Game freezes, screen goes black on startup. fatal error given

When I try to start hon it opens a black screen and gives a fatal error that i can't see. I can alt+tab to it and hit enter to shut it down but i cant see anything. It was working until i updated my video driver for my nvidia 8600 gt from 6.14.12.5896 to 6.14.12.6099. Now the card says it updated the driver but when i check the console log after the failed start up it says that the driver is the old version. The last thing the log says is:

Starting Direct3D
Using Direct3D exclusive mode
Creating pure hardware transform and lighting device
Wrote: c:/Documents and Settings/******/My Documents/Heroes of Newerth/game/startup.cfg

So i assume the game is crashing because its accessing the wrong drivers? how do i fix this?

Uninstall the driver and then download an older version. You could also try reinstalling the current driver and rebooting a couple times. There was one driver update a few months ago that required a few reboots for it to completely install and configure itself.
