View Full Version : The Most Epic Game Ever: GR TS2 Finals: LOAD vs Empr Game 4

The fourth game between LOAD and Empr (http://www.gamereplays.org/community/index.php?showtopic=665625) of the Grand Finals of the $2,000 Tourney Season 2 Invitational (http://www.gamereplays.org/heroesofnewerth/portals.php?show=news&news_id=626109) is the most epic game I have ever watched. So many great and ballsy moves, so many times you will stay speechless, and all that was going on constantly for 80 minutes, and you still won't want it to stop. The game is that great.
It was commentated by our lovely duo smock & onaprayer, and the strategical insight was done by one and only Freshpro.
Watch the gamecast of this awesome game (http://www.gamereplays.org/community/index.php?showtopic=665625).

Well you all probably watched breaky's cast where he was bored to hell and didn't even notice the awesome and crazy moves by Empr in teams fights, where they managed to defend with a token disadvantage 3 times, and when it looked all lost uniQFazer managed to pull of a perfect Tempest ult and win the team fight. It was a very long game, but a very close and intense game to look at. The game was so close that the deaths difference between the teams was only 1 death, and that is close for a 80min game.

FAAAAAAAAAAAZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRR RRRRRRRRR as Fresh put it. That clutch meteor into 5 person ult was mind blowing. Have to agree with Fresh on this being most entertaining 60+ minute game in a long time. It wasn't the turtling that was interesting but every team fight was total clutch play. Probably the best since MSI v KDE game 2 at Dreamhack.
And I must agree, I watched it Live and then as I'd enjoyed it so much decided to check out the HoNcast one too. The casters being super bored got, surprise, surprise, super boring. So I ended up stopping watching.
Up-frontism: Is a GR staff member so judge that how you will (except I make pictures so it's hardly a showing of an inherent casting bias. I've actually also made the Honcast Community Top 10 icon too so I guess that could also make me bias that way)

Okay
GR casters are horrible
I just watched p3 and about 1 minute in WS dies to a tower, one caster proceeds to ask the other what happened
"WS got slowed by glacius and it was a very very painful death."
"oh lolz i did not see that coming"
Very painful death?
eh? you'd leave people wondering what happened if the (good) cameraman snoopy didn't catch that
EDIT: they're also boring

You must be a stickler for boring long games. I watched MSI vs KDe live at Dreamhack and people were literally getting up and leaving partway through it. Games with a significant amount of money on the line breed this type of **** were no one wants to play aggressively or take chances unless it's a do or die situation. This game was very similar. So many opportunities missed because of overly passive play from both sides at times. I can name at least 5 games that I would consider to be "more epic" 3 of which happened at Dreamhack alone.

Less of a stickler and more a fan of tight do or die action. All heroes are maxed out, everyone has their full set of items and it's truly about which team can control their heroes better. LOAD clumped up for half a second in that first team fight and Fazer took advantage. It's far more skill based than 'I last hitted better than you in lane phase. I win.' Thats why I enjoy it.
edit: Yes I know Tempest could do that at level 6 10 minutes in just as much but it has nowhere near the impact than it does late game. Every punishable mistake matters that much more. Clutch, clutch and more clutch. I like it.

lmao thread
even though I really dislike how the self proclaimed professional shoutcaster breakycpk ended up handling the casting of that game, I really agree with his/henryDs points.
watching people farm 9 minutes without a herokill to get kongor, engage a teamfight, lose the teamfight with token and bananas and then wait another 9 minutes to redo the same strategy again is surely epic, if your brain has a major malfunction

Because LOAD would just rebuy after every lost fight.
Especially the last teamfight which was a 5-0 genocide for Empire resulting in a 5 man buyback from LOADED.
They get outplayed a teamfight, all buyback and then win the game after the enemy team is low on health and mana.
Exciting? No

But you have to agree Empr did pull of some great plays in there.
What I don't understand is how did Load have that much money, to buy back every time and Empr didn't?

loaded had the whole map for themselves because empr figured turtling and relying on the 20g/creep income from the middle lane would be better

Err Exciting YES! If a team is THAT far in front that the WHOLE team including support can afford buy backs, and get genocided with a token. That is some VERY good play on the losing (empr) teams part. Its like loaded got surprised buttsechs a few times and enjoyed it on their way to the candy store. (insert chu smiley pick here)
breaky's cast was tired he usually is pretty good but have to agree not his finest work and like in a classroom, if a teacher isnt interested in the subject they teach then 99% of the class isnt gonna be interested. inb4 omg classroom example.

If you were watching the livestream you would realise that it was a really exciting intense game (at least for majority of viewers). IRC was going crazy.
If however, you watched it on honcast, then watched the GR one, or simply watched it already knowing the result, then yes you would be like huhwtf?
That's basically it. And its purely understandable. As with real sports, its much better when it's live, you don't know the results, and the casters are actually enthusiastic (if a bit less refined).
Normally I prefer honcast over GR casts but this is certainly an exception.
Breaky never notice anything even when he's well awake. He is still better than anyone at GR unfortunately.

Guys there is only one thing that can be said about this game
"Hellbringer has a Frostburn"
BreakyCPK
09-09-2010, 06:20 PM
I will copy/paste what I said in my comment section about this game...
"Ok guys, you have to understand something.... Being a replay cast we knew the length of the game going into it, and although I try my very best every time going into a replay cast I do check how long it to get an idea of how long the cast will be. With that said, because of discussions going on in forums and what not from the day before, I had already knew who won which is another thing I do stay away from for the majority but I can't promise I wont know the results.
After casting contect myself for 9 hours on Sunday and then doing already another 2 hours before this match on Monday, I personally was a little worn out from casting so much, but I knew I couldn't just break before we did game 4 as the community would have *****ed and moaned.
So we did it knowing what to expect, and yes that def did show at later points in the game and if we had casted this game straight up live I am sure the attitude might have been a little different. But at the same time, I have casted long games in the past as well both replays and live and compared to those I still am a fan at suggesting that this really wasn't an "epic" game with soooo much to talk about.... there wasn't.
This was simply a matter of Empr turtling for 30 minutes or so while MSI just continued to farm for buy back money and rinse and repeat... sure Empr finally made a counter-push and then excitement did pick up, which we did react too.. But there def was a 30 min period in that game where it was one of the most dull games I have ever experienced, so I am sorry if you were dissapointed in this cast but when you take everything into consideration I hope you at least understand our side."

You're an idiot. Some of the best games I ever watched in competitive HoN (tSm vs LOAD anybody??) were from GR s1. Just because people don't find this match to be as "epic" as some people are trying to make it out to be, doesn't have anything to do with the fact it was part of the GameReplays tournament. Anyone who thinks so is an idiot..like you.

I watched the game from Holy's pov and It was EXTREMELY annoying that she kept the same hero targeted for very long time and that the stat window was closed the entire game.
Besides that i must say that Freshpros constant attempt at flirting or being funny coupled with the girl's laughter at him made the game very annoying to watch.

seems it really bothers you... being the inferior coverage-site and all.
as stated, it was a turtling game. Some people like to watch them because its huge fights with a lot on the line. Some people hate them because of the 9 minutes without herokills and that it often takes 3 or more teamfights to break the defenders. But in most cases, its just waiting for the inevitable.
I watched it as a replay, so no comment on the casters here...

I don't know how anyone can feel anything other than pure frustration (well, and boredom) from watching Game 4. I wanted to slap the entire team Loaded in the face for playing so stupidly.
Tommy summed it up nicely here:
seriously it was just hard to watch. half way through valk gets the bottom rax down to sub 200hp alone WITH A TOKEN and instead of her or hell any of the damned hellbourne team simply attacking it they all run in 1by1 into a tempest ult.

And he didn't even mention the second time around when they literally got the rax down to ~60hp and instead of finishing it off, they dive past the rax into a Tempest ult... just like they did 15 minutes earlier.

Match is pretty nice, but casters are kinda bad. It's like 5 of them and they're constantly making stupid personal jokes and stuff, not paying attention to the game itself. I think that 1 main caster + 1 supporting is more then enough.
