Mathematics behind Steam Turret is a geometric series:

http://i52.tinypic.com/339mu14.jpg

a = 10,20,30,40 for levels 1,2,3,4 respectively of Steam Turret
r = 0.9
n = # of bullets hit

Why did you feel like changing the past mechanics?

ElementUser

I didn't do it btw

So I don't know

Ah, thought that you might have had a hand in the change.

I did test out the new turret in my last game. I dont really know what to think of it, it seems well balanced with the damage output tweak and all. The turret looks kind of ridiculous with its uber fast attack speed though. Thats probably my only major qualm about it.

Didnt need change imo, last turret was quite okay.

last turret did how much dmg?
for comparison ofc, but then i love this 1.

hm.. i've a question to the geometric series..

So n is the number of hits but whats r and a exactly...
Are whose just variables which help calculating or are with such things as number of hits.. i'm just interessted.. if its to much to ask its ok too..

"r" is the amount each subsequent hit deals in relation to the previous shot. Since r=0.9, it means each shot is 90% of the shot before it.

"a" is the initial/first value of the Geometric Series

The turret's easier to use now, but seems to reward good placement a little less.

Thumbs up for the changes though.

How much dmg does it now at lvl 4 without items?

And how does it scale with items now?

Vahn

Turret doesn't scale with items, you can work out how much damage it does with that formula above, hitting all 50 bullets at level 4 does 398.145 physical damage.

It only does ~400dmg with lvl 4 turret if ALL 50 bullets hit? I could swear it does more dmg.. Oh well, maybe it's just me.

Feels weaker than before for me. Is this a nerf?

It's physical damage, so it gets reduced by physical armor.

He said it does more not less, btw.

They must of changed engi's turret like 4-6 times by now.

He said he "swore it did more damage", which implies that "Turret seems weaker than he thought".

I think they changed it now. Tooltip even says 300 magic damage.
:balp:

Nope, the math remains the same. They made it like that to keep thing simple for new players :P

The damage type got changed to magic though, that is true.

Smart-ass stuff.
Still can't forget that guy that calculated N'aix hits with Desolator (Shield breaker) in top notch smart-ass math.
Or that guy that did a "Geophysical survey" of the World of Warcraft planet AKA Azeroth.
Anyway can anyone tell me what was gay about the old turret that fired one bullet at a time ??

Geometric series is really easy, I learned that in 11th grade.

:/

Not so top-level stuff.

I was scrolling thru heart prefixed threads and came across this one and noticed the same error I pointed out in this thread: http://forums.heroesofnewerth.com/showthread.php?t=334262

The formula you provided in the first post is incorrect for n terms. A geometric series of n terms terminates with a power of n-1, not n.

Here's why:
http://i52.tinypic.com/339mu14.jpg

If you plug n=1 into your formula it gives 76 instead of 40 (the damage of 1 bullet). You are one bullet ahead my friend.

The upper bound is 397.94 not 398.14.

Here is the complete table for turret damage:

i loved the turret much better when we could put a charged hammer on it. that was fun.
engineer used to be a good carry :<

Yeah, there once was this hero called turret who could spawn an engineer on certain locations.

Whereas now it's a hero called spider mines who spends most of the game AFK and everybody thinks is a nasty troll.

Engineer is still a very strong hero. Max out keg/turret first and see how you do. He has about 600 burst damage with a good stun a pushing slow.

Play your lane like you would normally and you'll see how good engi can be. Dont even worry about mines untli level 10/12/13/14. Mine's are better used to put one on every ramp AS YOU WALK BY. Don't spend ANY of your time stacking mines.

Oh I agree - if you want to actually win Mines are pretty trash. But that's how people at my MMR play him and it's just troll and nothing more.
Engineer was one of my most played back in the day, I really feel he lost a lot of what made him interesting when they replaced Tinker with mines, and stream turret with the new version.
Mines are not a valuable skill by and large, but are rather frustrating for the opposing team nonetheless.

Agility hero who feels like he ought to be an Int hero in my book.
