Default Alternate Hero Avatar

Currently, you have to pick your alternate avatar at the start of every match you play. As S2 adds more alternates, maybe 2-3 skins for the same hero, this will not scale. And it's a tad bit annoying having to click again when you have your hero right-clicked, waiting for the timer to run out as you discuss.

I propose an interface similar to the account icon chooser, but for hero avatars. You fix a default, and whenever you play that hero, your default will get selected. This will centralise the addons stuff, making it less confusing.

This will also remove the need to show all hero avatars every time you pick a hero, which can be separated out to show only when one clicks the blue icon in the corner of the portrait. The portrait in the roster itself can be the portrait for the selected default (only for the current player of course).

Personally, it's kind of a no-brainer. I would hate for this to not get implemented because it didn't become 'popular'.

My guess is that S2 is aware of this thread, gamecompanies usually have people to monitor the forums 24/7, they're called comunity managers and is the link between us and S2.
I'm sure they've weighted this against other stuff that they have on their list.
Even thought it's a good suggestion doesn't mean it'll be implemented, there might just be too many other things with higher priority.

The thing is, I'm an interface designer by profession (Actually a Computer Engineering student, but I have about 5 years experience in the field professionally), and this is a rather decent sized goof up. It's not about priority, it's about their current setup which kinda detracts from using alt-avatars in the first place, which I think they want us to do more of.

Like I said, it's a very obvious thing, so I'll probably not get the Alchemist Bones icon for this, but I rather see it get implemented than not.

unless there already is a way, its possible there is and i haven't realised, but there ought to be a button somewhere to allow you to change your skin selection after having picked a hero in the event that you don't feel like playing your default for a change, say if as you suggest they add more than 1 skin for a hero and you like both?

Totally like the idea, sometimes when I random late I don't get enough time to pick my alt avatar and yeah, I have like 10 so far. I'd love to see this implement in the interface and/or allow us to swap avatars while ingame.

Except that we shouldn't need a mod for this. Not everybody wants to/can install mods (I'm a Mac user, and mods on Macs are ... uncomfortable).

Sometimes you want to see what others pick before u pick ur hero, and clicking the alt avatar takes time aswell...

Yeah, this happens a lot to me, but with other alt avatars i have, when picking alt avatars, there's a slight lag and the timer runs out. and then it either randoms a hero for me which is even worse.

Do you know how many times I've been stuck with default avatar, because I couldn't click the alt avatar quick enough?

Here is how my hero selection process usually goes:

-Game Loads
-I ghost pick my hero to allow my team to know what I am going
-I then spend the next minute looking at enemy player stats
-Change ghost pick if needed
-Once the 5 Sec countdown starts I panic and look for the hero to choose the alt avatar.. only to not get there in time.
- GG default avatar...

I have heaps of alt avatars I would sure hope this were to be implemented. I think it could be as simple as the default avatar the "last one you chose in your last game" because then you could easily repick the original one if you wanted to...but to be honest I bought my alt avatar to use it all the games OR Skull's suggestion: http://i924.photobucket.com/albums/ad88/Sku1l/Sanstitre-10.jpg

Searched, found nothing. Found out it was a popular - silly me now put work on mods to remove my thread. Awesome suggestion, this is exactly what I find needed!

I would like to put my proposals to solutions to the problem here anyways:



(1) Make players able to 'default' the avatar they like the most for all heroes. This way, one doesn't have to choose the alt avatar at the picking phase.
(2) Make players able to ghost-pick not only the heroes but also avatars - this way one can.

Both suggestions I do find being ever so slightly flawed: (1) would, if programmed this way, remove the ability to choose the avatar of one's liking during picking. However, I see no reason to not keep the old feature, perhaps with the addition of a toggle button in options. (2) is flawed in swapping scenarios and in AP scenarios where one's ghost-picked hero is taken by someone else and one therefore randoms. See (1) for a possible solution to this matter.
