***This is a post to help new players, do not flame or noob bash here, if you are unable to carry on a mature discussion please move on***

I am not the greatest player, average would be what I call myself. I have however played long enough to know that there are some very useful tips for new players and wanted to get them out and hopefully help some new players in the process.

1. Survive/STAY ALIVE. When your a new player your game play is severely set back by the learning curve and quantity of information that is needed to play. Items, Heroes and their abilities, terrain. Unwarranted deaths will drain you of gold and experience. It will cause you to fall behind your team and push your opponents into a greater advantage. I know that a low health NME to a new player is like waving a red flag in front of a bull. Resist the temptation to bum rush the tower and go for the kill. More times then not you will die and it is not worth it.

2. LAST HIT/DENY. Get into a practice game and work on last hit and Deny. While you will not have an opponent to play with, you will be able to better learn the attack delays and animation of heroes. Last hitting is simply hitting the enemy creeps when they are low enough health that your single attack will kill them. Denying is doing the same thing, but is force attacking (use the attack button or hot key) your own creeps. Denying takes away experience and Gold from your enemy. It will help you gain an early advantage over your opponent. Do not auto attack in a lane that you are sharing with an Enemy Player. Easiest way to not auto attack is keep you hero moving behind the creep line until you need to last hit/deny, then use the attack command to do so.

3. ITEM BUILDS. As a new player you need to jump into a practice game and figure out simple item builds for hero types. These simple item builds will help you progress in the game easier. You will be able to shop quicker and have less down time looking for things. Understand that these item builds are simply to aid you in moving along in the game. Item builds will have to be tailored to specifically counter your opponents abilities. This is however, not something you need to worry about just yet. Understand what starting items you would like to start out with/build, know where they are in the shops. This is crucial to keeping your hero in lane and farming as much as possible.

4. STATS. There are 3 types of stats in the game. STR(strength), AGI (Agility), and INT (intelligence). Each stat servers a different function. STR adds HP to all heroes and adds Attack dmg to STR based hero's
AGI adds attack speed and A/C to all heroes and adds attack DMG to AGI based heroes
INT adds mana to all heroes and adds attach dmg to INT based heroes.
If you look at the bottom of your character window you will see 3 sets of numbers. Lets say you have 33 24 35. Normally the highest number (and the one that is cast in yellow/gold text) is the stat that your hero is based on or referred to as the hero's PRIMARY STAT. This is the stat you need to pay most attention to building for MOST heroes. There are some that are different. This can be covered later.

5. COUNTER. As you play, you will need to counter other heroes abilities with your item build. If they have Thunderbringer, Pyromancer or any other heavy magic dealing character or NUKER. Then you to need to build an anti-magic item. The most common and least work intensive item is called the "SHAMAN'S HEADDRESS". This item will give you magic armor and a few other nice stats such as health regen. This will help you survive the magical attacks of heroes and increase your survivability in team combat that has nukers. Same can be said against heavy melee heroes, a good counter is to build an item that increases your Armor to negate the dmg you will receive. There are several of this type.

6. STACKING. In HoN unlike in dota, most of the "orb" affects stack. ORB effects are those that adds certain automatic abilities to your auto-attack. LIfesteal, manadrain, slow/cold shot, and Armor Reduction are all orb effects that can stack. Some heroes excel at orb stacking. Moonqueen is one of them as the orb effects traverse her bouncing attacks. Meaning that the orb effects work for every bounce. Become familiar with these orb effects as they will help you later in your games.

7. DON'T BE A SHEEP. Do not let others talk you into pushing a bad situation that will result in you being killed simply so they might have a chance to gain a kill. This is a team based game yes, and you might be playing the tank. However I will say that its your neck on the line. If you do not feel comfortable with any given situation then pull back and make it known that you do not feel its a good idea. Better that you retreat and regroup, then push an unfavorable position.

***This is all for now. I know there are things I have not covered. If you have anything to add, any suggestions to make in order to help the newest members of HoN please do so. If I have made a mistake in any post, please inform me so that it might be corrected.***
