerth/game/mods
This directory will be automatically created when you launch the mod manager the first time and can be easily be accessed from the "Open Mod Folder" option in the "File" menu.

6) I downloaded a honmod but I got a .zip file. Where do I extract it to or what do I do with it?

IE (Internet Explorer) and Google Chrome (doesn't always happen) is problematic for downloading mod files, and changes them to .zip files instead of .honmod files because the file extension is too long. You don't want to extract this, it won't solve anything. The solution is switching to another browser like Firefox or Google Chrome to avoid the problems IE has. If you don't want to give up IE, then you can rename the .zip part to .honmod without any problems. Make sure you enabled file extension viewing first (Control Panel -> Folder Options -> View tab -> Uncheck "Hide file extensions for known file types").

7) I get a Mod Manager error when I try to apply <insert mod name here>. Please update the mod.

Posts like this will start getting deleted if it's already been fixed. It's your job to check the mod in question's thread for an update. If you post stuff like this, it proves that you didn't take the time to read what you should have.

8) How do I install this mod? I don't know what to do with .s2z files or .honmod files.

Read the above issues or read the mod thread to see if it has any special instructions.

9) This mod does not work.

If you don't give us any information on what doesn't work specifically, be it a function of a certain mod, an error with the mod manager, etc, we can not help you. And since we can't help you without information, your post will be deleted. If you want help, help yourself by giving information about the problem.

10) How do I type in color in-game?

You use ^XXX where the Xs are three numbers representing Red, Green and Blue ranging from 0 to 9. For example ^900 would be red, ^090 would be green and ^009 would be blue. You can also use ^r^b^c^y^m^v ^w and ^k (Black)

11) What heroes/players will my texture for <hero> be applied to?

Textures will show on the hero no matter who is playing the hero. Say you get a texture for Zephyr, his new texture will be shown on Zephyr no matter who is playing him. However, only you will see any custom textures you have. (Unless other players in the game also have the same texture downloaded)
