Podcasts for Honcast - @Honcast

I just had a general suggestion about Honcasts...

Since there is clear audio that could be pulled from the Honcasts, I was wondering if you guys could create podcasts for the HoN Shoutcasts you guys do?

Basically I find myself clicking on the mini-map at least 5 times per Shoutcast, because I would like to be able to view the map on my own, but still listen to the dialogue. I think podcasts would be a good way of doing this, because then I could watch the match replay, still hear the dialogue from the Shotcast, and freely navigate the replay.

I understand I can already do this via playing the Shoutcast stream in the background, but in reality, I'd probably play the podcast on my iPod so I wouldn't have to alt+tab everytime I wanted a rewind on the dialogue.

Never said it wasn't going to happen. I have plans to add it at some point, but not until its available for our entire back catalog. Same goes for multibitrate.

It will also be on the mobile version of the site, if your bandwidth is too low to stream video.

So to actually answer the original question (silly people), that won't happen for awhile at least.

The reason behind it is that having a pure audio download does not result in any ad revenue at all and thus relegates it rather far down our list of things to do. Basically, we need some kind of cash flow to continue doing the things we do. :-D

Like Brandon said, it'll get done at some point but it probably won't be the most recent casts, if I recall correctly.

No it'll be for all casts, spitting out the mp3 file is part of the automated workflow in the conversion app. I'm more then likely not going to put a simple audio download link though. Most likely it'll just be on a separate page, with its own player, with like a 10 second countdown on the beginning so people can sync with replays

Don't kid yourself, GR makes money ;) Costs money to run a large website. It just costs more to deliver your own video. So yes we want to keep people on our site, understandable, it costs us a fair chunk of change each month to deliver honcast to the masses, we of course want to continue delivering.

Umm, why do we need a special audio file for watching the replay with commentary on the background? Cant we just turn on the cast and watch the replay in the game?

Only thing needed might be a ten second sync time in the beginning, am i right?

Main reason i'm separating audio from video is for mobile users with poor internet.

so i can listen to the cast on my ipod whenever i want, and manipulate the audio files, break them up, etc. save my favorite moments, like jewicide, and compile them into a greatest casting moments or something.

also, i would like to be able to play the audio file through a decent system, other than my laptop speakers, and that would be much easier via an audio file.
