View Full Version : PSR and Leavers: a suggestion

After suffering from more than my fair share (I feel) of leavers, I came up with this in an attempt to mitigate the PSR hits I take for grouping with leavers so much:
Dynamic PSR awards.
If someone leaves (their assests are redistributed) have the PSR awards for the game adjusted according to the new number of players on each team and their current PSRs. IE, have it adjust mid-game the same way it does when you're in the waiting room.
To prevent abusing this, the game, when it ends, should take in to account the amount of time that passed since the leaver left compared to the total run time of the game.
Example: Say a teammate of mine leaves 10 minutes in to the game.
My PSR is about 1550, and we'll say the match would have given me a change of +15/-15. Now that the teams are 4v5 the award would adjust to (just some random numbers here) +21/-9 if we were still in the waiting area. So the actual adjustment to the PSR awards would be (40 divided by 50, which would be 80%, so 80% of +6/-6) +20/-10 instead of +15/-15. This would be worked out individually for every player in the game at the end.
So this would give large PSR award changes from early leavers, but tiny ones for very late leavers.
P.S. If this is already in place, then I didn't know, and good job!

Doesn't sound like a bad idea. I've taken the same blow on my PSR on several occations and it would be nice to see something like this implemented into the game. :)

Yeh I like this. Ive actually had a game where I ended up playing 2vs5 (we did win) but still i want my 30 points..
It just seems so off that even if u have leavers the rating stays as if it was 5vs5

Very good idea... I've often thought about that also... the "remake" is a good option but if the other team just wants a free win they can easily decline the remake. So if you have to suffer through a game man down then you should lose as much as if you had the amount that you started with. Very good idea and I hope that this does get incorporated. I would enjoy some good 3v5 games with my friends!

There are dozens of other threads about this, and it's still a bad idea. Losing because of a leaver is the same as losing because one of your teammates was feeding all game, picked scout, or otherwise didn't contribute when it was necessary. Adjusting PSR gain/loss during a match only decreases the accuracy of the ratings.

AND the leaver automatically loses the original amount of PSR he would have lost from losing the game! :D

Indeed, leaving in mid game should effect PSR gains, however you need to take in effect many aspects.
The scores in the game, how long the game has lasted.
Else someone could leave the game just at the end and the PSR rewards would differ even though thegame may already be settled, EI one team has 5heroes on lvl 25, the others have 5 heroes on lvl 15. and no towers left. while the 25 team has all base towers left.
leaving in a event souch as this shouldn't effect PSR rewards from the game, it's not likly the low leveled team would make a turnaround and win this.
So there are many things to take into calculation, but the idea of this is great

Team is winning. U and your 3 friends kick the random guy. More psr for you. One of you is really low on psr. You all leave while the game is ending and your friend gets bumped.

again in the example at the op the psr wouldnt alter until the 'redistributed items' thing happens, and if you leave really late the % of time would lower that factor dramatically. the soloer would haveto win with disconnected players giving the opposing team a 5 minute window. although i do see your point, that some people would try to abuse it anyway. solution is to make the people that used their leave allowance also take the full psr loss of ~20 points (or whatever it is), this can only be abused so much before they run out of leave allowance anyway. will it still be abused? yes, but the amount of times would be very infrequent by comparison. the pros outweigh the cons imho
