Restricting bandwidth for programs

I want to make certain programs (Spotify) to have restricted bandwidth access. Limit the amount of upload/download the program can preform.

Usually I download big files so they require time, but I don't need programs to double the time it takes. Spotify, is based on P2P technology. So that popular tracks are down in an instant, that's good but when I want to download something else I need the bandwidth to be available for the download.

I guess I just could turn Spotify off. But I use it as my main music player so I'm not too happy about that. So I'm thinking maybe there's a program that can restrict the amount of bandwidth Spotify uses. So I can still use it but it just keeps the upload enough to say "I'm still here", and doesn't log me out.

I tried Google but I can't really find what I'm searching for. So I'm asking you guys. Is there a feature in Windows 7 that allows you to control how much bandwidth a program uses preferebly how much upload/download load there will be.

Or if there's a program that does the same thing.

If I find it I will post it here.

Since you asked, in most cases beginning a sentence with "and", "or", or "but" is grammatically incorrect. This is because these words indicate that you are adding to a thought previously expressed, which in English you cannot do unless it is within the same sentence.


As for your problem, doesn't Spotify have a feature like "pause all downloads/uploads"? You should be able to pause everything when you need the bandwidth for gaming or whatever.

Spotify doesn't really say it's downloading/uploading anything. It's simply a music player with alot of tunes online, they download pretty much instantly and you can play them before they're done. So the avarage user wouldn't really be aware of how they can get all that music. Works like magic. There's a feature. It's called offline mode. Costs 7.28USD or 14.71USD 49SEK or 99SEK). (depending on if you want iphone/mobile phone support or not)

Just to make this price to make sense to you. You do get more stuff than just the offline mode feature. You get higher quality music, no ads, offline-mode and unlimited music (duh, got that already).

It's not a bad price. But I dare not buy it because I know it will add up.

I'm pretty sure TCPview can record how much bandwidth a particular program is using, however, as I'm not using windows right now I can't check.

The UK ones always seem slow for me, especially when I can max out my down speed with torrents(400-500Kb/s :scou:). My Swedish friend pays for his usenet and gets like 50Mbit, so maybe you just have to live in a first world country.

you dont have to get a UK one, an internet friend has one from xsnews and it allows account sharing. eweka also allowed account sharing but im not sure if either of these take paypal. giganews is meant to be the fastest/best but its more expensive and you cant account share

i got that new BT Infinity so ive got 37.5mbps down. 2.5mb/s is the fastest ive got with 2 connections open, i think thats the fastest this account can do but you can get faster ones

Haven't heard of any of the ones you've suggested before, but they all look pretty good. I get 2mbps for most of the time here, but 30mbit at the house I'm moving into in a few weeks, so I'll try the xsnews free trial when I get there.

I don't want to change from spotify because for me it's 100% lag free. And it got all the music I want.

Thing about Spotify is that i don't have to tell it to download -.-
It just does, I have used Frostwire n bittorrent and all that stuff since I was 9. (Frostwire came later)
I use Spotify for music because it's more convenient. In combo with any youtube->Mp3 software it's perfect.
