View Full Version : Soulstealer Hotkey Change

Hello,

Recently I played Soulstealer and noticed something interesting.

Currently, when you level up, you cannot select a new or level up a current spell simply via pressing the assigned hotkey.

Soulstealer has as usual 4 spells, however, 2 of these are passive abilities and hence never get clicked. Ever.

But the razes themselves as in DotA, have 3 ranges and hence have 3 clickable hotkeys.

Now unless I missed something, in which case please ignore this post, you quite literally have to click each raze manually.

Wouldn't it be much better if we reverted to DotA's useage, which had the 3 razes assigned to the standard 3 spell abilities with his ulty as the 4th.

IE, if you use QWER for your 4 spells it would look like so....

Q = Melee Raze
W = Medium Raze
E = Far Raze
R = Ultimate

yeah, noticed it too

razes are assigned to be "extra" skills so you can control them via whatever you setup in options

it would be great if they could shift them back to QWE, whenever i play soulstealer i have to redo the keybinds, cant exactly play with razes on GHJ when you have the rest of the keybinds on the left side:)

Can't say this for sure as I played him only once but I think that those hotkeys were DFG

yes, i think those are the defaults, still, there is no reason not to move these skills to "primary" buttons, he does not have any other actives other than his ultimate

Bump. Just played with him DFG moves your hand away from all the other important keys.

or u can change the bonus abilities hotkeys from gfd to cxz, which effectively makes the hotkeys exactly the same as sf

That im sure is all changeable via options.

What im suggesting is that we make his razes the default spell hotkeys

im not sure i understand your issue, we only want it to use primary hotkeys which can be set in menu ( instead of extra ones, which can be defined in options too, but they are not the same keys you are used to )

can you elaborate?

Has anyone else found that the model doesn't turn fast enough to do a 180, drop a couple of razes then continue to run? I seem to always end up casting them somewhere in between.

Z-X-C is best for the spell. D-F-G always had me hitting S and missing all 3 razes in the sequence.

I was having a lot of issues getting him pointed in the right direction, a click in the direction desired would make me much happier (Activate then click, it casts along that line but at the fixed distance)

You are able to edit your hotkeys in your options menu...

It's not what keys they use, its that they use the keys for the normal hero spells...

IE, if you normally use QWEF for your spells, make Soulstealers razes QWE, if you normally use ZXCV then use ZXC for his razes... If you like to use Q G LeftCntrl Shift+P for your spells, then use Q G LeftCntrl for his razes.

They should just make the razes mapped to the normal skills and the passives mapped to the extra skills. That way i dont have to pause and remap the extra skills to Q.W.E every time I play him.

Just my opinion: I don't see how it his hard to use 3 other keys, which you can bind just next to the normal skills keys.

because whenever you bind them it will be harder to reach his ulti and other important stuff ( items, attack/hold, control groups)

where would you bind them in standard configuration without them being a nuisance? and also, why would you have a single hero whose primary attack spells which he uses the most are not the same hotkeys as primary spells of other heros

and my thanks to hellbird for explaining this issue properly, i can't seem to make people understand me:)

Nah, I got really very well your opinion on it, and I totally agree.
I'm just pointing the fact that I personnally don't see nothing hard at using 3 extra keys.

I'm using QSD for his extra abilities, while the basic one are WXCV. (azerty)

I really don't have an issue with that and could live with it if nothing is done, but I strongly approve your idea.
Also, it looks like this system is made for further heroes having more than 3 actives abilities, making a template being easier.

"DFG" are fine, since u don't need "QWE", ultimate on "R" is also easy to use. mPoV!

I play him with D F G standard hotkeys, not a big issue for me.

It's hard for me to reach them, but that's mostly because I'm missing 2 fingers on my left hand. That being said, I support this.

I'd be happy to have nukes set to primary skill hotkeys (QWE by default), so i can play SS comfortably just as any other hero.

In DotA i used QWER (well, QWEC really) with all heroes too (modified customkeys.txt)
... and 'D' is perfect for "Hold Position" imho...

Exactly, currently you would have to reset your hotkeys every time you play soulstealer...

Really would love to hear some input from the Developers on this... Seems to be being ignored.

I think the best solution would be to allow duplicate key bindings, if that's at all possible. So one key could activate skill 1 and extra skill 1 -- then if a player wanted, they could set it up so that it's just qwer or they can leave it at the default of qwer and dfg (I think that's the default values, I rebound those myself...)

Why not just go the whole way and allow players to customize individual heroes seperately.

Currently, the sad truth is that since that is possible in DotA key scripts, the currently keybinding method is inferior to the ones available in DotA.

With a solid hotkey changer, or basic knowledge on scripting, if you want zxc for your soulstealer its yours! Here its, "it'll be the secondary spells and you will like it! Unless you start using a hotkey script!" ... Which defeats the point.

I played Soulstealer recently and found him to be excruciatingly annoying to play. Granted, I may get used to it, but it's not intuitive at all and discourages people from playing him, even though he has always been a fun hero to play in DotA. Multiple solutions have been posted in this thread and many updates have passed, yet it seems S2 has not even replied.

I support the ideas of both Bianary and HellbirD. It doesn't seem like it would be too difficult to do, and it would certainly help make future hero additions more flexible. With the advanced engine of HoN dedicated to DotA, I don't see why this area hasn't been at least put on par with the lackluster capabilities of WC3 and third-party tools.

DFG is a pain in the a**. since the other 2 spells are passive just let it be QWE+R.

I do... every time i play the hero... Yaaawn.... Thread gets ignored as usual... I'll just keep talking forever until one of the developers finally plays the game and says.. hmm you know what we should do... bla bla bla...

Hero gets fixed. Forums don't seem to work.

I definitely support this. Since his other 2 spells are passive this would work perfectly. Q W E R are the main hotkeys for every hero by default and i am really used to them. I often misclick with soulstealer when i need it most.

Devs please make this change.

No mod or dev post in this makes me sad. No reason not to change this to QWE. People saying "just use DFG it's not hard" aren't getting the point. It isn't that it's hard, it's that it's unneeded and different for no reason.
