What is this?
This is a program that will allow you to choose what model each hero should have. This will force the model to your client, so no matter what model is selected, you will see the chosen model.
The program will then create a HeroModels.honmod file that you can add to your HoN ModMan.

Info about re-downloading:
When a new version comes out, you only need to re-download "Model Changing Program" aka "HeroModels.exe". You then overwrite the old "HeroModels.exe" with your new one.

How do I use this program?
Make sure both "HeroModels.exe" and "Ionic.Zip.dll" is in the same folder, and open the HeroModels.exe. Now you can select what heroes you want to force a model on. If you select "Standard", you will force the standard/1.0 model. If you select "Alternative", you will force the alternative model. If you select "Dynamic", HoN will decide what model will be viewed. When you are done, you click "Compile", and the program will create a "HeroModels.honmod". Now all you have to do is add it as a normal mod, using the HoN ModMan (http://forums.heroesofnewerth.com/showthread.php?t=25883). In the ModMan, the mod is called "Customized Hero Models".
TL;DR:
- Both files in same folder.
- Open "HeroModels.exe" and select models.
- Click compile, and copy the "HeroModels.honmod" to your mod folder and procede as usual. ("Customized Hero Models")
Forced? Dynamic? say wut?
I have simply "made up" two categories "Forced" and "Dynamic".
Forced: This is when you force a client-side model, and this is what the mod will do. This will force a specific model to be shown for you (and you only), no matter what model is selected. Both alternative and standard models can be forced.
Dynamic: This is the way HoN normally handles models. The chosen model will show.
Still confused? Example time!
Player 1 got my mod, and forces all the standard models.
Player 2 got my mod, and forces all the alternative models.
Player 3 got no mods (aka all dynamic models)
Player 1 choses Witch Slayer (Standard), Player 2 choses Female Pyromancer and Player 3 choses Scorpion Magmus. What will be displayed?
Player 1: Standard Witch Slayer, Male Pyromancer, Standard Magmus.
Player 2: Pimp Slayer, Female Pyromancer, Scorpion Magmus.
Player 3: Standard Witch Slayer, Female Pyromancer, Scorpion Magmus.
I can explain more if you need.
What happens when more models come out?
When new models come out I will make the appropriate changes to the program, and I will also release a dummy mod. The dummy mod is just a simple mod that reminds you that you will need to download a new version of my program. This means you have several ways to check if there is a new update:
Through the HoN ModMan.
Through the program itself.
By checking in on this thread.
Through the HoN ModMan:
If there is a newer version of my program out, then you will be able to update your mod.
Through the program itself, there are 2 ways:
- When you click the "Check for new version" button, the footer will tell you if there is a newer version ready.
- When you open the program and go to the "Options", you can activate "Automatic Version Check". This will be the same as clicking the "Check for new version" every time you open the program.
If there is a new version out, then you should check back at this thread and download the new "HeroModels.exe". You do not need to re-download any other files. One easy way to get back to this exact thread, is by clicking the "Get new version"-button in the program.
Known bugs:
- Not tested: If you use a screen resolution of less than ~ 860x650, then it might be hard to use the program.
- You probably need .NET Framework 4 (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/netframework/aa569263).
- Seems to only work for Windows. If anyone knows how to convert a vB.NET program to Linux/Mac, please take the time to show me.

Just played with this for a minute. You gotta recode some things.
1) You don't need !CDATA, only if there is a "<" in the line
2) If you use <editfile name ="">, make sure you use "\", not "/". The only 2 heroes your app did it right were WS and MQ. (only tried 5)
3) Pyro has a body.entity, Some alt_announcers have no file -> thus no sound
...and I'm interested in this:

If you do not find your config.ini file, it does not matter: The program will create one when it is needed.
Right now Glac alt ain't showing, when you set the mod to alternative.
Otherwise great work with the mod.

Edit: I found the problem. I forgot to add back a line that I had commented out. Should be up and working now again! Redownload the program and it should be fine :)
(To others: Problem was that Glacius was showing up as dynamic if you chose him as Alternative. :) )

That is the source, if you want to see the code. To open it, you use a normal text-editor like Notepad or Notepad++ (http://notepad-plus-plus.org/download). You will not be able to run the program through any of those programs though, as you will need this (http://www.autoitscript.com/autoit3/downloads.shtml) program to compile it.
If you only want to use the program, download HoNSkins.exe (http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5722133/HonSkins/HoNSkins.exe) instead. :)

Oh my god, I want to dl so bad, but for some reason (I use GoogleChrome) when I click the HoNSkins.exe link, I get stuck on the dl process starting... It's only been like 5 minutes, so I'll edit if it works later.

Swiftblade avatar IS coming soon. I will release a version now, that probably will have the wrong sound when using the ulti. I need to find out how to fix that (if I am correct about me messing things up -.- ).
Next version 1.14 will be a TEMPORARY version, with Kraken and Flint fixed according to the Patch Notes (http://forums.heroesofnewerth.com/showthread.php?t=213149), and Swiftblade added (with bugs)
Edit: Swiftblade and 1.14 is released. Please give feedback on the Swiftblade, specifically the ultimate! :) To update: Use the built-in updater in my program! :D Remember that all your previous choices are stored in "config.ini", so that you only need to add the new ones (like Swiftblade) :)

Sometimes, when I compile, i don't get the honmod file. instead, i get a zip file and an xml file, that i cannot delete. i have to back into the thingy and press compile again and again until it works. Is this a bug, or is it just the program taking a while to compile and spit out the honmod?

This is a bug/wrong use of the program. If you have mod.xml, heroskins.honmod or heroskins.zip opened in another program, then it might bug itself like that. Also, do not be to quick after the program has closed, let it have 5-10 seconds if you keep having these problems. :)

I did not quite understand that line. If you are wondering if this program could harm your computer, then it must have been because of an evil AutoIt-plot. :P The .ini file is just a text file, which contains the settings you made in the program. You can open it with Notepad to see the information there, and you can see the source of my program to see that it does not include any viruses/trojans.

Looking at your signature and account-image I do not know if you are serious or not, but I will respond to you in a serious and mature way. AutoIt is a scripting-language, and can be used to create viruses, keyloggers, trojans and other evil programs. Therefore some antiviruses will detect every AutoIt-script as a threat, and therefore block it. But AutoIt can be used for more useful programs than evil programs, such as this program. You can read through the Source I linked in the first post with Notepad if you want to, and if needed, I will comment every part of the code so it gets easier to understand.

IamKongor, I do not know why that happens to you. My BitDefender Total Security 2010 does not find any threats in my program. It looks like the way AutoIt compiles my script from a .au3 to a .exe adds some code that 3 antivirus-programs find threatening. These are false-positives though, so no need to worry at all.

at least i do not seem to have a problem with this and the s2z character skin files i have before using this. just wanted to at least have the option to use some of the alt skins. but putting those that have alts to standard seems to allow me to have the other skins active.
strangely i still have no idea were the heck i have the defiller as Karagan(s2) skin that for some reason is still active lol. was gonna switch out for more pogs skins. wherever he is....sigh.

Major revamp ongoing. I am converting the program into Visual Basic .NET(VB.NET), due to VB.NET got more functions, and is easier to work with. Look forward to an easier to use program (less bugs), and more functionality!
As of now, I have converted most of the program, and it is working.
Todo list:
- Maybe add an auto-update function again, but only if I can do it better than with AutoIt (I was not happy with the way I did it before)
- Testing for bugs.
New things added:
- "All Standard" and "All Alternative" have been added in addition to the "Reset All"(All Dynamic)
- A "Help (?)" button, with descriptions.
- Posibility to disable/enable automatic version-check everytime the program is opened.
- Posibility to add your own icon to the mod (to be shown in the HoN ModMan)

oh, I didnt even run the program, I deleted the .exe myself right after updating, since you are reworking the whole updating-process, you should try to avoid that, because it can confuse ppl :)

point 2 and 3 were connected. because the changed heroes werent highlighted, I wasnt sure if the program read the .ini file and used my previously selected hero choices.
So I was afraid that when applying the newly complied honmod, I would only find my latest changes in the game.
It worked flawless, but confusing/ insecuring at first.

I am sorry, but the problem is that AutoIt is not compatible with Linux. It is probably a lot of stuff that is OS-related, such as APIs and paths that bug up the whole program and it spits out a corrupted honmod.

As I said in my previous post, I am changing to VB.NET, maybe that will help Linux users? I do not know.

I am sorry, but the problem is that AutoIt is not compatible with Linux. It is probably a lot of stuff that is OS-related, such as APIs and paths that bug up the whole program and it spits out a corrupted honmod.

As I said in my previous post, I am changing to VB.NET, maybe that will help Linux users? I do not know.

A few problems I have noticed.. With gladiator, there is no impact sound for his Pitfall.. like when it bursts up it's silent, when in Alternate model. Also for alternate, when you select to cast pitfall or ultimate it has a single target selection cursor thing instead of the area of effect indicator

Okay I understand. :) The old version was in AutoIt, but VB.NET got more features, and makes it easier to maintain, and easier to fix bugs that I had no idea on how to solve in AutoIt. :)

Durandal_, you are correct, those were the christmas ones that were released for free. :) Maliken also had a christmas model (Maliclause), but they removed him due to his ultimate was bugged. I think they might be bugged though, and I will look into it as soon as I can.

Thank you for your program. seems to be working for everyone.. except me. I have downloaded the program itself adn the file "Ionic.Zip.dll" and i have them in the same folder, the original where they go when i downloaded them. When I try to run the program i get an error message saying something about that I need to install .Net Framework. I have downloaded the file for .Net Framework and when i run it said that .Net Framework already is installed as a part of the OS. Is there a specific folder they are supposed to be in?
this is driving me crazy!

i doubt there is much need for anything outside of normal .s2z files for most skin changed. yet i was wondering if this program could/does have the option to make up a interface that has all the heroes shown like the normal character select screen. were you could select a certain hero, and it would pop up a box like the alt skins have in game. may be overdoing it, but could be a cool way to organize all of you custom skins if you have any. maybe even to help with any incompatibilities as well, especially with some skins just being random numbers.
anyway, thanks for the program. i look forward to any improvements you may have in store for a already great program.

Doesn't work this way. If you set up a preview you can't use anything not purchased. The heroes are loaded while you start HoN -> the only option to have a defined hero is to overwrite the rest.
You could do that if you purchased some heros and overwrite the first and second one with custom models
That would be a tremendous amount of work as most custom models are .s2z and you'd have to rewrite most of the entities as <editfile> only (to avoid incompatibilities)
Skins aren't incompatible if they are different heroes. It's just the user (idiots) who tries to use two custom models for the same hero. This and some incompatibilies with other mods using the same files (AOE Range Indicators + Cloud Watcher or a mod altering the icon_name)

sorry for my unclear comment, i simply hadnt realized that there was allready a new program out that was under the same link. i guess i caught the tale end of the first version, and didnt see the switch to the new one. i was just using the first ones update function and thought there wasnt anything else out yet. my fault there.
not sure exactly why but norton internet security found the program to be a threat. i guess for being so new, and no ratings. just had to redownload and tell it to trust it.
used and changed over skins, but havent tested to see if all works in game yet. although i imagine it does so,

Version 2.05 is out, which supports custom icons!
Remember that the icon needs to be 48x48 pixels! If you do not use this size, it will probably just show up blank in HoN ModMan. I also added my own custom icon to the complete mods.

There are some boxes in the lower left corner.
Author: Xplittr , and it only displays: Xplit and you can see letter getting cut by the frame of the next box.
Same applies for the version number and the other thingies :(

I'm having problems with the "No alt hero models" version. Hon mod manager is unable to apply it since the 2.0.14 patch. It gives the following message instead, and won't let me apply mods until I disable no alt hero models.
No alt hero models caused a problem:
Could not find string starting with "preglobalscale="1.52" as sought by line 27 of C:\\(Hon folder)\game\mods\HeroModelsNoAlts.honmod\mod.xml
This might be caused by the mod being outdated or by an incompatibility with another enabled mod.
I know for sure that the mod is not outdated nor incompatible with anything: My only other mods are

Uh, tried to edit my .honmod myself, discovered that modding is quite easy if you dominate the files locations, yet I had a few doubts.
To add the Tempest, for an example, I can start the new editfile section anywhere in the file or I have do follow an (alphabetical) order?
Plus I noticed some other sections had different commands, like Magmus, so I didn't want to try to add it myself.
Looking forward to an update!

No I will not create a simple s2z file, as the HoN ModMan does that for you, plus a .honmod checks for errors when applying (incompatibilities) and is updateable.
I see. But what if I don't want the new announcer, but just to replace it with the default announcer? Can you help with that?

I don't think I am going to add a button to the program to do that. I will rather add a mod-download link at the first post. If the ModMan gets updated so I can easily add support for changing sounds via 0.s2z, then I will add announcers to the program. :)

I cant see Soul Reapers projectiles anymore. He shoots them, it plays the sound, and i see the impact animation + sound, but the projectiles themselfes are invisible. I used the "all standard" button.

Is there a mod that would allow us to choose which model we see in game without having to pay for it? It would only use the new models when chosen.
Basically, when you currently play, if you have purchased a mod, it allows you to choose between the two. I'm wondering if there is a mod that would allow you to choose in game, as you pick a hero with an alternate mod, which model you would like.

2.10 is now out!!!
New things:
- Made some changes to the UI, so the selection looks like the in-game selection, not the one at the website (http://www.heroesofnewerth.com/heroes).
- Added the new skin for Valkyrie. (As Swiftblade, this will keep working after the sales stop)
- Added Aluna to the selection screen, but as she has no alternate model, she is greyed out like the others.

It should create a "HeroModels.honmod". Please make sure you have the newest version of the program. (Edit: I noticed the typo in the first post. This is fixed now. It should create a "HeroModels.honmod", not "heroskins.honmod".

You don't need <copyfile/> at all!
It's just a missing line, the devs forgot it. Ppl using your app will have the right death animation, regular users won't :D.

Note that you have to consider some files e.g. Glads Chariot.
I double-check the folders and look for iffy files, like the body.entity.

The file for clips and sounds. And death.effect ;).

Always around if there is a .mdf! This file refers to the stuff in texture.s2z

Animation of the projectile. With the custom avatars available around here one of the most difficult files. Alt Avatars with altered projectile (Pimp Slayer, Moon Queen) need some love, e.g. a different path for trail or impact.

Right now, I
1) Remove the altavatars *Done
2) Take a look at the valk trail (rapozaum, another mod) *Done
3) Fix Glads Chariot (forgot that myself, didn't notice) *Done
As a reminder for the rest of you:
.s2z are applied after .honmods (afaik). Meaning if you use this app and additional custom heroes (like valk) you might get teapots or other errors.
Thats why I prefer .honmods over .s2z.

You want Pimp Slayer and get an error while using no mods. Odd.
The model works on my end... I can apply it and reviewed the files, there is nothing wrong!
You get an error while opening the default_projectile.entity and altering the paths to get Pimp Slayer.
Maybe missing permissions on your computer?! Try admin mode for the .exe.
Other than that, I have no idea :(

I am on leave until thursday, and have limited resources for updating the mod atm (on my netbook -.-). But following features are coming:
- More of Aw´Af's goodies (He is a lot better than me at coding new avatars/fixing bugs, so I "steal" a lot of my code from him :D )
- Hero Icons instead of buttons (New UI!!!!), which will look a lot like the in-game selection :D
- Possibility to use purchased models, no matter what settings you use on my program.
I will not troubleshoot anything until thursday, as I am on vacation with my gf atm too. I will however do my best and try to solve all your problems when I get back. :)

For your next bug reports:
1) Operation System (Win 7 x32, Win 7 x64 etc.)
2) Check permissions (UAC activated?, admin mode?)
3) Microsoft Framework 4.x installed?
4) Delete all unnecessary .s2z. Why? Simple example:
You want Pimp Slayer but use one of the custom hero models. The ModManager applies Pimp Slayer via this app but the .s2z overwrites the changes with old hero.entity values thus giving you errors / a teapot.
So, this works, but Im the only one who can see the different model right?, let say, I want to choose the female model of Swift, I can see my new model, but other players wont, cuz this is a client only change, am I right?

1. My mod is not the problem. If you set a hero to "Dynamic", the mod will not touch the hero. If you still encounter the problem, try to delete your "config.ini" and select your settings again, and report back to me.
2. This seems to be because you have a corrupt version of resources0.s2z. Please reinstall HoN. This is of course only if you do not have any other .honmod enabled. Custom .s2z files do not make the HoN ModMan give this error, but they might give an error in-game.
For those who uses a s2z to show the bright spear, this mod won't work with Valk.
I downloaded the valk trail .honmod, and it did not give me any errors. So if you want this mod, use the .honmod instead of .s2z.

There is the full source. I have commented it pretty well I think, so it should not be that big of a problem to just add more heroes as they come, if you know how to do that normally (using <editfile /> with .honmod, not <copyfile />). Check the "Temp" folder for the hero-codes. Also added the version where I added all the pics. Might want to re-do it to black-white or something, if you want to stick on to it.
Have fun anyone wanting to try it out!

None. I will leave it to others to do it. However, in the "Test with pictures", i have added a "Alternative 2" button, so it's easy to chose between them both! You might however want to add a system to prevent heroes with one alt_model to get access to the button. Have phun!

The fact you don't understand how Xplitter was insulting you, is fairly amusing
And I wasn't judging you on your psr, I was judging you on your inability to read, the PSR just more or less clinches it

Before 2.0 there was a "red bubble" showing that I had a msg but now there is nothing :(.
I didn't ignore you on purpose, I just don't see these kind of messages.

No mate. :) Thing is I have probably not played HoN in ~1 month as per now, as I started playing RIFT instead :P
But I will still have HoN installed in case I feel for taking a game or two :)

I accept Xplittr's choice as I appreciated his job (and Awan's) in these months and wish him luck in what he will decide to do next.
@Awan, can I hope you will keep working on this awesome program? It made HoN so much better for me and other folks and got so much success it would be a real shame to let it go now.

That's what I'm gonna try and do today, depending on how or how not complicated the coding is
EDIT: I've learned several things so far
I don't know as of yet how to make the same program as Xplitter did, as I'm not certain how, but I can make some honmods to give you whatever alternative hero you want
EDIT2: Nope nevermind, more time needed to understand this ****...

In the character select screen, when you have alternates on the Tundra and Slither pictures don't even show up. The only one that worked was Quadraped Tremble.

It means when I try to use slither the alternative version of slither, he disappears from the game, and if he gets selected, HoN crashes
Now this new version, I can't even apply the honmod, it says it's missing coding in line 29

not sure if it could be that i have some existing .s2z files for some hero skins, but the mod keeps causing an error. even when applying only this one mod. perhaps i need to set some things as dynamic or something? didnt have issues with other version overwriting that if there were though.

@Durandal: I cant reproduce that crash problem.
@RufiO_o: If you get an error when applying, try deleting the resources999.s2z first, and then apply all your mods again.
When you got an special skin for eg. Arachna, set her to grey(dynamic) then there wont be any compatibility issues.

i found some bugs, keeper's alt dont walk, just slide trough the map, and gauntlet alt turn back to original when he uses infernal instability, but, the mod is still awesome, (:

Can't see Witch's attack projectile. Got him on Standard.

Just tried it, both alternative and standard and they are both working.
Didnt change anything there so there shouldnt be any problem anyways.
Anyone else got Aizen's problem? Maybe some Mod incompatibility?
Please try only loading the WS alt model without any other mods and see if there is still a problem.

Just opened the program to see what would happen with the two rampage skins. If you click "All Standard" or "All Alternative", then I get unsure about which Rampage is chosen. :P

for whatever annoying reason, after downloading the v2.14 the program doesn't even open anymore. i am prompted by uac but nothing happens afterwards. dunno if norton ISecurity might be stopping it, as i already had to take it out of quarantine.

forget my idiotic comment a while ago, more of a damn windows and norton net security. all was working, and thank you for the easy color coding of all characters and the update. by the time i had made all my dumb posts i was already noticing the update for a new version ahead of what i just had gotten.
