Hello HoN players,

I have a weird problem when looking at the menus in Heroes of Newerth. When I try to search a game or just do nothing after logging in, my graphic card is making much noise. The strangest thing is it won't even make 10/20% of that noise in-game. The settings are at the highest.

I once read that in a game, cant remember which one, graphic cards got killed due the parameter of the fps in the menus was unlimited. That means that graphic cards would try to generate as much as fps at the menus as they can. If they are doing that the card will get warm so it needs to get cooled, in most cases the fan will rotate at more RPM. Which increases the noise.

At the last patches my graphics card was making more noise than in-game too, but since the new patch it's even making more noise. Pretty annoying.

Specs:
Intel Q9550 @2,83GHz
XFX Radeon 4870 1GB
4GB GeiL Gaming RAM

Settings:
Highest.

Kind regards and thanks for helping,
Awoodentree

Do a host_drawFPS 1 in the console (ctrl+f8) to show the fps. How does the lobby fps compare to in game?

The resource usage in lobby is something I've been meaning to ask about. I'll try to remember tomorrow when the programmers are online.

When I'm looking in the menus its not very consistent. It goes from 45-55 fps. In-game it's 59 FPS because I turned Vertical Sync on.

It's known that the menus do, for some reason, cause more cpu/gpu usage. I'll have to check with the programmers as to why that is.

I decided to change the cooler of my graphic card.
