Actually, the Dota genre is considered a sub-genre of Real-Time Strategy video games.

In other news, the only reason why League of Legends is even included in the category is because Riot Games paid for it to be there. (sponsorship)

Notice the term MOBA is used (a term invented by Riot Games and rejected by the majority) instead of the proper term - Dota (genre).

Just a heads up: No matter the number of votes for HoN, it won't be included in the WCG since it would hurt one of their sponsors - Riot Games.

When the dust settles - LoL will be included. It's one way of solidifying Riot Games' lofty claim that League of Legends is a competitive game. (when we all know it's not made to be one)

Hunter_ was working with Riot Games and League of Legends at that time to help promote the term. He even created a website called mobagamers.com to make it appear legitimate. The term MOBA was created because at that time, Heroes of Newerth was getting all the attention (beta). So to distance itself from being tagged together with Heroes of Newerth, LoL's marketing team came up with the term and employed buzz agents (like Hunter_) to spread it out.

They also optimized massive SEO to the term, "MOBA games" (and everything related to it) so that only League of Legends will come out on top of the Google search rankings.

Massive SEO was already being done for the terms behind the scenes months prior to the time when Steve "Pendragon" Mescon "introduced" the term so that League of Legends would get a head start.

You do realise that this vote is to nominate games to be played at the WCG event next year? LoL is nowhere near ready to be a spectator sport and was proven thus this year.

HoN is actually fun to watch and would make for a good addition, plus it nicely showcases the MOBA genre that we all love.

OFC they have morons... They're just generally better mannered than our morons. In 50 odd games I did play of LoL, nobody but me used chat in the first 40, and in the remaining 10 games, 1 or 2 had the level of communication I see in a typical hon game, the others people wrote very little, and it was just me and 1-2 other guys communicating. I've seen maybe 5 descent and 2-3 good players in those 50 games. Rest were utter trash. I'm talking about zero map awareness, zero situational awareness (should I gather, should I farm, should I gank, should I defend), no tactical knowledge... It's like 10 singleplayer games being simultaneously played out on a single map.

As a newbie, I guess that kind of environment is welcoming, but as someone who played lots of DotA and HoN is quite frustrating.

HoN will probably never get my vote for any RTS game simply to the inordinate amount of bugs that still exist and have existed for so long. Some of which predate to closed beta.

or the always favorite - that guy can attack me over the fissure but I can't attack him back because fissure is trying to force me to run around it.

-Creep pathing issues

-Match Making

-Prioritizing Icon/Cash Shop/Sounds over gameplay

-Inability to introduced new heroes with any semblance of balance (Yes, we know that DotA had imbalanced heroes. We also know that DotA was created, tested, and modified by people on their own time. S2 is a professional gaming company. Most people expect that you're going to introduce new heroes with a much better grasp of balance)

-Lack of any real -new- hero mechanics (Repetitive use of the same mechanic on heroes)

I will give Kudos to S2 for thinking up the marketing campaign for HoN 2.0 to bring people back in just in time to get the cash shop up and milk it before DotA 2 comes out and closes shop on this game.

+ Anyways I personally find 1v1 strategy games a lot more interesting than 5v5... But maybe that's because I can play 1v1 sc somewhat competitevely...(~B-@ICCup@kor/euro time if any know what that means ;o)- I just find 1v1 so much more... strategic + if you lose its YOUR fault and not in any which way your teams so... It's not that I don't enjoy team games, but I just find atleast in strategy games 1v1 too be more competitive...

I voted for HoN. After one of my matches last year at WCG, LoL was being played on the stage. I sat in the large spectator area to watch as I figured a game similar to HoN/DoTA might be entertaining. I ended up missing my next match as I fell asleep watching.
