View Full Version : [Support] Placing textures at edge of a cliff?

Been waiting for Map Editor for ages, so couldn't wait to try to make something.
And it seems to me that it is impossible to apply a texture to the edge or the base of a cliff. The texture always leaves a space between the ground and the base of the cliff.
Wish i could make a screenshot, but it seems you cant make a screenshot from the editor :/
How to replicate: make a cliff, and try to apply a different texture to the ground then to the top of the cliff.
Am i doing something wrong here? Or is this just not right yet (being beta and all)

I'm not sure if I understood the problem 100% but maybe that will help you:
Be aware that there are 2 Layers you can paint on, one will not draw on cliff edges, the other Layer is able to draw there.
If that doesn't fix your problem, make a screenshot with the Print button on your keyboard and paste it into a editor (eg. paint) with Ctrl +V.

I tried to make a screeshot with print screen, but instead in pasted the underlying open window (skype) into paint.
I know that there are two different layers, but it can't seem to make a cliff (using cliff tool) of 1x1 and paiting on top of that cliff. Not even with the color tool.

i made a picture of a random cliff i made, maybe you can describe it better with it:

now what exactly do you mean?
do you mean the grey stone texture on the side of the cliff? Because thats something i also have to find out.

Having the same problem, you can't paint near the edges of the cliffs. You can texture them, but you can't paint them.

Actually you can you have to paint the ground also(on the bottom of the cliff) I am pretty sure you figured that out though. Best solution is to use multiple textures on the cliff and grounds or position the cliff so the excess texture are not visible.
Its also might be better you use Raise/lower than using the cliff feature.

But i believe you can't do such smooth transitions with raise/lower, like you can with the cliffs and ramps
I don't think that cliffs and ramps would be in the editor if it is so easy to do with raise/lower

What i meant was trying to paint the top of the cliff with 1 texture, while painting the ground up to the base of the cliff with another texture. Ill try to figure out why i cant make screenshots of the map editor, so i can explain it better

Print Screen, then copy into msPaint
I had the same problem:
Layer 2 is not working for that!!! You need to place texture in layer one! And use a bigger brush size to include 1-2 tiles at base. It worked for me this way.

press f5, look in my documents/heroes of newerth/editor/screenshots
also, i wasn't able to get the edges of cliffs without texturing a small section at the base of the cliff.
I think i know why. Take out the entity tool, choose select, then highlight a cliff. You'll see that the cliff pieces are shaped sorta like z's and you have to texture all of it.
