I was hosting a game and then everything went to hell

Basically the screen filled with all kinds of technical windows talking about bytes and connection stats. I wanted to open the chat window (F6) and it just filled with tech windows that prevented me from doing anything and couldn't be closed.


The tech windows are useful to someone... but you can't make these windows without making it clear how to get out of them. It completely locked me out of HoN and prevented me from doing anything.... ruining a game and wasting the time it took to get it going.



Anyway, this is sorta a general polish issue that HoN has at the moment that needs to be fixed. All these obscure bits of the program need to be dealt with... it's like dealing with some half finished peice of equipment that has sharp edges and cuts you every time you use it. If the analogy held, I'd wear gloves... but it doesn't.


I'd like a list of the interface buttons and at some point for said windows to be made easy to escape from.

To fix that problem or any problems with boxes you don't want, push the esc button, it's that easy.

And if you actually want to see all the stuff, its different F buttons. Cant press anything during that though.

tried that... did nothing

pressed every function key, every number key, tried pretty much everything... I suppose I could have had this window come up and then have a bug on top of it.

That would be my kind of luck with this game... eg bad.

Escape DOES work, you just need to have that window selected. You may have indeed pressed every function key in an attempt to get rid of it. What you NEEDED to do was press the function key and then press escape directly after pressing it. Until they remove these dev tools/stats this is how you deal with it.

Yup, had this happen a while ago with the F7 key. Took me a while to realize I had to hit F7 again to make the data transfer info the active selection, then hit ESC.

I didn't think it was a bug so I went to what looked like the help forum.

In any event, I think I did click on it... but I'm not sure. I'll try that if it happens again. :)

Yeah you can't actually click on it. The only way to "select" it as it were is to press the function key that activated it and then press escape directly after.

Well, a good idea then might be to have these tools disabled by default unless people load HoN with the -debug or -dev flags... that way they don't come up unless you want them.
