Well, i just played a few games with arachna and other heroes, and everytime i put ulti on an enemy hero and didnt finish him completely (30-70hp left) i didnt even get an assist.
my question is:
are there special mechanics behind the assist counter?
do i have to do a certain % of damage? i put them from full hp to about 10% so i expected a kill assists each and every time.
i saw others do less damage getting assists.
Is it only me? Or is it possible assists dont get counted sometimes?
thanks

I have never noticed this issue, it's worth taking a closer look into though because that would be annoying if it does happen.

well, if i knew how i could somehow prove / track it?
its hard to prove, normally others just go "uhm sure, l2play and do some dmg..."
i know it happened at least 3 times in 1on1s vs a hero with full hp, thou.

It seems that certain skills don't act like an attack, and therefore won't register an assist. I assume that because you don't actually do any damage to the person with Arachna's ult, that you don't get the assist. Any offensive spell in the game should give you an assist by definition, but it doesn't work that way right now.
I can name countless times that I should have gotten an assist, but don't. The two most common examples being when Legion/Hellbourne gets a kill it is classified as unassisted, and Tempest's ult does not grant you assists by itself (which is complete bullshit.)
I can name two or more instances per game, usually, where this happens... take this example! Last game I played I was Voodoo Jester. One person was killed by Hellbourne (unassisted) and I got no assist for a cask+cursed ground I cast.

Examples listed do give you assists. They do not say you got one in game chat, though. Check the scores, your assists go up.
All of Nymphs spells are assist bugged though :|

You say it's a 1v1, yet you fail to completely kill the hero. How does it die?

Well that isn't much of an example, as any killing blow by Legion/Hellbbourne that has 2 or more 'assisters' (ie 2 allies recently hit the dieing unit) no assist will be displayed on screen.

I checked my assists, chief. It's hard to miss an uncounted assist early game when you only have one assist.

May I bump this thread instead of creating a new one?
Already done though :p
What exactly contributes to assists? There seems to be a slight discrepancy between skills that count as assists and those that don't.
For example Sand Wraith's Ulti doesn't net you an assist, despite dealing damage.
Behemoth's Fissure doesn't net you an assist, despite dealing damage.
And now for the funny stuff: Dark Lady's ulti DOES net you an assist, despite not dealing damage at all.
Are all skills going to get changed to create a more persistent feeling?
Did you find more skills that behave oddly when it comes to assists?

There are so many situations where you don't get an assist. I'm pretty sure Legion is one of the worst heroes for not receiving any. I would like this fixed, but it's not a huge issue atm, and S2 will surely get on top of it when they can be bothered.

I wouldn't mind it, if it were merely for the stats, but as you get gold for assisting it may be affecting the highly valued "competive play" in a bad way
Not that I'm one of those players, mind you ^^

The Assist number has no effect on the game, only on your stats.

Your Ultimate (Spiderling) is considered a gadget and any damage it does, does not count to assists because you are not doing damage.
You would have got an assist (to please your stats...) if you would have hit him/her with one auto attack.
Who Ultis then runs as Arachna any way?

Assists are strange. You could studder someone causing your team to kill him but still not get an assist when you are the sole reason for the kill. Some things are just hard to do without someone watching every game.

Wrong, they give you money for assists.

No they don't. They're only there to primarily show that people who don't get the last-hit on someone did something to contribute to that kill. Gold is acquired from being within 1000 AoE of the dying hero.
