View Full Version : Is the tower´s behaviour different from DotA?

I´ve noticed that sometimes when i go near an enemy tower and there are allied creeps nearby and i do nothing but walk the tower starts attacking me. That´s a weird behaviour which doesn´t happen at DotA.
So i have some questions:

-Is this intended?
-Will they add the same behaviour as DotA´s towers?
-What is the exact AI behaviour of the towers? (I.E. attack the nearest enemy unit except an enemy hero attacks or perform action upon an allied hero).

As a final note, i don´t think that being different from DotA is bad, but i prefer a well known behaviour than a new one. At least until i get totally used to the new one.

No one will read it there ;_; but thanks for not deleting it.

I get the same feeling. Sometimes. (Not every time ) The tower target creeps which attacked the tower. Then I went in. And the tower start to attack my hero :/

Someone told me that the tower start attacking you, when an enemey hero comes in "range". But this is not everytime true.... Sometimes I dont understand the tower AI oO

Yes anyone know what the Hon tower behaviour is?

I know any target attacking the tower will get priority over targets attack nearby creeps. Also, the tower changes target very quickly. So if all your creeps move on to the enemy creeps, and you're still targeting the tower, it will immediately aim you.

I think this is accurate:
There are two groups of units for the tower.
Units within range who have been given the command to attack the tower or an allies hero. [Top Priority]
Units within range that have not. [Bottom Priority]

Out of each group, it will always attack the unit that is closest to it.

But i didn´t attack anything, i just walked around :(
It confuses me.

the tower behavior is very much different, the strange (and extremely fast) change to attacking heroes for no other reason than moving into the range of the tower is one thing.
There is also the fact that in dota the tower allways wants to lasthit the creeps with the lowest hp left in range, unless some hero tries to attack you within range of the tower, but in HoN sometimes the tower just change target with 1 hit left on a creep.
This may be due to the fact that some other creep tried to attack your hero, and the tower reacts like it would if a hero attacked your hero in dota.
But the towers just really feels REALLY random

honestly the tower ai seems random to me. it targets whoever it feels like targetting

Had cases where 2 heroes where whacking at me within tower range and the stupid AI would still fire at creeps. Feels like tower always do the opposite of what we want it to.

lol

Btw, I think aggro should be given not only when you CLICK an enemy hero or start auto attacking it, but when any kind of DoT from given source start acting on your hero. This would prevent Swiftblade spin from not attracting any aggro from towers at all.

It is funny, because I've had towers switch targets to last hit hero kills, and my creep kills. Other times it will change from that 10 hp catapult to the 400hp treant. Weird o.0

I've had towers switch from last-hit hero kills to hitting a creep more often than the other way around :/

So end result = No one know, how the tower works. Or the AI is broken oO

Generally, the tower's targeting SEEMS to follow DotA, however, it also feels buggy as **** - where it will switch from one creep to another creep, seemingly at random. Towers are not supposed to re-acquire a target until that target dies or moves out of range UNLESS a enemy hero within' range of the tower acquires an allied hero.

Towers should not re-target from creep to creep for any reason - EVER.

Basically, it still feels buggy as hell, yes.

Buggy and random... Who could dispel our doubts about tower´s AI mechanics?

i think the tower ai is based on which treant talked about the towers mother last.

or maybe which enemy unit smelled the worst.

I have died on at least 3 occasions when in a low-HP battle because my tower would suddenly stop hitting the enemy hero and instead hit creeps, allowing my oppenent to kill me and then escape on a sliver of health. It's very frustrating that this happens, and I would like to see tower behaviour made a bit more reliable and predictable.

The tower AI is very different from dota. I have seen instances where towers would switch from attacking an enemy hero who was chasing an ally to attacking creeps who got close to the tower.

/signs for towers being updated to have a more reliable behaviour.

Being last hit by a tower cos it suddenly switched target is lol
