Devourer Wars ALPHA


Abilities 1 (hook, upgrade range) and 2 (upgrade speed) work, abilities 3 and 4 don't yet. Three working items: Pebble's Hand (toss enemies), Pharaoh's Grapple (grab onto posts and pull yourself to them), and Unstable Keg (just a mine, not finished yet... you'll be able to use Pebble's Hand to toss the mines when it's done). They have five levels (buy the recipe 5 times).

Try it out! Cooldowns will not be so low in any release versions, they're low for testing purposes. In fact, ALL numbers will be changed at some point. Make sure you host it with normal mode, not casual mode.

Changelog:

ALPHA
v.01: Initial release
v.02: Added new item, Unstable keg (unfinished)


Known issues:

Map needs to be loaded twice for Pharaoh's Grapple to work
Some people experience visual bugs in the map (white water, everything black, etc)
A myriad of hook bugs...

Yeah, that's the plan. We'll do our best to replicate it.

Yeah, pretty much. I wish we could get some information on how multiplayer maps will be played.

I can't remember if that little "post" blocked Pudge's Hook in WC3 or not though. If it does then you'll need to do something similar to Kraken's projectile stopping mechanic (such that if it hits a tree or a cliff, it'll stop - you can obviously customize this to your needs).

I don't know if there's a trait the posts will have that is unique to them, but you can substitute them with trees if need be.

I actually just finished the "grappling hook" item... which allows you to grapple on to the posts and pull yourself to them. It's pretty much just a modified pharaoh ult. I set the targetscheme to "trees", then made their type "prop_trees" or whatever. :)

In pudge wars it did... the code involved with that is ridiculous, though. So i think this is only going to be able to have straight hooks. :( At least for now.

The Phara's item doesn't work for me.
Dunno why, but I couldn't grapple to anything.:phar:

Just tested them out.

The size of the hook from his (3rd?) skill doesnt seem to actually be increasing. I may have just not noticed, but it looks the same size at all levels.

The items are working good, except for his toss ability it creates a teapot under the hero..you're missing a model in that ability.

I'm aware of the teapot, cba to fix it yet.

Maybe used the first release gauntlet codes in this time 2 skill use the vector,maybe if some one have this will help in this map.

still doesnt work, spell is invis.

Just got around to trying this out.

Never played dev wars in the old days, but this has been really fun so far.

Totally buggy ( though I completely understand why and expected it), but the bugs are fun to play with. The zero cooldowns on the toss item are hilarious to watch if you activate it fast enough.

Great work so far and looking forward to future developments.

I got a problem. When I enter the map everything is black except for my skillbar. Even the minimap is completely black except for some markers like my devourer and the shops. The funny thing is that if I tab down to windows and then back up again I can see everything normal for a short moment until it fades to black again :S :zeph:

Did you chose legion side in the lobby? if not, it wont work. at least not properly.

wouldn't it be a lot easier to check if there is a gadget at that "post" and if theres no gadget spawn one that is hookable, only suffers from physical damage and has 1 hp?
i never worked myself into the hon scripting language, but my idea would be a single line of code in pretty much every language i know.

I set the entity type to "prop_tree" and made the targetscheme only hit trees. Easy enough.



Did you chose legion side in the lobby? if not, it wont work. at least not properly.
It should completely skip the hero pick screen, and I always use the first legion slot. o.O

I am not working on this map until I get some information I need. I was already working on the headshot system, though :)

Thank you, i was trying to figure out how to test for a unit being hooked :)

Question: If the second hooker (lol) is an ally, will it deny the hookee?

Oh, one more thing... I'm trying to make it so you can toss mines (kegs), but i can't seem to get it to work. You can hook the mines, but you can't toss them. I messed with the targetschemes, immunities, unittypes... it just won't work. The only thing i can think of is that the proxy doesn't recognize gadgets as a valid thing to toss...

Mine gadget

Toss ability

If i remove push from the immunity, it should work right?

Edit3: no it doesn't, it just instakills anything you hook. -_-

Go into your Heroes of Newerth folder, then go into the "game" folder and then the "maps" folder. Put the map in this folder, when you get into the game, you should see the map in the list of maps when you host.

I am still waiting on some information before I continue anyway, when I find that out... i can decide whether or not I want to finish this map. I will definitely finish my HoN ball map, but I've lost my drive due to the fact we have zero support from S2.
