Yes, this has been said before. Just started testing, I think S2 need to be reminded again.
The DotA heroes that you have copied over are great. They are fun, look awesome, they have character, and they are all of those characters that you love to have during an -apem or -ar.
The problem is that the game is now lacking some of the most important support/team heroes that DotA did so well. We have a great roster of "LoL Juggernaught is fun" style heroes, but none of those "Well, we need him on our team".
We have Earthshaker, but we're missing Sand King, Tidehunter and Beastmaster.
We have Abaddon but we're missng Leoric.
We have Scout, Dark Lady, but we're missing Sniper and PA.
We got Lina and Rylai, but we don't have Lich, Pugna or Lion.
We're missing those characters which can really make a difference in terms of team play and support, not just in the "o kek I lasthitted 1909 heroes", but those who force people to play together, as a team, to win.
We have a problem, where is one team has Earthshaker, there is nothing like him in the game, whereas in DotA his stun abilities are at least mirrored by 3-4 other heroes. This is what makes DotA so tactically brilliant for the mere character picking stages.
I'd like to add a caveat here, and say I love HoN, it's awesome, but if I were S2, I'd have implemented every single DotA Hero...
Except Alchemist. Noone likes Alchemist.
Edit: I thought I'd reiterate somewhat.
When playing in league/pickup, as part of a 5-man, SD mode game, one of the most important things is team selection.
You take 1 carry, unless you have two of the top carry heroes in game and are confident you can do it.
You need heroes that will be strong in early, to allow your carries to farm in safety. You also need those heroes who support the whole team, turn up when you need them with a timely fissure, stun, epicentre or the like.
When the draft comes up, you'll often see one team has Sand King and another stunner open to them. In DotA, that's not a problem. Because where one team has Sand King and Earth Shaker, the other has Slardar and Tidehunter, Vengeful Spirit, Lion.. the list goes on.
In HoN, if one team has Earthshaker.... you have... errr.. Kraken?
Similarity in heroes is not neccessarily a bad thing. For a game to have tactical difficulty, it should be about when and where to use your abilities, not who got Earthshaker in their SD.
